This guy is pretty good at doing an interview

He didn't even mention Denver's high altitude. If he's had respiratory failure AND asthma of course he's gonna be sucking wind.

He says he was gonna rest a little because it was a 5 min round? There were no rounds. No time limit at all.
@joe56984
@joe56984 3 года назад
UFC 1 had 5 minute rounds, with one minute rest between rounds. However none of the fights lasted more than one round. I had to look it up, but he is correct about that.

@joseph deutsch Shamrock did not have shoes. He claims they told him at the last minute that he wasn't allowed to wear them. He complains about it to this day.

@@joe56984 correct. 5 min per round. no round limit. Close to the end of his fight you can see a timer beeing displayed in the corner counter like 50 seconds down.

Seems like a nice guy, but also sounds like a lot of excuses. I can't tell how much is real, but regardless, respect for stepping up in an untried arena in American combat sports.

Other than Art Jimmerson and Teila Tuli this guy was the worst fighter in the tournament, no doubt he was a tough guy though.

lol at the comment "and 15 guys jumped on me" on a basketball court.

I like this interview a lot. Frazier is a natural storyteller. I'd listen to him talk about his fights any day. ...But there is no way that Zane fought "15 tough guys" at once. That claim *might* be believable coming from someone like Bas Rutten, but Frazier struggles badly enough when faced with a single opponent.

Not going to lie I didn't think much of him after he got defeated by that big guy but after hearing the reasoning and that he pretty much had asthma attack at the middle of the fight then maybe he could have won after all he was doing pretty good but what's even more respecting is that even though his lungs are giving out in the middle of the fight he refused to tap or even ask for a tile through and even got mad when his corner threw the fight this man was on the verge of death and yet he still wanted to continue even when he was getting stomped on in his lungs are giving out the only thing on his mind was to get up and keep fighting he may have lost the battle but he is a true warrior he deserves respect 💯

7:14 Ah.... So someone else was asking the same questions i was. Where was mike tyson and alekander karelin?! i already know why erick paulson was screwed out of not being there! Karelin would have won had he been there! If not him, mike tyson!
@cisco1425
@cisco1425 3 года назад
I still think the right grappler beats Tyson in there. Karelin though, I'm not sure.
@fjbxrplover
@fjbxrplover 2 года назад
Erick Paulson screwed out? How do you figure? He would have gotten smoked anyway. He was way too inexperienced then. As far as Tyson or Karelin, Tyson was making real money as well as Karelin. Fighting was substandard but major props for getting into the event.
@kevthegoat8774
@kevthegoat8774 Год назад
Paulson got whooped by boxer/kickboxer James Warring in a NHB tournament. Art Davie contacted Karelin's team about him fighting and he said they laughed and told him he didn't have enough money to pay for Karelin. No elite boxer had the balls to fight in UFC. Royce Gracie would have likely tapped Tyson as would have Shamrock. Gerard Gordeau and Patrick Smith would have presented an interesting fight for Tyson too with their kicking ability and Smith had some very basic knowledge of grappling.

@@kevthegoat8774 i think royce would have gotten knocked out trying to bull rush in! Had sakuraba veen a better boxer, he would have ko graciea left and right, with that head down-run in foolishness they all do!

The Karate guys, Kung Fu guys, Boxers, Kickboxers were the worst in the early UFC beginnings. They didn't want the notch fighters of the day.
@kevthegoat8774
@kevthegoat8774 Год назад
Patrick Smith did decent for a Karate/Taekwondo guy, it was the grapplers that gave him problems though. Also comparing them to fighters of today is silly as it wasn't MMA back then as MMA wasn't really a thing then.

The Gracie’s invited Alexander Karelin and Evander Holyfield along with Leon spinks. These guys were the elite in their field but they declined do yes, the Gracie’s tried to get the best but the best didn’t accept the challenge

If you can find the actual rule book for UFC 1, the fights were actually scheduled for five, five minute rounds. Just none of them actually lasted that long. So that part is true.

I've been going back and hearing things from each persons perspective. It's quite interesting. Many of them still can't believe that a little 175 pound dude won all the first UFCs. Much respect to this guy though. You have to be a warrior to step in to that cage and he did it when very few people were stepping up.
@peterpaul9375

but all the other fighters also give excuses. pat Smith said his hand was broken when he fought Royce. gerard gordeau said his hand was broken when he fought Royce. shamrock said 3 days before first ufc he was in japan. the long trip to usa "sapped his energy". and Royce's gi was "used as a weapin against me." the day before ken was told by the ufc he could not use his shoes. he used that as an excuse. excuses excuses excuses
