Who exactly is the Triforce Keeper (standing at the end of the game during the battle with Dark Link)? There is no explanation of who he is. And, there is no explanation if "Triforce Keeper" is his name. Is he a sage or a wizard; he must be some spirit.

Great video. I have so many fond memories of this game - I was absolutely in love with the first and I think I was about 8 when I played it. When the second came out I BEGGED my parents to get it but all the stores were sold out. We went to New York and saw it in a store there for like 75 dollars and they got it for me. I beat it eventually - loved the game and maybe it’s rose colored glasses but I don’t get the hate for it.

There are also more towns than sages, with the two towns of Kasuto in particular being a mystery as to where the name comes from in the lore. Programming-wise there is no mystery at all. It's a name they used.

As far as I'm concerned though the "swapped out" thing (assuming I understand what you mean) only happens when evil threatens Hyrule. There's an implication that has never been resolved. In the first Zelda game you save the current Zelda. Then Zelda 2 takes place immediately after. You save Zelda's ancestor. What happens after that? There are two Princesses here. Does the original simply live a normal life in a new age, does the other Zelda step down to give her ancestor the crown? The personalities of both are unknown, so we can only guess what happens. Though this would give us an interesting bit of intrigue if they ever decided to continue the series with a Zelda 3. I doubt they would though, but its fun to speculate.

High difficulty seems to polarise audiences. Zelda II lovers adore the game for its high combat difficulty whereas haters loathe it for the exact same reason. I wonder if a mentality for acquiring skill through discipline divides these players
@wearytaco1641
@wearytaco1641 Год назад
I don't think it's all about discipline. I personally play games because life is hard and I need a break doing something that is not hard. So I usually put my games anywhere from normal to easy. I used to play on hard mode and legendary modes and stuff. But.... I just want to escape and live the fantasy world and enter a new role. But I definitely agree that the difficulty settings of games creates a polarization.

The thing these retrospects forget is that, at the time, it wasn't a controversy that this one was side scrolling because there were only two games. We didn't make a big deal about it. We played the game and enjoyed it. It wasn't until the later ones came out that it became a weird one since it was the only one of it's kind.

Mr. M., not to mention it still retained the key elements of the Zelda formula. 1. Go to temple 2. Acquire item and defeat boss. 3. Access new area. 4. Rinse and repeat. It was simply a different battle system and perspective, but mostly the same type of game. No materially different than what makes final fantasy a consistent franchise.

dollores, I disagree about it being the best, even though I liked so much about it. It did set the stage for so many future innovations that gamers love and adore. I really don't like what the LOZ franchise has become, after/since 'A Link To The Past'. I much preferred the darker, grittier, unforgiving atmosphere and nature of the first/original 3 games. But Zelda 2 was the very best of the 3, for me. More challenging than Z1, but not so convoluted as Z3. Maybe I grew up/matured faster than most of my peers at the time, but I just think the later Zelda games added way too many things that made it too.... i don't know...... cutesy/bishonen for me. It kind of makes sense, looking back........ by the time Zelda 64 came out, I abandoned console gaming and moved on to Mortal Kombat (in the arcades) and then PC gaming: Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem, Unreal Tournament... with all the blood, guts, gore, and political INCORRECTness......... stuff that Nintendo (at the time) would just censor or outright prohibit from being created on their platform...... that was really irritating to me. (I guess you could say that I was "Rated-M", even when my age was still in the single digits!) (But I think I turned out okay.....)
