Looks like this is the best ZPZ band Dweezil has put together. Quite amazing if you ask me. I went to the concert. It was WOW! Certain sound elements changed and they sound dinkier, but other than the concert was amazing. What Frank had was a Fat, Full, Big Band Sound. The sound does not live up to the integrity, but the musicians have got it.
this song is great. zappa wrote classical music to be played on rock instruments which is why it is the best shit out there for a rock player to learn or listen to. I can't believe that this song was never recorded in studio. It is perfect. I can't find one thing about this song that I would ever change. Zappa Amazes me every time I try to learn one of his song or even if I'm just listening
Just F'n amazing. My all time favorite Zappa tune. Sounds as good as the Roxy album. F all you ZPZ naysayers. I'm going to see them for the second time next month. Can't wait.
i saw them play this song live when they came to charleston, i got footage of the show on my page if you guys want to check it out, the quality is poor because of my camera, so sorry about that
Frank would have liked this band a lot .......... of course he also would have made them practice together 8-9 hours every day until they were basically telepathic of eachother . I like this because you can see how much of a good time theyre having playing it ......... its technically a very "fun" piece to play .
frank and the mothers were a genre all there own never to this day appreciated by the masses but who cares most peoples taste is in there mouth look at whats popular
If you watch the bonus part of the DVD Dweezil says he doesn't want to touch songs that were purely of Frank's personality. Like the more comedic songs.... And there are 2 people in this band from Frank's band.... Play 8 bars of this song and then talk shit.
@TheVinceson Ofc John Lennon is the epitome of musical genius. Hehe. Seriously, listen to some WPLJ (a Zappa song) and chill, then try and come telling me that it's just "going through the motions." Now I agree that this performance has a tad less passion put into it than what we hear with Zappa's band, but Highly Arranged Music=/=No Soul.
@dazamaru So basically you want him to be fake and put on an act of being as much like Frank as possible? I assume you'll want him to grow a moustache as well?
@dazamaru Well. Clinical is what you are going to get from a classical composer who has died and who's works are still being played. (And yes, I consider Zappa a classic in his own right) I bet Chopin would absolutely CRINGE at the way his piano pieces are played by today's students of academical piano studies for this very reason.
'Roxy' -- and 'Echidna's Arf,' especially -- is a sloppy recording, by Zappa's standards. I'm sure he knew that. This band probably would've pleased him quite a bit. They don't have the groove or maturity to really nail 'Village of the Sun' but their technicality lets them roll right through 'Echidna's Arf,' which comes out flawless.
@dazamaru Sorry to say, Frank is dead. Get over it. ZPZ is THE BEST you'll see anywhere. They faithfully recreate Frank's music in every aspect. Consider the alternative; No one carrying on the tradition. Project Object doesn't tour as extensively as ZPZ.
While your point of calling Beethoven an amateur automatically voids any credibility of your claim, I should point out that spontaneity does not determine the level of musical ability a composer has. Also, that Frank Zappa is not under-rated; many universities offer courses analyzing his music in detail. Your claim must be in response to the general public, 80% of who listen to nothing but what is on the radio.
