No barista's were harmed during the making of this video. As long as Keurig doesn't sue me for this video you can continue to find new weekly podcasts at groundupshow.com.
Luis Zecena it’s inside jokes for people who know a little more about pour overs. For example, it is very well known in the pour over coffee community to grind your beans just before brewing. Mat grinds his beans at the grocery store (he now uses a Baratza Encore to grind at home) which causes the beans to lose over half it aroma after 15 minutes, and lose most of its CO2 in 60 seconds. This pisses off the barista because he takes coffee very seriously while Mat doesn’t. It’s really funny if you are into pour overs or specialty coffee.
If you have a vitamix blender you can use it to grind coffee. It's not as ideal as a manual burr grinder since the blade from any grinder will produce heat onto the beans- but it's still better than already ground coffee that's been in your pantry for days. If you're too busy to enjoy this every day- just get the whole beans at the store- have them grind only SOME of the bag of beans you're buying (enough for the week assuming you shop weekly). This way you have your already ground coffee for most of the week when you have less time, but still have some whole beans for yourself to grind on the weekends or during times when you can relax and sip a better tasting cup of coffee.
Ah, now I understand what's been missing from my coffee routine. Thanks to this video I went out and bought a Keurig and now I put a K-cup in it and place it into the trash every day. At night I remove it from the trash and throw away the K-cup so I can start the process all over again the next day. My coffee's never tasted better!
"Go get a job at Starbucks!" 😂😂😂 I have to say my heart fell when I saw the Keurig. But I kept watching because I knew deep down that you were better than that. 😊
LOL. This was hilarious. Over the last decade I've tried to love coffee and be one of the cool kids. I just can't do it. Even with a ton of cream and sugar I just don't like the taste. So I guess I'm just stuck being Team Tea for life.
Ok there is just one thing I want to share: James Hoffman did the coffee temperature experiment and discovered is basically impossible to brew coffee at too high a heat except in a brewer that heats it's own water ( espresso, coffee machine, ect... ) and even then over heating is mostly theoretical and basically never happens. If you brew with boiling water and it tastes "hollow" or something, the problem is not that you brewed too hot - the problem is you're drinking it too hot! Let it cool and you will discover an incredible world of taste. You can tell me I'm wrong, but that just means you've never tested it. 👍😁
just looked it up and I don't know about the whole drinking it too hot thing but I agree the whole brewing too hot and scalding the beans thing is bull shirt if you ask me this whole video is so condescending and full of bad information this guy is a total twat
Correct. This was tested by me extensively with a pour over flask/decanter. Let the coffee cool to taste coffee flavours. It’s our tongues not the maker.
I love that a RU-vidr like Matt is into coffee like this. I've worked in the coffee industry for the past four years thanks making my first pour over the year before, so seeing such an artful video all about coffee but NOT made by someone in the biz is refreshing. It's satisfying to see another person share in an experience that's so significant to your own life.
Plot twist: three years from now, you’ll launch The PODcast Show. Your intro will be placing a coffee pod into your machine. The show is sponsored by Keurig.
Matt D'Avella “but ideas are cheap, Matt. Just like the keurig coffee machine. Because coffee doesn’t need to be expensive to be delicious. The PODcast Show starts *click pod in machine* NOW”
1. The thicker layer of filter goes on the side where the pourer is. 2. Coffee to water ratio is the most important thing for making good coffee. 3. The video is still hilarious. Love it. :D
Your videos are top notch man. There’s a great deal of quality present in all of them in both audio/visuals as well as the message. Your videos instill a huge motivation to take the time to put the extra effort into everything created. Thank you for all the inspiration from every video you create.
I make coffee in exactly the same way, but I add one step. I warm up the cup and the coffee maker first with hot water. If I don't, the coffee become too lukewarm for my taste because it takes 2-3 minutes to completely drip through. Grtz, Vera from Simple Happy Zen
Alright! Ok! You convinced me, Matt. I opened up a new tab and bought a similar coffee maker so I can meditate and look cool. Maybe it'll give me biceps too.
I'm a tea drinker and can really relate to turning such a simple everyday task into a mindfulness practice. I'm also British and thoroughly enjoy the way you pronounce "coffee" Claire Marshall on RU-vid has some great shots in her vlogs of making coffee in the same way, and I love those!
Best coffee tutorial ever! So many baristas have brewing tutorials that are flawed one way or the other while claiming to teach you to make the perfect cup of coffee. This approach is much more honest, realistic and practical. Nice work, Matt!
If you’re going so far as to use a gooseneck kettle, chemex, and intelligencia roasted coffee.. just get a scale... you’ll create consistency for every brew
I’m a barista from a specialty coffee shop and I can say, good taste on coffee the coffee brand you chose. Try stump town too, it has a lot of amazing flavors
in the family we usually use an italian coffee maker, which combines boiler, a filter and coffee pot. we just put water on the bottom, then we put cofee in a upper part (like a metallic filter), and screw it with the top, and we just have to boil it, the the coffee is ready (idk if you understood my explaination). The coffee maker we use : www.google.com/search?q=cafetiere+italienne&rlz=1C5CHFA_enFR714FR715&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=iO4ZtU3sBOLZVM%253A%252CsOhJ93nISGXJsM%252C%252Fm%252F0fg_4r&usg=AI4_-kRVbi2XoDtaterTpbDjdzKBlN1Org&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj8_pqaxevfAhWyQxUIHcn2AOgQ_h0wFXoECAUQCg#imgrc=518hHJ1iOGBiQM: For the explaination : www.google.com/search?q=cafetiere+italienne&rlz=1C5CHFA_enFR714FR715&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=iO4ZtU3sBOLZVM%253A%252CsOhJ93nISGXJsM%252C%252Fm%252F0fg_4r&usg=AI4_-kRVbi2XoDtaterTpbDjdzKBlN1Org&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj8_pqaxevfAhWyQxUIHcn2AOgQ_h0wFXoECAUQCg#imgdii=zPUzCl94kmAz5M:&imgrc=iO4ZtU3sBOLZVM: sorry if you see the comment is too long, but I wanted to make sure that everything is understandable
Amazing! This is the very first video that gives me that sensation while watching people making coffee. Your editing skill is on point, plus funny narration. Keep up the great work Matt.
I'm Italian too and moka is a shit. Why? Because you bring to a boil the water and you kill the coffee. The Real Coffee is done like this, just pouring water onto it
I use my Chemex every day in the office. Saved a lot of money on not buying coffee outside and it tastes so much better. Love your video's and podcasts, Matt. Keep it up.
That barista, tho! 🤣😂 I’m dying. Thank you for making this video! And thanks for alleviating the guilt that i don’t have a coffee thermometer. There’s hope for my pour over coffee yet. Caffeinated life goals. 👍☕️
James Hoffman told us that boiling water isnt that bad, even water is 100C degrees the final temperature of coffee will not raise above 92C degrees. So, being a barista, i appreciate your message. One day people will drink good coffee!
Try this genius: add coffee powder + sugar into coffee mug. Heat milk but don't boil. Mix 2-3 teaspoon of that hot milk into the mixture inside the mug. Mix well till it's a paste . Finally, add the rest of the milk to the mug from a certain height say 10 cm to the mug mixture.. : that's method one for a good coffee, simple and sweet. If you like this method I can give method two, that's more awesome
Matt D'Avella completely represents my way of making coffee: loving coffee so much and enjoying the art of making coffee, but not snobbish enough so that any barista wouldn't hate me lol.
My mom loves hers too, but the barista in my silently judges her every time I go to her house and see it sitting there in her kitchen. Then I remember that I'm the one who bought it for her because I knew she wanted one lol
Hilarious. I could watch coffee making vids all day. I don't know why. This one is my favorite now though 😀 even though I'm a purist and go burr grinder/ French press😉
YES! FINALLY! Chemex is one of the best alternative brewing method. I love it so much! BUT you're doing one thing wrong :D Put your filter in chemed this way: 3 layers where the spout is and 1 layer on the other side. It provides better water flow. And if you want good coffee you should check out www.coffeedesk.com. It'll be honor to send you some good coffee and coffee gear! :) Let the dark powe... COFFEE be with you, Matt!
assuming quality beans nothing wrong with preground if it isnt past the normal use date. IME, after opening bag it lasts at least 3 days in airtight container.
@@hxcjoshua1 not you should drink straight. you should try a few different coffees from your local specialty cafe black and see if you like it. you might be surprised. If not go back to milk, cream, sugar etc
Although there isn't just one right answer, I'd say minimalism isn't about living with zero stuff, it's about being mindful of the things one owns (and the reason for purchasing/keeping them), resulting in only living with items that enhance one's life and bring genuine long term joy :)
Listen m8 not really sure if you have ever tried turkish/greek coffe but you definitely should. If you want to make some just use the same coffe you uses on thin vide (since i don't really know what you used I suggest you buy typical turkish/greek coffe) use one of those small 1 cup kettles that have a long hande , put as much water as your cup gets and if your cup is the one you used on this video put 2,5 pastry spoon coffe,if you want also sugar . Mix it with your spoon till it boils , pour it to your cup , ready to drink !!!
Like a lot other I first came aware of your channel with your extremely successful video. I love your channel and now I can’t stop watching, now only if someone on RU-vid or yourself would take all of your life lessons/ motivational dialogue and put it into one giant compilation 🤔
