As a scotsman, I watched in shock and horror on 9/11 from 3000 miles away. I remember my collegue at work saying, when the news broke america was under attack, "So this is how world war 3 starts". None of us said anything.. we all just stood there and silently agreed. We all expected whoever had done this, americas gonna NUKE their ass. Little could we anticipate the complexity of it. One day I will visit New York, its on my to-do list and Ill go to ground zero, bow my head and pay my respects. If you can call it the 9/11 trilogy, I personally think United 93, World Trade Centre & Zero Dark Thirty are the go to films. Its a definative start, middle & end between the 3 of them. George Bush Jr said it best, "America will have no greater ally than the United Kingdom" We stand together, always. Respect from 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The SEAL TEAM show does a pretty good job with the NVD they do the filming with. Some of the footage in this one is actually TOO bright for the lighting conditions. I've got just over 1500 flight hours on low and high light (the few days each month of the full moon), and having the scintillation spots and the one or two burnt-out tubes is very accurate. IR designators and floods are very realistic. I've used PEQ-15s on my rifle and IZLIDs on the crew weapons (240 or .50 cal) and some give you just the dot and some give you the entire beam depending on the strength. There's almost nothing quite as cool as hanging out the side or the tail of an aircraft on a machine gun with a laser that goes further than the distance the tracers will burn out. Best job I ever had.

FYI - BJ asked how long it had been while the special forces team had been in Bin Laden's compound. I'm pretty sure it was in real time, so the amount of time you see in the film from when they land in the helicopter to when they get back on the helicopter is the amount of time it took in real life to carry out the operation. 20minutes I believe.

Im so glad you reacted to this movie, it's brilliant. They got a couple of details wrong (the crowd is shouting in Arabic, nobody speaks Arabic here, they speak Urdu and English 😂 - and Cake IS a very common thing to give. There are many cake shops here) - but the main depictions (at the time) were accurate. For the record Pakistan is now a very safe and beautiful country. Two books with accounts of personal experiences of being in NY on 9/11: "Convictions" by then USADA John Kroger, who was called in to be part of the response team, and taped a hand lettered sign on his wind sheild so he wouldn't get shot coming in. Also, "Homer's Odyssey" by Gwen Cooper, who lived just a few blocks from the twin towers, and went through several days of anguish trying to get through the security cordon to rescue her cats. The woman in the movie represents hundreds of different analysts, investigators and field agents whose compiled work aggregates with the singular character represented in the movie. The person who extracted the intelligence about Abu Ahmed was not the same person who identified Bin Ladens body was not the same person who identified the Compound was not the same person who was etc etc etc......but it is artistic license and a very effective movie.
@manutgop
@manutgop 8 месяцев назад
@@TangieTown81that's the main reason that I have a problem with movies like this. The artistic license in creating composite characters like the one played by Jessica Chastain is necessary to protect the identities of the real people and to fit the broad outlines of the story into a movie format. But there should be more of a disclaimer attached that tells people that this is not the true story of what happened. People watch movies like this and think they're watching a documentary. They think they know the real story of what happened and will never read any more about it.

To an Islamic terrorist - who likely grew up listening to no music at all, since music is prohibited in Islam - hearing heavy metal music for the first time would be traumatising enough. But then having to listen to it blasted in your ears for hours on end with very little sleep, it is an effective torture method - which is why it was often used by the CIA during the war on terror.

When I was a child in grade school, growing up in the 70's, I was as rambunctious as any kid in those days. I grew up on a farm and we would climb up in a tree, or the hay loft of our barn. We would dare each other to jump... each jump we would go a little bit higher... I'm shocked I never broke anything. But right before we jumped, we would yell "Geronimo!" We don't know why we did this, except they did it on TV. It gave us the courage to jump, no matter what the danger. It turns out that this started in World War II when the U.S. Army was training the very first airborne units. The night before their first jump, their instructor told the guys that... "You would be so scared, jumping out of a plane for the first time, that you'll forget your name... so when you get to the door, you yell Geronimo." And that is how the tradition began. Geronimo was an Apache warrior from what is now Texas. He fought both Mexico and the United States as both countries encroached into traditional Apache territory (Modern day Texas, New Mexico, and parts of southern Oklahoma) Geronimo was one of the most fierce, most brave of all the Native peoples fighting for his people. So yelling his name is both a sign of respect and a way to give you courage. I had forgotten all of this until watching this movie. When the Seal Team 6 confirmed that they had actually killed THE Osama Bin Laden, they already had a preplanned code word.... "For God and Country... Geronimo!" I instantly knew what context it meant, and a flood of emotions swept over me that I still cannot explain to this day. Great acting, honest story telling... as honest as a movie can get... telling the tale of how very hard it was to track do the man responsible for 9/11, and the focus, determination, and sacrifice for all those involved. Great reactions as always!

Your reaction to this movie is different from others I have seen. Because you know the circumstances your focus is so much more intense. Loved it, Crazy how she went from covering her eyes at the beginning to nudging for a second hard punch. "you lie to me I hurt you"

I was serving previous to 9/11, but watched it happen as everyone else did live on TV ... My entire Career/life after that point was Bin Laden focused. It was our mission. I did my service in the sandbox and after I came home it wasnt long after that Our night was interrupted by the greatest news we could have .. We got him! Will never forget.

I remember that day, more importantly because it was on my birthday. They got USA enemy number one, on my birthday. And the news broadcasts that followed. The constant chants of “USA USA!!!” It still makes me emotional to this day. Everyone was American that day. No division between party lines, just Americans celebrating

Asia was just pissed because the jump scares didn't allow her to get the hand goggles ready and to prep for the scares. :) Also the helicopter didn't mess up. It got into it's own recycled air which doesn't produce lift well. Lift is what keeps aircraft in the air. The helicopter either got into a vortex ring state (VRS) or something called "settling with power". As in the pilot didn't reduce the lift he is commanding and can even greatly increase what he is asking of the helicopter but it lost lift anyways hence the crash. When this went down it happened a LOT faster than what you see on the screen. It makes perfect sense though because if they showed it at real speed you'd have to watch it over and over again just to understand what is going on. It wouldn't have been entertaining but confusing to the audience and the film makers don't want to confuse people. The key to something like this is speed of violence. The longer you take to clear the place out the more time they have to set up a defense or get weapons. You catch them with their pants down and do it fast you can get missions like this where all of the good guys go home and the bad guys don't.

You know when i first this and even now seeing with you guys was so surreal and mind numbing knowing that this really happened, knowing what it meant, what it stood for. Bj, you hit the nail on the head.....she found her needle. I remember this story unfolding and the world got the news...it was incredible...great reaction guys as always keep it up. My heart goes to our military, all the first responders and civilians that risked and gave their lives during this whole ordeal...not too mention every single victim and their families

I didn't realize that Chris Pratt was one of the SEALs the first time I saw this movie. Granted he was most well known for playing Andy on Parks and Rec at the time. Mike Colter was also one of the SEALs, he played Netflix Luke Cage and live-action Spartan Locke (appearance only for Halo 5).

BJ that scene with the helicopters happened because that is when we found out that we has stealth copters and the ONLY reason we did is because one crashed. I guarantee if it hadn't crashed they would have said that they used regular UH-60's or blackhawk helicopters!

As someone whos done a lot of personal research on what happens at the end - yes that helicopter crash was not intended. I forget the technical term of what happened but there was something with the literal air that night that caused it to crash in the courtyard. Something like a warm air pocket/funnel that spun up and messed with the rotors then it crashed. Supposedly one of the guys on the ground was very close to the impact and almost got clipped. What they also don't show is when they're carrying the body out to the chopper that's taking them away, one of the guys was real short (like under 5'9) and kept tripping and falling because the field was farmed and they were in a rush before the Pakistanis could respond to get in and get home. The other guy on the end of the body bag was much, much taller.

My husband came out of the war with ptsd. The amount of ptsd interrogators must have is incomprehensible. We always say we can't even imagine the chemical imbalance caused to the brain. My husband can't watch this movie. I have watched it many times. It's so good. Very well done film. If you want to watch more films about 9/11, I highly suggest United 93 and World Trade Center (about the firefighters who were trapped under the rubble).

The Benghazi attack had nothing to do with 9/11. And it's another mess of a movie directed by "blow up everything in sight", Michael Bay. It's rather cartoonish and doesn't even come close to depicting the actual events of that fateful incident.
