What if you could have a central point that could inform you of:
Your household consumption of electricity
Electricity drawn from the grid.
Electricity supplied to the grid.
Ev charging history
Electric consumption of your Water Heater
Your Solar Power Generation.
That's the Zappi 2 EV charger!
You get much much more than you may think !

Have you considered adding an Eddi solar diverter to heat your hotwater tank from the excess generation. My Eddi was fitted this week and joined my Zappi and my Mixergy hotwater cylinder. Now I have sussed out that I don’t need any “scheduled” water heating in off peak times I’m heating my 100ltr hotwater tank using Eddi from about 8am here in Central Scotland - I have only a 3.9kW array that is 12 years old and get 18p/kW exported but it’s now proving better financially even over the offpeak import rate of 25p/kW to heat the water in peak rate time by solar diversion. It doesn’t take very long to heat the tank and once the Eddi has heated the tank to 100% and 75C I’m generating more than the 1.5kW needed to start charging my Mini Cooper S E back up to 100% from around 60% during the afternoon when my panels that are on a SouthWest facing roof are getting the full exposure to the sun. Eddi will start diverting solar from about 0.2kW into my hot water cylinder! And I still find I’m exporting enough back to the grid most days to cover the house’s imported electricity (my house is all electric so no gas/oil consumption to take into account)

It's the age old saying, "You get what you pay for." I, too, have the Zappi V2 as I have solar, I have solar, and my Zappi V2 works flawlessly. At the time of purchase, April 2022. This was one of the best Ev Chargers on the market if you also had home solar. I also have the myenergi hub and an extra CT clamp for the solar so I can use the myenergi app.

Well that sounds like my experience, right down to the Hub. More of these are now becoming available with the 'solar aware' functions. Would they have come to the market without the Zappi leading the way? Competition is good for us all.

Thanks John, I do think it's pretty schmick! BTW has P7666 got anything to do with a 1970's car from hell?

@@evtorque well spotted! Yes, my first car was a P76, it taught me a lot of life lessons in the 10 years I drove it. Happily electric now 🙂

@@P7666 Ha, that's awesome. I had 3 myself but only 2 ever ran. I took the V8 out of one and replaced the 6 cyl engined of another. A easy and straight drop-in. ahh the good 'l (bad 'ol) days! Happy to be where we are today in the EV revolution.

I have added a Harvi to my zappi and put a ct clamp on the output for my heat pump. Currently the icon shows as a battery symbol but in the future myenergi will have a heatpump icon. Watch thus space.

Hi, thank you for making this video. I am planning to install solar and an ev charger as we just got a electric car. I was thinking to install the solar first and than the ev charger or maybe both at the same time, any recommendations? In my solar research they were recommending me to buy a consumption monitor but when i did my research on zappi I notice it has a monitoring feature, so does this mean I dont need to buy a consumption monitor for my solar if the zappi can do it?

Hi, Sorry for the late reply, but the answer is the classic yes And no. Yes, the Zappi contains the metering circuitry with inputs for two or three current sensing coils or transformers. You would have to check the specs for the latest model but I think they can take 3 circuits. This would allow monitoring of your generated solar, your flow to/ from the grid and your home's consumption. All these elements are shown on a lovely app on your phone. The Zappi is the centre of our power management when I had originally thought it would be our solar inverter. I did have to purchase a couple of extra CT's to monitor everything but it's well worth it. The new model may already include these. There are cheaper solar aware chargers but I have not seen any that can provide the comprehensive management like the Zappi.

You forget that you DO HAVE battery in your house. Your car has it, VTL of 60kWh battery, more then enough for over night. So, basicly you can be out of the grid and have 0 consumption from the grid. That is what I would do in your place.

This sounds great in theory but in practice there are a few issues. First of all, the power outlets in the home are of course wired directly to the fuse box. To introduce the power from the car, we would need to present it to the same outlets via a set of switchgear. Alternatively an extension and power board can be run from the garage but all the devices that I'd want to run on the car's power would have to be disconnected and plugged into that power board. Then returned to the grid-connected ports every time the car was used. These systems are available however. In the USA, Ford's electric pickup truck, the F150 Lightning comes with this system of switchgear as an option to allow for use in a black-out. Various manufactures are researching Vehicle-to-Home systems but at present they are not readily available for retro fit/use with existing vehicles AFAIK. I have however recently used the car to support medical equipment during a black-out. Worked a treat! Cheers.
