Zapotec - GameNight! Se9 Ep41 - How to Play and Playthrough 

Wife and I have the game set up on the table tonight. Decided to watch the playthrough to confirm our understanding of the rules. Thanks.

I love watching you guys play games and hope the series continue on for many more seasons! I know you always try to highlight a different game each show but I would watch all of you just playing whatever games or games that you guys might just enjoy even if it a repeat of a game you have shown before. Superb filming, sound, and editing of both...very professionally done. Lastly, some of the best game tutoring I have seen online.

Zapotec... I was born and raised in Mexico. I lived for many years in Oaxaca, where Zapotec is spoken, as well as many other Mayan-derived languages. I always get excited when I see a board game with an indigenous or Mexican culture theme, like "Teotihuacán", "Quetzal", or "Coatl"... so thank you very much for this. P. S: The accent in "Ocotlán" falls in the "a"... you have to stress it. (o-co-TLÁN). Aaron said "Mitla" and "Etla" correctly.

Lincoln, you mentioned 3 movies that we love here in our home. Bedazzled, Groundhog Day, and Multiplicity. All movies we quote from regularly. This game playthrough, resulted in my purchase of the game, so Thank you!

Quick note that you don't need to spend gold for rituals if there are no other player tokens there. You only pay gold if other players tokens got there first. Great stream.

Lovely to see some 3 player goodness. Enjoyed the video though I don’t think this game clicked for me - real lesson in why Teotihuacan board is more washed out as this is busy - I’m pleased it wasn’t just my eyes based on the discussion at the end! 😅

This game looks really neat, but I wished for 1-2 more rounds, but there would be no place on player boards for more buildings - maybe then you could take the other actions Probably need to build carful and choose buildings for their ressources they will give you - now I feel I want to try different strategies XD

did you get a new camera? Right from the intro, it looked super crisp, clear and bright...not that it wasn't good before, but it really popped!

What a great video! As always you guys showed it off at its very best, but then you said it was difficult to read cards, etc. That's a real shame as my eyesight's nothing to write home about (as we say in Northern Ireland).

At around 52:40 Niki is buying a cornfield with the resources for a village, isn't she? Or did I misunderstand the rules?

A nice game with very clever mechanics. But I agree the colours and shades are confusing and difficult to see.

1:15:30 aaron should have paid 2 gold to put his disk on the card where lincon already was. You pay extra gold for each disk there is from other players. Page 12 in the rulebook under ritual action.

Game looks pretty cool! Quite liked the pace of It, but maybe It has more mechanics than It needs for How long the game takes?

53:00 should of got 4 points not 2, she should have 10 total score at this time

I know its sort of the point of the game and other mentions below but this looks like it needs 6 turns to get the score up and the higher level stuff - I wonder if this was tested by the game makers and decided it made it too easy to score, scoring goes up to 100 but looks hard to get anywhere near that

I'm not going to criticize the game mechanics...people love their Euros; and as much as I want to criticize the square chits that are straight out of mid-1980's game design...I'll just leave it at that; but is it against the rules to make a game look pretty? The tan/brown main board, the tan/brown personal boards, a color scheme that blends salsa red plains, slate gray hills, and mottled green forests none of which I would describe as pretty looking on the board...I really don't get it, very abstract design elements that don't look natural. It's like they are intentionally making their game look bland and unappealing...when MOST games being produced in the 20-teens & 20's just pop on the table. Utilize a little more art (yes I notice the three statues, the SOLE pieces of art on the entire playing surface), maybe a little more graphic design...something...it just looks old, like a game that came out 20+ years ago. That's my big critique. The pyramids are nice, the extra bit of plastic in towns seem nice, I just wish the board & the chits were more modern. Resource swapping Euros aren't really my type of game to begin with...so it's not a game that really draws me in anyway...but with so many more artistically appealing Euros out there, I really don't see this one flying off the shelves. Just my two cents.
