A new head sculpt that I did in Zbrush of Caduceus from the show critical role.
I saw a fan art of the character during the breaks and it inspired me to look for more designs and different takes on the character and I ended up wanting to create one myself so I did just that.

Hi Fynn, I’m a fan of your work I would love to watch a step by step video of everything because sometimes I get lost. I like your technique a lot! (I know you have render and ear tutorials but I want to know more). Best wishes from Mexico

Thank you very much! Glad the videos help you a bit. I wish to do more but I'm currently in the middle of finishing my diploma film that takes most of my time. Tutorials take quite some time to prepare so I do these speedsculpts to not get rusted and there are a lot of fun to do! I will do more tutorials in the future for sure though like on the eyes/mouth/nose

Hey! I am loving this format with the voice over. I am a newbie to ZBrush bit your vids have been very inspiring to me in the process. I am working on a Critical role inspired series of projects. I started with Fjord. Your Cad is really good and he’s making me wanna watch CR. I miss them.

Thanks a lot! If you mean masking the rest of the model when I'm inserting other meshes (like the spheres) I can do that with holding ctrl and clicking on the mesh while I have the move/rotat/scale tool active (transpose line or gizmo) this masks everything except the polygroup that I click on (you need to have proper polygroups for that but as long as you don't create new polygroups the insert meshes automatically create new polygroups to work with)

Fantastic sculpt!! Excellent shapes and 3-dimensional forms on the face. What is a typical poly count for a high res sculpt like this?? Great video! 👍👍
@FynnGB
@FynnGB 4 года назад
Thank you! It depends on the stage of the model and the final polycount depends on the level of details that you want. This one was 7million points (which should be around 14 million polygons) for the head and the upper half of the torso. For super realistic characters like Thanos from the avengers or digital doubles I would estimate that the polycount might be around 40mil just for the face. But once you get into such a high level of realism than things get really technical and it becomes a mix of displacement maps, high frequency maps, shader parameter and sometimes even simulation to get the fine skinpores crisp. But it really depends on the project in the end. I like to test out the resolution on a prominent area of the face (or whatever you want to put detail on). For that I just use an alpha and stamp it onto the surface. If it holds the details well than great if not I add more subdivision levels until I'm satisfied. Hope that helps!

Here is a hair tool for zbrush. gumroad.com/l/UMhCA Follygon has a tutorial using this brush here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3Mm4gFxJtfI.html. The UI has probably changed a little bit since this tutorial. But I think mostly understandable.

Very cool job! I recently subscribed to you and watched a lot of your videos. I like them! I also like the material you use. It reminds me of white chocolate. Could you share your material?
@FynnGB
@FynnGB 4 года назад
Glad you like them! I usually use the material that comes with the default 'DynaWax128' project that you can find in the lightbox under projects. I then dial down the wax modifier of the material down to around 20-30

why don't you use fiber mesh for the hair ? :D
@FynnGB
@FynnGB 4 года назад
For these smaller projects I like to keep things more on the sculpting side of things instead of diving into the technical stuff like grooming. Especially when I want to render it in arnold where I would then have to setup a hair system (with xgen or something similar) and then get into painting maps for the groom which I don't often want to do for a fun side project like this one
