I'm not hard to please and I'm aware bad apples happen... no big deal. I just don't prefer to do business their way. Had a polite customer called me with a failed product and was willing to give my product another chance I would JUMP at the opportunity to keep them as a customer... IF I had confidence in my product. If I knew my product was hit and miss I would refund them the way they paid (cc, check, ect) or better yet improve my product. In this case a Visa gift card is my best case scenario... if they approve my claim. Just shady business in my opinion.
@GanderFlight
@GanderFlight 3 года назад
Most manufacturers would replace the item under warranty by sending you a replacement item. Instead they're sending you a gift card that (if the amount is enough to purchase the exact product again) allows you to buy another product however you want OR to use the money to purchase one of their competitors items. I'm genuinely curious, what is shady about this practice? I'd actually prefer it because if I had a failure of a product and no longer wished to use it a replacement item would be exactly NOT what I was looking for.
@WanderingWeekends

@@GanderFlight I understand your point. My point is I don't want the hassle of looking for another product. Give an option maybe? Just not how I would do business. Take care of your customers. On that note they've approved my claim for $29.95 which is the lowest price they've ever sold for. If I wanted to replace with another 50ft zero-G it would cost me $36.95 (add shipping if you aren't a Prime member) Research is done and I'll be moving to this... amzn.to/3uMfXfZ Time will tell on this one...

@@WanderingWeekends I think you're spot on with the best solution being to give the customer an option. On the claim amount, I did notice on their warranty page that if you don't provide a receipt that the refund will be for the lowest price currently available. Now that, I disagree with - the amount should be enough to cover getting a replacement to my door at the time of the warranty claim - receipt or not. I'm interested to see after this season what your thoughts are on the new hose! :)

As an Amazon affiliate, didn't you purchase the hose from Amazon? You are aware you can go through your purchase history and reprint the receipt. Also all hoses will stain and can have mold in them. Just it is much more visible on a white background. That's why we always make the last 4 feet filtered. We put a filter on at the tap and a high filtration cartridge just before it enters the trailer.

A very informative video with good insight, it shouldn't be perceived as a negative one. I use the zero G as my extension, if the hose on my power reel is not long enough, its the white camco RV/Marine hose. As its on a reel, so its no fuss. I always sanitize my hoses when I sanitize my fresh water system. I do it every 3-4 months, always prior to storage and before use after storage. I use an inline filter changed every 90 days and a water softener tank. The black tank flush hose is an off brand something or other, flex hose, Best Choice I believe. I have had good service from my use of the Zero G hose, although it sees limited use. The orange color staining is iron, I believe reverse osmosis, deionization process or water softener is what removes iron. I may be incorrect, but I don't believe any filter can remove it.

I've been using Zero-G hoses on our camper. The first one I bought is the one we normally still use even after 5 years. I have a longer one in case I need it. I don't think the staining and mold inside are any different than you would see inside a regular hose or water pipe in use for a water system today. I might sanitize mine every so often now that you've gotten me thinking about it, but I'll continue to use my Zero-G hose until it fails. I feel that the benefits are still there and the downsides you point out will exist in any hose anyway. Thanks for the video!

In a pinch I purchased one of the white RV hoses from Walmart. As soon as I hooked it up and turned on the water the hose came separated from the end. I had to run back to the store on a busy Friday evening to exchange it. I also have a 25 ft Zero-G hose and haven’t had any problems with it. Had it over 2.5 years.

I had two Zero Gs. One for drinking water the other for sewer clean out. The drinking water hose leaked at the housing on the 2nd trip out. Had to run to Wally World to get a new RV/Marine hose. Will probably use it until something happens to it. Thanks for showing the inside. I've been thinking about which end of the water system to keep my filter. I currently have it connected to my regulater which is connected to water source. Now I'm thinking about putting it on the other end of the hose right before it goes into the RV. Great videos. Keep them up. Good luck on finding the Holy Grail of hoses.

Thanks for the update! I have a zero-G hose but recently have switched to the Camco EvoFlex. I just like the Camco product better. And in attempt to minimize getting any nasty stuff from the campground spigot I arrange things in this order; pressure regulator -> Camco hose (with quick connects) -> Clearsource 2 stage RV water filters -> then a very short (2') hose into the RV inlet. Have never had questionable water yet.

Love the ZeroG. We have a 25 footer and a 50 footer. Love the convenience, portability and usability. Also have a third 50 footer that I use for utility purposes. We also have 2 of the blue Camco insulated/heated hoses (@ 20-25 ft each). Have had a problem with an end on one of the Camco hoses. The end literally separated and came apart. It flooded our 5th wheel’s basement storage compartment for hours before we discovered it. Fun! Fun! (But I digress) As for the Zero G - Sounds to me like the test for you should be whether or not they stand by their warranty. Yes, it failed; but that is what the warranty is for. I would still keep recommending the Zero G ... unless they don’t stand by their warranty. Then, if they don’t, you would need to determine whether you got enough value out of it to use it (essentially) without a warranty.

I’ve used Zero-g for several years, at home and on the RV. I always use a pressure regulator on all faucet ends at both places. I haven’t seen an RV hose that won’t mold so I run the water through a filter at the RV end. Water through the RV is not for drinking or cooking, only water through the Berkey is for that. The first two RV’s we owned I had access to the freshwater tank. I installed deck openings on top of both with screw tops. You wouldn’t believe the mold that grew on the inside top service. In hot weather I checked the tank monthly and usually found it needed cleaning with a brush and Clorox water. If you sanitizing your tank by filling it with dilute Clorox water your going to miss where the mold is growing, so if you don’t have access to inside, fill with Clorox water and drive around getting it to slosh onto the top service. Sanitize your tank twice as much as you think it needs it. The mold in your hose is the least of your worries. You wouldn’t believe the number of RVers that want to argue that the filter should go on the faucet to keep your hose clean. My response is if I’m putting filtered water into my tank it shouldn’t need sanitized. Anyway, I always lower hose pressure and have yet to have one fail, and I have five Zero-G hoses that I use on a regular bases.

Had mine going on a year with e 5th wheel and another at home two 25’ers linked in the sun all day. No issues love then. Inside is probably similar but any hose will do that in my opinion. Filter is a VERY good idea and like other have stated we don’t usually drink out of the faucet in the RV bottled water is the norm.

I ordered a pair of the Zero-G ones a month or so ago and they just came arrived. We have not used them yet, but now my enthusiasm is curbed a bit. I am not real surprised at the inside. The more gray end is closer to the filter, which is probably a charcoal type filter. Maybe that is why it is a bit gray. (I always flush a new filter before hooking it up to the hose.) It is a bit perplexing that the one end is gray and the other is more rust colored (common in well water pumps). Keep us posted! Thanks!

I’ve got two 25’ and one 50’ Zero G for the last 2-3 years, love em. Couple of times a year I put some Clorox and shake them up. Also I use a water filter at faucet. Pretty sure you don’t want to look inside any water pipe. Be interesting to see what the new water hose is you get.

Wow, so many comments about hoses failing? I don't have a Zero G, but I have about 15 different hoses we use around home... including several green flexzilla hoses. I can't recall any hoses "failing" unless they were just really old. I don't buy cheap hoses any more because life is stressful enough already. Cheap hoses are terrible to use. But still, mine never failed... I just got tired of fighting with them. BTW, I have a 100' flexzilla that's at least 10 years old... abused, faded, etc but still works fine. That's another vote for "green". I considered getting a Zero G to keep in the RV.... but I will take a pass for now. Thanks for the heads up

My 25ft Zero-G broke after using it to water my backyard for about a month. Mine shredded at the male fitting end as well, just popped right out! I submitted a claim but haven’t heard anything from them. Went to the garage and got out my trusty heavy rubber hose. More of a pain to use and store, but with brass fittings and a seemingly invincible build, I’m convinced these flexy hoses aren’t worth the hassle. Also shady I haven’t even heard from the company yet after two weeks time. Shame. We’ll see how long my 50ft lasts, but my rubber one is on backup in case.

I often see people connecting both ends of their hose together at the end of a trip. I think to keep the insides of it clean. Doing this creates the perfect environment for mold and mildew to grow. I just drain my hose well and roll it loosely. Thanks for the video! I also have leaking ends on my Zero hose. I sure do like the compactness of it.

Thanks on a great video. I bought a 25` ZeroG hose and loved how easy it was to coil up and put away. After using it to wash the RV I realized how little water actually came out. The ID is very small and greatly restricted the flow. I am now using a flexzilla 5/8" dia hose and it is night and day better for flow and yes it is also drinking water safe. I also think it is easier to coil up even on a cold day. I only wish they made them in colors other then green. I bought a second one for the black tank flush but I had to mark it up with a magic marker to tell which was which.

I bought one in January to use this camping season with our new camper. This weekend we made an overnight trip to a local campground to try things out and it leaked right out of the box. It was coming from the connection itself like it wasn't sealing properly on the spigot. So the hose didn't fail, it just isn't made very well. I had to run home to get the white Valterra hose that came in a starter kit with our new camper. At home I replaced the gasket in the zero-g hose and it seems to have helped but it still leaks some. But only when there isn't demand for water and there is pressure built up. It would work fine to fill my tank I think.

So I have a zero-G that I use as a secondary hose for dousing the campfire, clean-up, neighbor control:). I was somewhat suspicious of it for potable water so never used it that way. So far no leaks. On the subject of garden hoses though, I spent a lot of money on one for my wheel-less home and thought nothing of the aluminum fittings rather than brass fittings. Those aluminum fittings are now like they have been welded tight, or I am getting weaker in my old age, I can’t loosen them.

Many companies refund or provide warranty claims with gift cards because most people forget about them or if they have an expiration date, they often expire before the consumer uses it. This is exactly what these companies want because they didn't have to pay out on that "warranty claim" so to speak and saved whatever value that gift card had on it. The shipping is the longest part. 3-5bisiness day UPS by ground , warranty transfers to new unit .

After lots of flushing, testing, it was the 3 year old Zero-G's doing it. The 10 yr old white Camco's were fine. Haven't cut open the Zero's yet, but I assume it was due to "stuff" growing inside. The Zero-G is a great hose for watering the plants on my 20 x 12 patio because it is light weight so the incidence of knocking pots over and breaking plants has decreased notably. It also coils nicely on my hose reel. However, a leak from the collar beneath the threaded end seems to be inevitable, well before the warranty period ends I've owned three Zero-Gs and this always happens. The leak starts small but gets to the point of being a nuisance. And the other problem is the incompatibility between the aluminum threads and brass quick connect fittings. The brass eventually seizes and the connector cannot be removed from the hose.

I use the green Flexzilla. Lighter and much more flexible than the traditional White hoses but certainly not as light or flexible as the zero-G. Was wanting to switch to zero-G to help save space. I use zero g hoses at home ant in the camper. In the end, they are not that expensive. I like the convenience and the easy handling of them. I have a standard white drinking water hose and it’s very cumbersome to handle and store, so it stays put away unless I absolutely need to use it. My home hoses have lasted me years without fail. They are kept outside all year long through the heat and sun of the summer and cold snow and ice in the winter. I have had no problems with them. As far as mold and discoloration inside the hose, you should taken a section of your home water pipe out and look at the inside of that. It’ll blow your mind if you think that hose is bad.

I have had problems with water hoses for years. I finally decided to spend the extra money to buy the Zero G hoses. I have actually bought three of them for use at my house. I have water sprinklers hooked up throughout my yard to keep cats , squirrels and other freeloaders out of my garden and yard. I have had several leaks from the ends of my hoses in the same area that you have. When you find a better hose, please let me know. This is so frustrating. 🤨

I had the same issue with one of mine Zero-G hoses (4-years old), cut off the ends took a photo and in 12 hours I had a Visa card sent to me via digital card. As far as the mold and staining goes, any hose can have that issue, many factors can contribute to that, quality of the water source, storing the hose with water still left in, storing the hose with both ends connected to each other, etc.
@jetdriver
@jetdriver 3 года назад
You’ve had one hose failure. Certainly the mold is disturbing but do you know that other hoses aren’t subject to this? It seems a little premature to swear off the hoses if they have delivered good service to date.
@WanderingWeekends
@WanderingWeekends 3 года назад
My complaint is the destruction of your hose and then best case scenario they send you a Visa gift card which takes weeks to arrive (per their information). Why not offer a simple refund or have some confidence in your product and send another hose. They do not send replacement hoses to customers.

@WanderingWeekends 3 года назад
Also keep in mind we’re weekend campers. While I’ve had the hose about 8 months it’s only been in use around 30 days. Kinda sad.

@@WanderingWeekends I fully understand your frustration. I had a suitcase where the handle failed under warranty recently and before they sent me a brand new suitcase I had to slash open the front with a knife and send them a picture. Certainly the hose should not have failed. However, even the best companies with the best products have things go wrong. There is a bright side to the Visa gift card. If they sent you a brand new hose you’d be stuck with it even if you no longer wanted their product. Or you’d be stuck waiting for the replacement to arrive. This way you can go right out and buy what you want knowing they are sending you the equivalent of cash. As long as the amount actually covers the cost of a replacement and is delivered with reasonable speed I’m personally ok with that policy.

Great review of what's going on inside the hose. I too have been loving the benifits of the zero g, but I also have so much faith in it that I carry a spare (also for those suprise faucets 10ft to the back of the camper). I love the pack ability of them, but it does seem too good to hold up. So far mine have lasted a couple of years, but so has my ragged expandable hose I use for the black tank flush. Interesting, but not surprising. I have had two 100' zero G yard hoses for well over 6 years. No issues, no leaks. About the only thing is the shield color has faded from the Texas heat. What is not surprising is what you find inside the hose, but I wonder what you find inside other hoses? I had a ladder that broke and the manufacturer made me cut the ladder legs before they sent me a replacement ladder. I didn't understand it, but I did it and sent them pictures. I guess they do not want you to sell the old ladder....maybe a liability issue??

That red stain on one end and mold on the other end makes me nervous. I have a couple of the 100' Zero G hoses. I only use them to put water in my fresh tank when at a State Park with a community spigot that is a distance away from our camp site. For regular water hookups at a campground I use a Flexzilla hose. I've had it for several years and I've had no issues with it. I guess I'm just overly cautious but each spring as part of my sanitation, I put my hoses in a storage tote, weight them down with an extra patio paver I have and let them soak overnight in a bleach and water mixture. The paver is heavy enough to keep the hoses submerged but not heavy enough to flatten the hose so water can't get in. After watching this video, I might do that a couple times each season.

I have a zero g hose but i only use it for black tank flush so really don't care about the gunk issue inside the hose. For the drinking water I use Camco Tastepure drinking water hose. Hopefully it does not have that gunk you show on the inside of that hose, but I always use a water filter at the "fresh" water tap at my rv site, and then when I run the tap water in my rv I fill a Brita water container and use that to drink from. Maybe I am paranoid, but at least there are 2 layers of protection. I attach the water filter at the water source, then run the tastepure hose to the rv fresh water inlet. After watching your video perhaps I should attach the water filter right at the connection to the fresh water inlet at the rv, then at least it may filter anything collected in the hose before the water enters the fresh water inlet of the rv ?
