This evening i won a box of random junk at an auction in the new forest and in the box was a contessa nettel cocarette F=10 from the 1920s! I am now trying to learn how to use it and clean it. Thank you for your videos. Inspirational and helpful

Another charming and informative video. Love all these old cameras. The lady in question must have been so pleased that you took the time to develop these pictures. Many thanks for keeping these beautiful things alive.

Fantastic, Peter! Loved watching this. You can see that this was a decent quality camera to have survived so well for 80yrs or so. Amazing to be able to recover those images - a real credit to your dark room skill!

Dear Peter, nice review. I've got a Zeiss Ikon Nettar 6x9 with a hexagonal front plate. Rare model. In great shape. Working perfect at ISO 100 B&W. Works perfect with the sunny 16 rule. Buy it on ebay for £24.99. In the advertising says Voightlander Nettar. I think the seller doesn't know what he selling. So, I'm a lucky one.

I'm pretty sure i have that same one! but unfortunately i don't know much about camera either, i don't even know if it works, can you tell me aproximatelly how much does it cost? (it is a zeiss ikon, it has the bag and the hexagonal front plate, with no reel, and it looks alright) I would appreciate a lot if you could help me!

@theoldfilmbloke 3 года назад
@@veranovawillems5380 It was FREE to me - I have no idea how much to Buy' one -- maybe £20 ? When you say it has 'No Reel ' do you mean it has no 120 film spool to take up the film ? There are plenty of 120 size spools available but NOT 620 size.

i have a nearly identical camera, its a zeiss ikon nettar. mine has a hexagonal front standard/shutter plate. i use it for nighttime shots of the sky, and some long exposures of allyways in the dusk. the raccoon eyes dance across the exposure. its brilliant.

I've had 3 of them that I shot with until the bellows got holes in them. I loved working with them and they took wonderful photos.

I also have a similar camera in terms of lens max. aperture and available shutter speeds. The max aperture is f7.7, the same and the shutter speeds are also 1/25, 1/75, B, T. It's Voigtlander Bessa which you can install a 6x4.5 mask if you want 'half-frame'. The lens is Voigtar. Although it appears to be a simple camera and positioned on the cheap price range, the build quality is really nice and sturdy. The bellow is still in excellent condition.

Could you help me to identify year of production of my own one? Looks less modern. Novar Anastigmat 10,5cm 6,3, Telma shutter. The camera works perfectly.

I do like those old folders, they give very nice results if you work with their limitations. Post WW2 most had gone up to a more useful 1/200 shutter speed, in line with faster films.

Sorry -- I have NO IDEA what that could be as my Zeiss Ikon does not have it . I gave my Zeiss Ikon a trip out after i had got inside and cleaned the 'Haze' and on outdated film got very sharp results !

Hello mr Peter , I just bought one of this cameras , and it has still the film inside. How can I put out the film without destroying it and where can I the best go to develop it
@theoldfilmbloke
@theoldfilmbloke 3 года назад
Nicole -- you must wind off all the film and backing paper first, observing through the red window then you can open the camera and the film will be rolled up safely so you can get it out. Then you must FOLD OVER the leader of the backing paper and stick down with the supplied paper sealer. You can find many photo labs online -- you do not say if you are in UK or not . Or contact your local Camera Club for help.

Thanks for that. It was really helpful. I’ve got an earlier one, I believe pre 1940. I had it serviced recently and have run off a few spools. Now I understand why my photos are blurry - it’s metres and not feet for focus! The lab recommended 400 speed film, but with 1/100 sec fastest shutter speed, I still have to use the narrowest aperture to keep the light meter happy. I would love to experiment with wider aperture settings, but can’t work out how to do that if I can’t shorten the exposure time beyond 1/100. Any ideas?

That is EASY -- use a 'Less Sensitive Film' such as 125ASA !

Not sure what you mean - I am always careful how I let out the bellows of old folders and I have now cleaned inside the lens after using a spanner wrench on the retaining ring at the rear and it is now all clean and lubricated. All I need now is Better Weather and a chance to use it again with better quality film .
