Okay, so first I thought I’ll just leave all the comments as is and not reply to every bad thing that will come my way, because obviously when I started this project I knew there’s going to be a lot of people that will bash this whole idea. That being said, I really do enjoy everything about African languages and the cultural journey has just been amazing. I’ve learned so much and met so many wonderful and beautiful people, that I just can’t give up now. Vulindlela was the very first song that I recorded in an African language. And I worked with so many people on the pronunciation and mostly I found that all the ladies accents was different so the same word would sound different if you have 8 different people say it. I might not have done it perfectly, but at least I am trying and I really did not jump into the studio and sang what I thought was correct. I am working very hard on saying everything correctly because the last thing I wanted to do was come over disrespectful. And then yes, I went to Stellenberg and I took isiXhosa in primary school and high school. That was where my love for languages start. For someone that did not grow up with these languages (and now I mean all the languages that I’m currently singing in Xhosa, Shona, Zulu and Sotho ) its very hard to speak the language fluently. Just as someone that grew up with no Afrikaans in their house would probably not understand a word that I say because I speak very fast and in a very flat Capetonian accent. But I do respect all the opinions and comment and I really do try my best to learn the languages because Im singing in so many ,so which one do I learn first, and it the end it’s about the bigger picture and to make a difference and show people that music can bring people together. But as I said I do understand if you don’t like it and this is an open platform to express what you feel , I know from my side I’m doing this with a pure heart and I wish I could have spoken all 11 African languages as well and fast as I speak Afrikaans. It would have sure made Life a lot easier. Lots of love and gratefulness to those who believe in me and who spends time with me trying to perfect my pronunciation and having fun with me and laughing with me when I really do struggle with the words and actually bash myself . But so I am laughing with all my African friends that’s now learning Afrikaans for the first time. Not one of us is perfect but the people that know me and know my heart respects that I am trying to sing their language even if I still make mistakes Practice makes perfect they say xxx
