I'm glad I came across this vid. I also have an N1 and love it! Do you CLA service work for the N1?

Nail polish remover helps with loosing screws coated with Loctite, that's typically what I use when repairing my lenses.

I'll definitely give acetone a try next time i run into trouble like that.

Hey thanks for the vid. I am a fan of the N1 as well. I picked up 8 out of the 9 lenses made for the system. I noticed that the many of Vario-Sonnar 28-80 mm have issues with the auto focus failing. Have you worked on any of these lenses? Is this the same issue with them?

Same issue effects almost all of the N series lenses. Either the Motor gear popping due to age or the USM Motor getting jammed up and needing serviced.

@@TheNimsloGuy I have had a few examples of every N lens made bar the N400 400mm f4 and what you say is true. The worst culprits are the 28-80mm which I have had 3 samples all fail because of plastic cogs stripping from normal/gentle use and the 17-35mm f2.8 which has really fragile motors which fail. The former comment is based on owning 1 formerly functioning version and 3other versions tested in shops. Have you had any experience in replacing these motors and are there more modern/efficient motors to replace them with? These lenses are great for their age. What many forget is that they pretty much represent the begining of autofocusing lenses so it's no surprise that the motors are weak and they don't focus as fast as modern lenses.

@@TheNimsloGuy Please, please document this is you do repair a N Digital. These have a real quality about them, CCD tech, great colour rendition and handling. Unfortunately, they seem to have finite lifespans and inevitably fail. If it's anything like the N1 on which it's based, I've had 2 failures of this, it's the electromagnetic shutter so I'd check this first. I've not tried to fix my N1 shutter failures because it's cost prohibitive but I see you've done a stripdown of the Contax 645 so I'm hoping that you can tackle this and shed some light on how to fix them.

This lens had hard stop manual focus? Thx
@yeer31
@yeer31 3 года назад
It has a hard stop with torque relief. If you keep turning the manual focusing past the hard stop, there is a torque relief mechanism which kicks in and keeps the focusing ring rotating. It's quite obvious when you reach the hard stop, the torque relief just helps prevent the plastic cogs from stripping.
