Great video! You are so calm in your approach. You calm my spirit! Job well done👏🏽 I’m so happy for you! I have given up meat for months at a time & I always go back. Carbs are vilified because they spike your blood sugar levels. I’m no longer cutting out groups of foods but I stay away from processed meats & carbs. I don’t ever think I’ll give up potatoes but I prepare them without the oil & fat. When you are a vegan, carbs are front & center. I give you so much credit for preparing those nutritious meals. Your pictures are beautiful & show your journey perfectly! I’m so happy for you. You look so confident in your recent pictures! You look happy! Thank you for sharing! I truly enjoyed this video😊

Thank you so much for your kind words and support! ❤️ I’m so glad my approach brings you a sense of calm. I completely understand the struggle of giving up meat and carbs, it can be tough, especially when carbs are often misunderstood. I love that you’ve found a balance that works for you by staying away from processed options while still enjoying whole foods like potatoes. And you’re right, carbs are a huge part of a vegan diet, but it’s all about finding nutritious ways to include them. Thank you for noticing my journey through the pictures; it’s been a process, and I’m grateful to feel confident and happy where I am now. I appreciate you being here and sharing in this journey with me. Sending you lots of positivity, and I’m so happy you enjoyed the video! ❤️❤️❤️

Great question!! I paused the video to answer because I know I’ll forget. I’m no expert but my daughter is a type 1 diabetic, so I know a thing or two about blood sugars. 😉 Basically carbs raise blood sugars; if you’re diabetic, pre diabetic or even just insulin sensitive, those rises in blood sugar are hard on your body. The reason it’s hard is because too much carbs raise our insulin levels and that increase in insulin tells our body to store fat instead of burning it. When your pancreas is working as it should, and you’re not abusing it by overloading it with carbs, then it will release the perfect amount of insulin to cover the carbs you’re eating which will then in turn burn those carbs for energy instead of storing it as fat. Hope that makes sense!
@simply_taisha
@simply_taisha 16 дней назад
@@2.0mommy It does! Doing it for medical reasons makes total sense. I’m learning about these things. When I was in the pre diabetic range, all of the junk food and high sugar snacks that I used to eat were probably the cause. 🤦🏾‍♀️
@kmwanjabala
@kmwanjabala 15 дней назад
This is a great explanation. I'm insulin sensitive so even "healthy carbs" like fruit, oatmeal, brown rice, sweet potatoes don't work for me. I can get away with having it 1-2x per week. I spent years following diet plans that included complex carbs but the scale wasn't budging. Finally went to an endocrinologist and he confirmed the insulin issue. Add to that, gluten intolerance which causes inflammation that causes water retention and chaos in the gut.

Great video and big congrats on your progress! Love your focus on building muscle strength and mass. On the carb question-For me, I have reduced refined carbs to help while I improve my insulin resistance, mitochondrial health and gut microbiome health. I still get 100-120 gr of carbs a day- but all from non starchy veggies,,,, and I eat a ridiculous amount of veg! I avoid breads, pasta, rices, most grains and definitely any UPF carbs or added sugars. For my body right now, any refined carbs spike my insulin and kick start a wicked cycle of insulin spikes and food cravings that border on obsessive and addictive behaviours. For instance, if I ate a bowl of oatmeal right now, I would get knocked out with fatigue, aches and pain, joint stiffness, bloating and headaches. As my health continues to improve I will reintroduce complex, plant based, unrefined carbs back onto my diet gradually.

It sounds like you’ve found a great balance that works for your body while focusing on improving insulin resistance and overall health. I love that you’re still getting plenty of carbs from non starchy veggies. Such a smart way to fuel your body while avoiding those insulin spikes. Also, just want to add that even carbs from non processed foods (complex carbs) can raise blood sugar. For example, my daughter’s blood sugar will spike if she’s eating healthy things like corn, fruit,potatoes, peas anything made with flour etc. Now the spike will happen much slower than if she consumed carbs from a processed food (simple carbs) but it will still happen. So that’s why people who really want to control their blood sugar will avoid even healthy, complex carbs. 😊
@simply_taisha
@simply_taisha 16 дней назад
@@2.0mommy That makes a lot of sense! ❤️❤️ I’m sorry that she goes through that. I knew someone would be able to explain it to me. Side note: I know a few people that don’t eat carbs because they say they lose weight faster that way so I just didn’t understand how. They would typically end up eating a bunch whenever they went a long time with restricting them.
@Cofiafitat40
@Cofiafitat40 16 дней назад
Thanks for the update, do you plan to stay at the 5 forever? Now that you’re at 130 have you increased your calories? Or plan to? What I’ve seen and read is that the carbs turn to sugar which affects those with issues with blood sugar. The extra sugar that doesn’t get processed turns to fat in the body and that’s hard to burn if we are constantly taking in too much sugar(carbs) it’s a viscous cycle, eat sugar/ carbs don’t process them all and then store them and can’t burn storages of fat because we are taking in more than the body can process.
@simply_taisha

@@Cofiafitat40 Hey, Cofia! I plan to stay on forever! I was initially eating an average of 1500 calories a day. Then I increased the range from 1500 to 1700. I’m currently shooting for 1800. If I continue to lose weight, I’ll increase my calories to 2000 per day. Hopefully I’ll be in to see a dietitian before this year ends for guidance. Also thank you for answering. I know I could’ve googled it but I’d much rather hear it from people who practice that way of eating. ❤️❤️❤️

I’ve tried clinical weight loss programs and diets since the age of 11 years old. I’ve followed recommended carb servings and all. I did not start to lose weight until I was an adult and tried keto. While that diet was a bit too restrictive for me I went on to eat carbs maybe a few days a week and even then only a small amount. My body just doesn’t agree with them and it heavily hinders my progress. Living low carb I’m no longer prediabetic, cholesterol is down and I just feel great all around. Carbs affect everyone differently. My sister can eat nothing BUT carbs and will stay small as a stick and has never received any health diagnoses. And to be clear I’m talking a whole foods diet. Carbs that come from whole grains, sweet potatoes, etc. Not any processed food or junk food like chips and sweets.

@@KelliBJackson Thank you for sharing your experience, Kelli! ❤️ It’s so true, everyone’s body responds to carbs differently. It’s amazing that you found what works for you and have seen such positive changes in your health! It’s all about finding the right balance for your body, and it sounds like you’ve done just that. The reason I eat a diet lower in fat is because of my gallbladder which thankfully hasn’t flared up since I changed my diet. ❤️
