Big thanks to Riley for lending me these trucks for several months and cutting me a great deal on them.

Yeah your review videos are basically the bible at this point. Having ridden these for a season, I wasn't expecting to hear a 40 min detailed description of everything I felt on the trucks, but this is spot on.

Thanks!! I’m glad my experiences align with yours. I usually try to trim the fat from these videos, but I figured I’ll leave it all in because it had been so long since the last proper review.

I became an immature 6th grader again right at 25:00 Thanks for the unintentional humor bud 😂 I will also be buying some zealous now. Your the second reliable recommendation and I'm moving on to narrowed trucks 🤙

been getting back into downhill skating, been street skating all my life but i stopped longboarding back in like 2014 so this whole new slalom truck craze is very new to me, been watching all of your reviews and i thank u for it. Still rocking one of my og setups with like 190mm surfrodz for freeride and a big sector 9 daisy but once i get my groove bakc i'll def invest in one of these smaller boards and trucks bc they seem so damn fun and cool looking

As a huge Caliber trucks fan, I would love this too, Caliber II vs Caliber III Raked... since the non-raked is pretty much the same
@flurpoid
@flurpoid Месяц назад
I've ridden them all, and they've really only gotten better. Cal 1s are notorious for their narrow kingpin hole in the hanger which limited lean, which they widened in 2013 and changed the stock bushing formula. Cal 2s really just refined the bushing seat and strengthened the truck overall. Cal 3s are where the real changes were made, adding the raked option, plugged barrels, shim for tall bushings on 44 plates, etc.

Love these trucks. They really blew me away. Your review is on point. I played around with these a bit to increase the slalom aspect by adding cone bushings roadside. I got real deep turns out of them. The cones defeat the restrictive bushing seats. A nice hack if you wanted to run cones with these. I know a few people running Zealous for GS slalom racing. A little slow on reaction for tight or most hybrid for me but these are a DH free ride truck and not a true slalom truck. But I will say this is one of the best purchases I’ve made in years. The Zealous trucks are a delight to ride.

*Another great review!* 👌🏽🤙🏽👌🏽 I really enjoy these reviews, I'm a big truck geek so I love the depth and detail you go into, not just specs but ride feel/what it feels like to ride and the variations you try. 👌🏽 Additionally, bushing setups/info 🤩 Not many youtube reviews on the WFB formula so this was cool! Personally I wanna try their APS formula, I usually ride Venom HPF, the SHR formula wasn't for me so I'm guessin Riptide Krank won't be for me either. Appreciated the pivot cup and bushing seat info, Very interestin trucks! #TSGPassGang

I’m a lil late to this video, but I rode my zealous for several months with the stock venoms and while I liked them, I didn’t love them. I also brought mine to Tepe, and soon after decided I needed to try riptides. Sadly this video wasn’t out yet so I just had to do some testing of my own. After swapping to riptide (wfb 73/78, 93/95, plus pivot cup), I have experienced big performance improvements from the trucks. They feel better for both downhill race-y riding as well as freeride. The riptides gave me a lot more confidence doing standups at speed, and doing bigger standups at slower speeds. These were my first set of dh slalom trucks, I had tried but not owned ronins and rogues in the past, and would be hard pressed to take the zealous off my board at this point.

I loved this! Your explanation and demo on the progressive bushing lean on the trucks was great! I'm going to steal your riptide bushing setup and buy some WFB's to match how you currently run your Zealous trucks. How often did you try the different truck widths with the spacers? Do you think that would impact how they freeride / race?
@owencampbell777
@owencampbell777 5 месяцев назад
I always used the widest width when freeriding and the narrowest when doing glove-down skating. It makes a small difference in improving grip and braking force

Curious are you gonna try to get the wider v2s at any point. Curious as to what you think of those, if you ever ride them here in the future, I have the v1s and I love how they feel. Honestly been riding 73/78 front 90/93 in the back. Getting some seismic bushings to try in them here soon. But dope video and extremely informative. Imo.

@owencampbell777 Honestly, I've got the V2s now, too. They are great. Bit more beginner friendly on the stand up game. That's what I'm working on. Same thing just a bit more drifty. But also zealous apparently got symmetrical trucks in the work so keep an eye out, if you didn't already know that.

WFB is like around 6A's lower than HPF in terms of hardness. 93A WFB feels similar to 87A HPF imo. Your front trucks are not softer than double pink Venoms? edit: WFB orange (78A) and green (73A) would make it feel comparable to HPF 72A (approximately the pink) and 67A (no HPF duro available).

Hello Owen, I always enjoy reading your in-depth reviews. I am a rider who enjoys gradually increasing the speed and difficulty by gradually increasing the wheel width and decreasing the hanger length. I've recently been thinking about purchasing my first narrow precision truck. The thing I'm most interested in right now is a zealous truck, and your review was very helpful (even though there are very few zealous truck reviews). One thing I'm curious about is, does the kingpin on the rear base plate(even if wedging it about 6 degrees to make it about 25 degrees) make it impossible to core a wheel (not only small freeriding wheels but also downhill wheels with larger cores)? It's a pessimistic guess because it has a low angle and tall bushings, but I'm a rider who enjoys coring, so I'm asking just in case.
@cowboy4187
@cowboy4187 9 дней назад
I run my on the stock 19 and cannot core any wheels i've tried. Even the seismic big core freeride wheels were scraping towards the end. I move wheels over to the big freeride board when they hit about 55mm.

@@cowboy4187 I think I'll probably end up doing it that way too, thanks for the answer!

Awesome review, I've been looking into saving up for my first pair of precision trucks. It was a tie between a set of DT Haki's or a set of Zealous Trucks. Bro, you basically jsut told me exactly what to get lol 😂 Also, what deck are you using in the video? I know you said it, but i couldn't quite understand what you said. So, if you could pleaaase lemme know the deck 🙏🙏🙏

Im looking to get these trucks as my first dh slalom trucks. What are your favorite dh/freeride wheels for techy stuff? Not looking for wheels that grip like a vice but i want something that'll slow me down smoothly. Im not a racer, I just like having fun and skating hard-ish. Thanks for the review and any help!
@owencampbell777
@owencampbell777 4 месяца назад
I think you would enjoy Muirskate Phat Boyz. They’re pretty grippy with skin but they turn into really comfortable DH wheels. I experienced smooth slides, even while they had fresh skin and lips. If you want something with more roll speed, the LDP version of the Seismic Alpha is fast as hell and isn’t as race-focused. They’re narrower and the lips aren’t as sharp, so they’re more comfortable to slide

Nice review as ever Owen. Can you tell me what wheelbase length these add? You mentioned in the DH Cybins review that those added 2 1/2” and I wondered how the Zealous compare. Thanks! Andy

I don't know off the top of my head, but I think it's around 1 to 1.5" , which is not as exaggerated as the DH Cybins

Hey have you put 80mm wheels on these trucks? I feel like risers might be necessary depending on the board. I appreciate the review.
@owencampbell777
@owencampbell777 3 месяца назад
Largest I used were 79mm Cuei A1, and the widest I used were 78mm Magnums. I had no issues with wheelbite. If your deck has flush mounts that lower the ride height, you might need risers.

@@owencampbell777 I am in the process of setting up a landyachtz blaze. The mount is recessed but so are the wheel wells! I took a few light runs in the neighborhood with 80.5 alphas on 1/4 in risers and then went down to 1/8. Idk how confident I would be to send it without risers though. I very much appreciate your insight. Makes me feel pretty good knowing you are getting away without risers on these low trucks. This is my entry to narrow hangers and it only took a few short runs to understand why you guys are killing it on such small set ups 💯

I borrowed a set from a buddy for a week but it I didn’t get the chance to mess with the bushings, they were set up pretty similar to how I normally ride my trucks but they felt pretty dead and not lively on slow paths (~30kmh) but felt great on fast runs, it’s what’s stopping me from buying a set cause I skate paths a lot, have you noticed that or does the deadness go away with tuning the bushings?

On a downhill longboard do the wheels have to be aligned with the board or can they stick out a bit
@owencampbell777
@owencampbell777 Месяц назад
They can stick out or go under however much you like. People call it "rail match" when they align to the sides of the board. I think "rail match" is pretty meaningless, so don't worry about it!
