This movie could've created a loss much bigger than 70 million dollars just on the unwanted merchandise that would've been produced. For example, a few months ago people complained that "McFarlane Toys doesn't do enough female action figures" without considering the ones he produced for WW 84 and the Birds of Prey Harley Quinn are still the biggest loss his company has taken as far as DC figures. I would be hesitant as well.

McFarlane used to sell dozens of beautiful half naked angelic demon slayers, and femme fatal assassins in his Spawn line. The problem isn't female characters, its shitty ones like BoP Harley Quinn, and the trash cast. Mattel had the license for the original suicide squad, and it wasn't a huge success, but the better looking Harley definitely sold more. One last rant, I don't collect toys, but if I did, if McFarlane added some women to his MK line, I personally would want the entire cast and not just 10 different colored Scorpions and Subzeros.
@@syckles: You reached the point very well. Another comparison would be that the classic Harley Quinn from Batman The Animated Series was a success in sales as well. I was trying to focus on how DC basically forced McFarlane to make figures of unlikeable movie character versions that nobody wants and he obviously has go all in on fan favourites (which are mostly men) for the next 3 or 4 waves to get that money back (because DC also made him overproduce on those unwanted figures). This "Batgirl" would've caused that kind of loss as well and unlike the comic book industry, people claiming to love the character without buying merch cause a much bigger monetary loss.
also junkets, press conferences, fly the actors all around the world to promote the films, a lot of the superhero films are only succesful because of the worldwide box office, its more expensive to promote superhero films now than films that were only aimed at the USA box office 20 years ago.
Rumour has it that Affleck is replacing Keaton in the Aquaman 2 reshoots, too. Poor Michael... but at least this will *hopefully* prevent the besmirchment of the 1989 and 1992 films.

at first I couldnt believe it... then it made sense, pushing a worse than crap movie in cinemas with world wide commercials and red carpet appearences would put the minimum amount at probably 300-400 mill dollar earnings to break even!so dropping the 70-100 mill dollars seems as a bad 3rd degree burn but alive!
Yeah, I was designing games for an SJW tech company. We couldn't have characters because everything was racist and sexist. Even animals. And we couldn't have story arcs because the characters couldn't start off weak in anything. And the characters couldn't help anybody because they were "pleasing others." So the game ended up being a storyless action game with geometric shapes. Note: The shapes couldn't be white, black, tan, brown, or yellow.
As someone who likes Barbara Gordon, I couldn't be happier. She's never even had a chance at a faithful adaptation to a film. Plus, there's no way they'd make her a movie as serious as Batman gets. They're afraid of letting women get beat up a little in films like this.
Without removing the gay bestie they gave her throughout the movie, Batgirl will tank. It is not terrible because she is black, is terrible because they are not using a black Gordon to be her father and they are using the gay sidekick to be ultra woke. They need to reshoot the sidekick and Gordon bits with other actors, a non gay character and a black actor to play Gordon, yes, another one.

Basically WB cut their losses. Lose 70m instead of however much it would cost to release and market the movie plus however much value the brand loses. Oh. that and the cost of reshoots to make it more palatable.

I remember how bullies in kindergarten would hog the toys, sometimes even getting their parents to help them snatch the best ones off the shelf first. This is huge. Not even trying to recoup costs says two things: 1. Your works sucks, and you should be concerned for not just your job, but your whole future because you have no talent. 2. I have every confidence that every future project will be so successful that this decision will be forgotten as a drop in the bucket financially.
"Aquaman 2" is said to be a pile of filthy crap, by a lot of forecasters... And yet that movie is still set to be released, somehow. Ditto for "Flashpoint," which has merely been "delayed," instead of cancelled. Even those piles of garbage haven't yet been cancelled! So how bad is "Batgirl," if it is SO AWFUL, that David Zaslav is all like: "Yeah... I'm not even going to try and fix this crap. Throw it out." That's EPIC LEVELS OF TERRIBLE, right there! Ezra Miller’s destruction of the releasability of the Flash movie had a lot to do with tanking Michael Keaton’s return. His appearance as Batman in Aquaman 2 makes no sense if Flash doesn’t get released first.

Three minutes in hit a chord when he says the activist writers infiltrated and squatted. They took comics out of the hands of fans and into their own. I'm a fanboy since the early 70s and remember the letter pages as personal interaction between writers and fans, and the writers (younger fans may think I'm making this up) were open about receiving suggestions and criticisms, they even gave space for negative reviews. It was an environment that nurtured fandom. Old Marvel knew what new Marvel can't consider. It was the fans, not Marvel, that elevated characters to popularity and supported them for decades through revolving doors of editors, writers, and artists spending stints. I haven't bought a Marvel comic in years but I'm still a fanboy that wants to believe the Woke Age of comics will pass. I've done decades of supporting the comic industry and my hope sits patiently.
Those were the good 'ol days friend. I always looked forward to those just to see if my letter ever made it. Never did, but there was so much more wholesomeness in the community back then.

You can tell who Zack Snyder casted because he has a good relationship with them. Henry,Ben,Gal, Jason and Ray. Ezra never seemed to connect. Zack rarely talked about him in interviews. He seemed more proud of the rest of the cast

Warner Bros as a brand worth more than $70 m. The public perception of the brand is not good, at least not so good in the public that matters, i.e. those who actually paid and consume the brand's products. If WB is going into this new direction is because the shit hit the fan.

Much like Twilight Batman I was not excited to see Batgirl either so this is no loss for me, I hope things take a turn for the better with DC, Zaslav needs to purge the sjw's from DC. However it seems easier said than done, these parasites do their best to kill their hosts when removal is attempted.

Amber heard and Ezra miller were cast by Snyder. Because of that I actually agree with WBs decision not to rehire Zack Snyder. I do think they should find a way to keep Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot and Jason Mamoa as the characters they portrayed.
Production on the Batgirl film wrapped in April. If this is being announced now it's because of the post production and reshoot costs being so high. Which just further proves to me that Ben Affleck is indeed back as Batman simply because this Batgirl film was supposed to take place in the mainline universe and it just wouldn't make sense if Ben was not in it due to his erasure and replacement by the alternate universe's Keaton Batman no longer being an event that was supposed to happen. Now because of Ben being back, they would need to reshoot major portions of the film so that it can take place entirely in the alternate universe and that would probably be insanely expensive as that Gotham will almost certainly look in the Flash movie like the Tim Burton Gotham does instead of the Zack Snyder one in BVS and Justice League. The action scenes would likely all need to be redone and the cost would be pretty dang high I'd bet. All because Ben Affleck changed his mind lol. I can't blame Discovery and WB. If you can keep Ben and have Keaton as well, do it. Scrap this film and make Batman Beyond at some point instead of Batgirl. The fans would rather see that anyway. I know I would. Also don't be surprised if we soon hear that Affleck just reshot the scene in the Flash film that sees him erased. Now if they still erase Affleck in the Flash movie then this was simply the studio being cheap.

What they need to do for Miller is get him to sit his goofy a$$ down and generate some good press from here on out. If that doesn't happen then they may as well not even start on a Wonder Woman 3 or even release Aquaman 2. If they want to recoup loss and truly restart from scratch they simply need to allow the Flash film to reboot the universe as intended. Even if they need to make reshoots to achieve that ending it would be worth it. Even if they recast Flash as part of the representation of the new universe. Superhero movies are only bad lately due almost exclusively to woke liberal politics informing narrative. Batgirl surely was doing this as well considering the race swap of Barbara Gordon or the fact that this character got a solo story shot before Robin let alone before The Batman of that universe.
