I was in the process of building a Sram equipment deck. Do you think Nazahn works better as a commander for the archetype?

Nazahn is basically a Stoneforge mystic in the command zone. He works incredibly well in tandem with the new equipment, Hammer of Nazahn, which does a lot of good stuff for equipment based decks too.

At the 8:00 mark you did mention that the Mogis player didnt biumce his stuff and that it didn't matter, but it did... thats 4 mana he still has access to. He wouldnt be able to cast two spells. Also, the person who casted rift overloaded shouldve waited for the havoc festival trigger to go on the stack and then cast it. So the mogis player would his life too.

I used to play Zedruu, took it apart because I had another Group Hug that it was too similar too. It's a fun deck, and once you start to draw off her, you get ahead so fast.

Thinking of trying sigil of distinction in Nazhan. With good land and artifact ramp it can be cast at good amounts and equip cost is negated by the hammer. Not to mention the mana doublers that come with the pre-con.

Just a little note: On 8:35 Sean casts Lightning greaves and equip them onto Nazhan (due to hammer or aid, whatever). And then he casts Sword of the Animists and equip it too. However, both Hammer and Aid lets you equip to TARGET creature you control, which you are unable to do under greaves.

Do you run Solemnity? If so I feel like tutoring for it there with unlife out might've saved you unless I'm missing something? This was a great game with all sorts of unique strategies. Love the video!

MTG Muddstah It has worked wonders in my Zedruu deck with DoS, Dark Depths, and unlife but mostly just for shutting down the endless number of Atraxa players.

MTG Muddstah I tried for like 2 years to get Dralnu to work. He's my favorite legendary creature in my favorite colors, so I just slammed him into my new Mairsil list. Looking forward to seeing how you build him, the last time I got a game in with him he got targeted with a Shivan Meteor (thank God for Neurok Stealthsuit).

My commander box is still in the mail, but I am really excited to try out Nazahn, I think hes the better GW commander out of the deck. Arahbo seems unfocused and doesnt seem to scale that well from what ive seen.

Have you ever thought about playing Zedruu as a Voltron Enchantress deck? There's plenty of old Auras you can bounce for 1 mana, creating a draw engine, and tons of funny enchantments you can use for victory conditions. Not to mention the amount of Auras you can use to phase/blink/revive Zedruu in case of removal. It would be an interesting take on a well known general.

8:33 Sean got the order of the equipments wrong xD It couldn't have been possible to attach the sword of the animist since he already equipped the lightning greaves giving his creature shroud. I know that feel since I also have a nazahn deck and had to take the greaves off the deck, that's why swiftfoot boots is ten times better for that deck

I built the same kind of Zedruu deck back when my group was full swing into playing EDH. I really just wanted Enduring Ideal to work. Reito Lantern was my way of not getting screwed out of my Solitary if it got bounced/destroyed

It can and does work. I just jumped the gun and didn't think it through. I could have done much better with some cleaner lines of play sadly.

Did you ever play the mistveil plains or did it get wheel'd? You could of discarded solitary confinement and put it back on the bottom of your deck if you did have it.

Did you have Mistveil Plains? It seems to me you could have discarded Solitary Confinement using the Sanitarium, and then put it on the bottom of your library with Mistveil Plains to get it in play with Enduring Ideal.

I did, but I dumped it early on. There were several less than optimal plays on my part in the game, lol. I was desperately using Geier Reach near the end to find and dump Ulamog just for the graveyard shuffle effect.

just as a side note, at 8:41 when sean is having fun with equipment, he made a misplay, equipped sword of the animist -after- lightning greaves, at which point nazahn has shroud, not allowing him to target nazahn with any further equip abilities

Could you direct me to the ruling that differentiates between "casting" and "putting" in regards to shroud? I've got some friends that need to be pissed off.

a card that is casted can't be un-casted, so a when you cast this spell effect can't be countered. but if a spell with an enter the battlefield ability is countered, the effect doesn't happen because it has never entered the battlefield. *put onto the battlefield* doesn't trigger cast effects, because it is not cast. it can also not be countered, because only casted spells can be countered. enter the battlefield effects do still happen, because it entered the battlefield.

Per what I found on MTGSalvation: "Aura only targets when cast as a spell. If it's put into the battlefield by another effect (such as Sun Titan's ability) it doesn't target, and thus it can be attached to creatures with shroud. Another example of ability that can put an Aura onto the battlefield is Zur the Enchanter, and from it's gatherer ruling: 7/15/2006: If you use Zur the Enchanter's triggered ability to search for an Aura, it will be put onto the battlefield attached to an appropriate permanent. It doesn't target that permanent. If no appropriate permanent exists for it to be attached to, that Aura can't be put onto the battlefield and stays in your library."

It is one of those really weird and unintuitive rules that everyone probably plays incorrectly until someone tells you about it, usually by ruining your plan by putting it on something with hexproof. Still can't attach it on something with a relevant protection.

I run straight burn spells like Spiraling Embers and Master the Way for the late game, but ideally I chain wheel effects with Alhammarret's Archive and something like Psychosis Crawler or Niv Mizzet on the field. There's also Laboratory Maniac in there. Bulwark can also get crazy if left unchecked.

i have a mogis deck similar to the one in the game. but its almost creaturless and is a stax punisher deck. what happens is i lock people out of the game then use punishing cards to slowly torture them to death. its lots of fun and has a few game winning combos. my favorite is repercussion and blasph act. the very first game i played with it, before i had even tweaked it, i locked the other 3 out of the game so badly that they died to mogis upkeep damage.

its beautiful, but you have to play it sparingly. ive gotten it to the point where you would lose 8 life just for playing a land. tapping the land would deal damage to them as well. fun deck to pilot, doesnt make friends.

Ah, I see. No big deal, my group has so many misplays it would drive a sane person mad. We just take the game state back or play through. Was just interested to see if I was missing something because watching this Nazahn deck has made me want to play it really badly haha.

Am I the only one who noticed the fact that at 8:00 , you lost half of your life with Havoc, but you rounded it down instead of up. So you went to 2 life when you should have went to 3 instead. Thus having 1 life left after the damage from fevered vision.

@MTG Muddstah: I really like your deck, but do not really understand, why zedruu is such a popular commander. There is much power in legendaries in his color and he seems a little bit cheesy. Great enjoyable game tho!

She's a reliable card draw engine and can be political by giving people things that might help them. This can buy me a turn or two to steal out a win.
