After the Demon Slayer Season 3 anime during the Infinity Castle Arc, Zenitsu ends up alone during the final arc, but he’s a man on a revenge mission at this point so I’m sure he wouldn’t have had it any other way. When Zenitsu enters Muzan’s infinity castle, as everyone else is getting into the battles, Zenitsu is searching for One Demon in Particular, the new Upper Moon 6, Kaigaku. When Zenitsu finds him, Zenitsu fills with Rage as he tells Kaigaku that he’s here to take him down because their master took his own life upon hearing that Kaigaku had become a demon, and this fight is REALLY flashy given Kaigaku’s ability to not only use Thunder Breathing, but also his own Blood Demon Art which only enhances his attacks with actual lightning. Over the course of the battle Kaigaku uses EVERY Breath of thunder form except for the first which he never learned, but eventually the difference in their skill makes itself obvious, as Zenitsu CRUSHES all of Kaigaku’s forms with just the first one, and ends the battle with an entirely new technique. Afterwards as Zenitsu is dying, he sees the old man once again, who sends him back across the Sanzu river, back into the world of the living.

What’s more heart breaking is before dying, Kaigaku screams at Zenitsu blaming that the technique that he used to defeat him wasn’t taught to him by the master and he thought the master has played favourite with Zenitsu. Then Zenitsu told him that the 7th Thunder technique Flaming Thunder god was created by him so he can fight demon together with Kaigaku. Truly a heart breaking moment for both Zenitsu and Kaigaku. One has to use his own technique to execute his beloved senior and one has to die knowing how much his junior aspire to fight against demon with him.

Mostly true, the last page of chapter 145, Zenitsu says he created the 7th form because he wanted to fight Kaigaku as an equal. I think your way would have been more poetic, though, Zenitsu wanting to fight alongside his frenemy before he turned demon.

The funny part of this battle is that even though Kaigaku has mastered the 2nd to 6th form of thunder breathing, qualifies as a thunder hashira candidate and has an upper rank demon stats, Zenitsu can still literally one shot him anytime he wanted. The only reason why Zenitsu was even injured was because he wanted to give Kaigaku a chance to explain himself. If he didn't, Kaigaku would be dead before he can make a single attack.

The point was that Zenitsu’s fear and doubts were the only things holding him back. He trained so hard that his body fully knew the technique, but he could only effectively use it asleep, when he was calm. In this battle he was fully calm and not panicked. Now it’s not just muscle memory but also conscious thought and strategy involved, making him way stronger than before.

@@xrzezero inosuke never reaches the level of a hashira. Conditions necessary to become hashira include either killing a sum of demons ( I believe 50) or a member of twelve kizuki. Zenitsu alone slaughtered upper 6 so he qualifies to be a hashira. Tanjiro also blitzed and beheaded akaza (albeit didn't defeat him but still... Thats upper 3 we talking about) which i believe would also make him qualify for hashira. Inosuke supported a lot during douma fight but lack of feat and the fact douma got ended by shinobu proves that inosuke hasn't qualified to be a hashira

@Somkin they made the Tengen vs Gyutaro fight longer in the anime (I heard it was only less than 5 panels in the manga) so I trust DS animators to make this fight much better in anime. Anyway DS is pretty fast though, they manage to release a new season in just a year, considering the quality. Maybe we can see Infinity Castle arc animated by next year.

Not entirely alone, he was medically treated after tanking all the dark thunder attacks, then during the muzan battle the iconic triple rush attack with inosuke using crazy cutting then zenitsu using flaming thunder god then tanjiros 13th form spam happened which clutched up bc it gave the hashira time to regen a bit

i loved this part and return to it often - it is completely different look on zenitsu, and i just love how kaigaku is angry about Zenitsu being taught another form, only for zenitsu to say that he created it (inspired by sun dance/flame dance from tanjiro) and wanted to show it to his fellow student - also the end where he is happy about zenitsu going to go splat only for zenitsu being saved

It was implied by the author that Kaigaku recently became a demon and thus, hasn't had the time to get adjusted to use his techniques in his demon form. Meaning that Zenitsu might've actually lost if he and Kaigaku met further in the future. We are not denying the skills of Zenitsu in this fight. Just that the fight could've turned out a lot different if they met at a later date.

Yeah but keep in mind Zenitsu still could’ve got Red Blade,Stw,and slayer mark but was still strong without those.Yushiro doesn’t know about any of those so he can’t see Zenitsu getting that strong.Even tho he can

@zhavierbrown4422 yeah but the author was clear on his statement. So even with marks, most people cannot beat an upper moon on their own. Which is why it was stated that every time an upper moon was defeated, it was because the slayers and hashira had an assistance. On their own, they cannot beat an upper moon. Which is why the author said that Zenitsu was fortunate to confront Kaigaku at this moment, because Kaigaku was still new to being a demon and didn't adjust to using his demon body and his techniques.

@@zhavierbrown4422 Tbh kaigaku himself can get DSM, Red Bladed and access to transparent world since i believe Kokushibou is the one who choose kaigaku to be a demon and i clearly know he ain't picking random nobodies to be a demon he might have seen real potential in kaigaku. Who knows if he wasn't arrogant and a pain in the ass he might have been a great slayer.

@@zhavierbrown4422 yeah yuishiro is just negative in everything. But it would have been better if zenitsu and inosuke got their Slayer marks during the muzan fight. I hope ufotable make some changes in the last fight to make it more difficult , destructive and long .

Zenistu: -kill an uppermoon -get back to life -fight muzan -survived At that point zenistu is one of the strongest demon slayer with gyu sanemi tanjiro inosuke rengoku and of course yoruishi and he doesn’t have the marque or the power to see through nor a red blade meaning he was not at his full potential

Kaigaku is not as strong as gyutaro because demons become stronger as they age. Gyutaro was alive for 113 years whereas kaigaku was recently made a demon. But like kaigaku is definitely stronger than daki because zenitsu had to make an entire new form of thunder breathing to take down kaigaku.

Yep, he is just a new demon, but still, an upper moon. Which means he is at least stronger than Enmu.
