I go into detail on how to place tangles to make a good overall composition in my video - Composition … ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4BkvTya_6Mc.html Drawing auras comes better with practice. I find that if It helps if I follow the line I drew previously with my eyes instead of the line I’m drawing.

Hi Tracy. I've been away from zentangling for maybe 2 years (I'm a beginner and never really did a lot of it), and watching your video here has inspired me to pick up my pens again. Your talking through the instructions is the perfect cadence, the background music is just the right volume, not overpowering, and it's always nice to hear an Aussie accent :). Those are 7 great tips, worthwhile following. Thanks so much! Diane.

Hi Tracy, I'm fairly new to tangling (just a few months in) and I am so excited to have just found your amazing RU-vid channel! So far, your channel is the best one I've found to help me along my Zentangle learning journey! You are an excellent teacher! I just subscribed to your channel, am planning to watch every Zentangle video you have made, and I hope that you are still making new videos. Shading was one of my greatest tangling challenges until watching this tutorial. Your 7 tips are extremely helpful and your instructional method is wonderful. At the moment, another big challenge I'm dealing with is how to fit patterns I have learned within strings of different sizes and shapes. Thanks again for all you do!

Great video, Tracey Anne! I thought you broke everything down really well. I particularly liked your comparison of various experiments at the end. It was great to see some other options. I, too, liked your “original” option best, but the others were interesting as well. I’m working on a proposal for a therapeutic tangling group, and one of my lessons is planned to focus on the shading, so watching your breakdown and tips has been especially helpful!

I am new to Zentangle. I like it but find it a tiny bit intimidating. My challenge is knowing which patterns go together to make a good over all drawing. Also some of the patterns are a bit complicated any easy way to break them down?
@TracyAnneWilkinson
@TracyAnneWilkinson 2 года назад
Some patterns are easier than others. Take it one step at a time. Following tutorials will help. If you go to the website tanglepatterns.com/ you will find a whole heap of patterns and a link to their step out. A step out is a diagram which shows the steps to creating a pattern. Practice doing some of these patterns starting with the easier ones. I found that following someone else helped in the beginning. Once you become more confident you will start to have a go at putting the patterns together.

Hi Christine, I did put out another video specifically on shading ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zH_cXrSKKu0.html . There is actually no right or wrong way to shade Zentangle art. Play with different ways of shading. If you go to my RU-vid channel and look for the videos that are just black and white you will see how I shade different tangles. I will keep in mind your request for future videos. Good luck! Relax, and most importantly have fun! ❤️

I just found your channel and subscribed. I am new to Zentangle, so the tips and examples were very helpful. So far, my biggest problem has been trying to combine multiples of one Zentangle pattern on one tile. After I add several of the patterns, I get confused where one ends and another begins, if that makes any sense.
@TracyAnneWilkinson
@TracyAnneWilkinson 3 года назад
Using a string helps. Drawing a pencil shape to divide your tile into specific areas gives you a guide to where to place your tangles. Follow along with a few tutorials until you get the hang of different types of compositions. This will give you more confidence. The main thing is have fun!

Thank you very much for this video. My take home was the difference between dark and light shading. I struggle with shading and coloring too. I like my tangle with a bit of color and go with my instinct without any rule to follow. Are their rules to color a tangle?
@TracyAnneWilkinson
@TracyAnneWilkinson 2 года назад
Thanks Asha! There aren’t any rules about colour but there are different techniques you can use to get different effects. I use colour in most of my videos using a variety of different mediums. These include watercolours, watercolour pencils, coloured pencils, inktense pencils, alcohol markers, Tombows and pastel pencils.

My challenge with zentangle is how to move from copying to creativity.
@TracyAnneWilkinson
@TracyAnneWilkinson 4 года назад
Glennys Weiss it will come eventually. Keep copying and practicing. Try some challenges. Eni Oken has a wonderful free app called art raffle. You uncover random tangles and challenge yourself to use only these in your creation. I did another video called ‘finding inspiration’ where I use the spinner from one of Zentangle’s project pack. There are lots of Facebook groups that offer challenges. Or simply visit tanglepatterns.com, pick a few patterns and challenge yourself to use these in a composition. The main thing is to enjoy what you do. If you are getting pleasure in creating, even if it is copying then there is no harm in that.

@TracyAnneWilkinson

it just takes practice. Try drawing auras on a pice of paper or sketch book. As you draw each aura, focus your eyes on the line you are echoing instead of the line you are drawing. Hope that helps!
