It's sad that these guys never got the recognition they deserve for starting a revolution of new sound. I never heard any band quite like Zao when I was shown them back around 2001-ish

Saw them when I was 18. August Burns Red was brand new and opened the show. It went ABR, Spoken, Zao and Demon Hunter. A night I'll never forget

This was a fantastic find in 2024. Saw Zao numerous times back in late 90’s. Still sounds as tight as ever.

Zao always delivers a beastly performance. Dan’s monstrous vocals, Russ’ and Scott’s thunderous riffs, Jeff’s and Martin’s intense rhythm section, they’re like a beautiful machine. I’m looking forward for their live album. 🤘🏾

You guys have been a favorite of mine since Liberate dropped in '99 and a roommate told me to listen and id love it. Kick ass live too. Glad to see Russ still being weird. He drooled on me at a show in Baltimore.

Didn't get a chance to finally see them until early 2000s with Misery Signals and Every Time I Die. About 1,000 of us scene kids showed up in the Queen City and it just went absolutely mental. One of the best shows I ever attended even after all these years! Who would have thought the mighty Zao would still sound this great and last this long?! Terribly terribly underappreciated!

I remember an interview with Jesse back in 2001/2 saying you guys coulsnt even post or make a live album because the record lable was so tight on them owning the songs and being in control of them.. couldnt even post your own songs in the background of a video from thr bands page.. i think he said something weird like snowboarding.. thats at least how i remember it. So i was always wishing to see older classics done in a more natural live setting oitside of cellphone footage. Until thr church stream that was always just a pioedream. I feel like i waited 20 yrs. I wonder if the band has always waited the oppertunity or just thr cards happened to land right when they did think it was a good idea. Eitherway this is great. Zao is such a legendary band, cult classics.. and deserved a live/ set list / best of release. It shows off the songs are able to be played live and not just studio magic , shows they "still got it" and brings a new way to enjoy older songs as well as some newer ones. I remember ststing up all night to watch the church stream 2 times in a row after working a 12 hr shift. As a ling time fan it is good to see Scott and Russ together and Marty has come a long way since Fear. I remember meeting him in NJ in 2004 when he was the van driver or something.. zao opened for God Forbid i think when Josh was filling in on vocals. Glad to see Dan is still the voice of Zao even with the 2 breaks he took early and mid 2000s. Now i say, Jeff is doing Jesse's parts justice! And he stands on his own talents and shines on the newer music while keeping a "zao feel". I remember him joking on the web he wasnt even the 3rd best drummer in thr band (dan and russ drum, and jesse was the og drummer). But Jeff is amazing and he has helped Zao to continue being Zao. I was sceptical many many years ago, but that was just fear of change. Zao always has and will be an amazing band!

I was wondering if this would ever drop, stoked! Was blown away when I streamed it 🤘🏻 Zao along with Converge was the first metalcore band I had ever heard in middle school which led to me to traditional HC and extreme metal. I discovered Zao through Christian rapper Dirt via a Cornerstone interview. I owe a lot to this band as a musician and person.
