I’ve been using zero water filter for 18 months, I use the 10litre countertop unit. If you use the water to cook with it will never last 3 months. I live on my own and replace the filters every 6-7 weeks. The best thing about using a zero filter is it pulls the chlorine out, which kills the healthful bacteria in our guts.

I saw a comment from someone who used 2 Zerowater pitchers, allows the filter on pitcher #1 to reach 18-30, then puts the filter from pitcher #2 (which has been used to "refilter" water that went through pitcher #1 first) into pitcher #1. He said that meant he uses far fewer filters per year this way! That is what I am going to do - 20 cup Zerowater pitcher on my kitchen counter, then that filtered water will go into the reservoir of a 10-cup Zerowater filter in my fridge (I love COLD water, I live in quite a hot climate). My tap water shows about 315 ppm on the meter, I have never used it to drink here, but even the supposed spring water I buy for almost $1 a gallon shows 174 ppm! And after filtering the tap water, it is 0, just as the advertising says. Amazing.

A good trick is to use a cheaper faucet mounted filter as a pre-filter when filling the zero water jug. This will greatly increase the lifespan of the zero water filters.
@crenshaw46

Exactly. I bought a Brita pitcher when it was on sale for like 10$. And since you can get like 6 Brita filters for like $4.50 a piece, I filter my water through Brita filter first, then filter it again through my expensive zerowater filters. Makes it last longer AND you get all that chloroform and fluoride out of your water.
@user-el8lb8rr1z
@user-el8lb8rr1z 9 месяцев назад
It may or may not. In my case, I use Brita-brand faucet filter on my tab, and TDS reads 67 with the faucet filter, while the raw water reads 56 (without the faucet filter). And the filter is still in its active lifespan. I've decided not to use Brita system anymore in the future. Make sure that if the suggested strategy works for your particular situation before settling on the otherwise sensible conjecture.

You are spot on about the minerals in water, they are a very insignificant dietary source. I get my water from a deep well and have used two of the different brands of water filters over the years and will say that Zero Water is by far the best filter, although it doesn't last as long as the others, but I started using my old Brita water pitcher to pre filter water before running it through the Zero pitcher, and it more than triples the lifespan of the Zero filters.

Thanks for this, I suffer from quite a few health issues including problems with my kidneys and bladder. After doing some research it turns out these issues are (among other things) caused by calcification and a lot of it could be from tap water especially in hard water areas. Upon finding this out a lot of things started to make sense and so I'm now in the market for a water filter! I was looking at the Brita systems and being in the UK myself it seems to be the top selling brand. I looked for reviews on RU-vid and came across one from the US that reviewed among others Brita and Zero Water. The thing that stood out to me is that all the filter systems produced almost the same TDS (some even more) than unfiltered water except Zero Water that produced ZERO! I immediately looked on Amazon to see if it and extra filters were available in the UK and thankfully they are so I then went on to RU-vid again to look for reviews on Zero Water expecting to find a bunch of reviews from the US but to my surprise YOURS was the first one I came across and has helped me make my decision to purchase one. I think I'll need to replace the filter sooner than you however being on the South coast but at least I know they are available here!

The fish smell comes from heat and sunlight exposure to the filter. You can do an easy test by leaving it in direct sunlight and see the result. Simply keep it away from sunlight and ensure it doesn't get exposed to high temps. The anion exchange resin releases trimethylamine, which is the fish smell people are experiencing.

Thirty or forty years ago I worked for a few semiconductor companies, twice in maintenance working on the D.I. Water Pad. I remember being told not to drink the D.I. water because it would leach minerals -- it wasn't framed as you wouldn't get needed minerals, but rather that it would do damage as it passed through your system. I have no idea whether that's still, or ever was, a real concern. I enjoy two popular purified bottled water brands, and know they add a mixture of minerals back in for flavor. You've answered my question -- the Zero Water tastes good. Thank you!

If water smells like fish, it's probably because you kept the water in direct sun, and because you don't clean the container once a week. Even bottle water can develop bacteria if you left it in the sun after opening it once. Those filters are not vacuum sealed so it's possible to get some bacteria there sooner or later if you don't wash the container.

I have one of these. I use it to clean the water from the tap that I use in my humidifier. I have a lot of calcium in my tap water and it makes a mess out of the humidifier after 3 months. So I bought this. It works absolutely great for this purpose. No calcium buildup in my humidifier. But after 4 weeks or so the filter builds up a bio load. The water takes on nasty smells. And the humidifier pumps that nasty smell out into the room. I have to add bleach to the water then to kill the bacteria to get rid of the smell. No way would I drink that water. I had it tested in a lab. Turns out it is E coli bacteria. I changed out the filter with a new one. Will see if it happens again. This was the filter that came inside the pitcher when bought brand new. I also cleaned the entire pitcher with bleach before I opened the new filter for use. To prevent any spread of E coli from the previous filter to the new one. It is strange. The odor it made. I thought it smelled like dog urine. My wife said like a drowned rat. My kids said it was fishy smell. It was very strong. There is no doubt if this happens that you have a bad odor.

I know you made this video a while back but I hope this is still relevant. Your tap water coming in at around 50 or 60 TDS to start with plays a Massive part in the fact that your filter is still going strong after 3 months. I, on the other hand have horrible tap water here. My tap water comes in at between 300 to 330 TDS to start out. And my ZeroWater filters only last me around 3 weeks before the meter shows 6 and I'm forced to change so the water doesn't taste bad again. The facts are that everyone's tap water is different. Even ZeroWater states this on their inner packaging. In my area, I am only expected to get about 15 gallons of clean water out of 1 filter before having to change it and that estimate from ZeroWater seems pretty spot on. So of course your filter is still going strong after 3 months of daily usage. It says exactly that on the ZeroWater inner packaging! You're expected to get 40+ gallons of filtration from your filter based on their estimates. That being said, I LOVE my ZeroWater filter but I seriously hate how expensive the replacement filters are.

Or at least damage our good bacteria in our gut by unintentional and misleading information in the product's name discribing what it is, but not truely what it does. I always read what product do as the product name can be misleading but the danger exists for those that do not research product info and to the ignorant consumer, where common sence is uncommon, this misconception can be a serious problem. And I agree with Za Toby's answer that if you work out alot that our bodies depleat minerals not found in Zero Water that has the same quality as distilled water. I use a powdered drink mix that I add to my filtered Zero Water that has both B vitamins and minerals to promote rehydration, and replace residual amounts of sodium loss found in sport drinks.

I've had a Zerowater pitcher for 6 months. On the positive side, when using this filter I don't have to descale my tea kettle at all. It removes all mineral particles. However, I have gone through 4 filters in 6 months. I suppose how fast you go through filters depends on what the water you put in it is like, but the city water supply I'm on is not that bad. Other filter brands I've used have lasted far longer. With one of the filters, the pitcher started smelling like fish after 3 weeks. I'm not sure why, the other filter changes did not smell of fish. I am subscribed to ConsumerLabs, and their review of ZeroWater says that their tests detected a massive amount of microplastics in the filtered water. I don't know if that test was representative of all ZeroWater filters, but it did not make me happy. I bought a box of six filters with the pitchers. As soon as I go through those, I'm getting another type of water pitcher.

Where I live, Coachella valley/Palm Springs area of southern CA, our tap water comes out basically white. If I got a glass of tap water, I'd have to let it sit a full minute for the water to settle and become clear. I purchased the Zero Water to update my Brita as I've always believed our city water to be crap. Upon buying the Zero Water and getting the TDS reader, I wanted to check some different water sources I have available at home currently. My Great Value purified bottle water came out to 13 TDS, not bad; my Brita bring on its last leg and end of its filter life came out to 128 TDS, having seen some readings of other people testing their Brita's I still thought that was pretty good; then I checked my tap water thinking I was going to get 5-600 TDS, I put the TDS reader in and was shocked, to say the least, to see that it only read 123 TDS, less than the Brita even. What?! Well, I don't know why the water is white initially but, at least when it comes to TDS specifically, it's really not bad at all. Still, I'll happily start and continue using my new Zero Water and definitely happy to get rid of my failed Brita. Thanks for a great video. Hopefully it helps to educate the sheeple. 🐑
@Dimeinurear
@Dimeinurear 2 года назад
The whiteness may be just simple air bubbles. If nothing remains on the bottom of the water when it's done, and the whiteness seems to go *up,* then I think it's just air has gotten into the system somewhere. I'm no expert, so please don't take my word for it, but that may mean a pipe has a leak somewhere.
@opcpixie
@opcpixie 2 года назад
@@Dimeinurear I know it's not a pipe, only because that statement is true for every place that I've used/gotten water from in the Coachella Valley. When pulling from a water source hooked up to the local, multi-city, public water district, anyway. There's nothing visual, such as floaters or other deposits, left in the water once it becomes clear. An entire glass gradually changes from white to clear after about a minute, minute and a half. That's for an average 12oz tumbler type glass but as it (whatever 'it' is in there) dissipates, it doesn't noticeably rise like air bubbles would. It seems to just fade away. Hornet, now that I think about it I can't take the air bubbles theory of the table just yet. Although it looks as if the white cloudiness just dissipates, I've noted many times that it always starts from the bottom, working its way upward. Perhaps the particular public water system the valley installed introduces air into the water at the facility. (Now you got my wheels turning...) Where kind of isolated out here. I wouldn't doubt that the water district intentionally introduces air out of necessity so that there's enough water pressure to get the water to the more isolated residential customs (like those in Sky Valley) but, being that I'm in the city, it appears so white because I'm closer to the source of air which still has a good kick behind it as it hasn't lost its steam while traveling yet. Hmmm, man, for 20 years the water being white has always bothered me and made me wary then you come along and bam. I feel like together we're Einstein our something, haha, or, well, you know what I mean. Thanks for that. 😁

@@opcpixieHah, it's weird though.. cuz at my mom's house, ONLY the sink in the basement gets the fizzy water, and ONLY when it's warm. Very strange, but like I said I'm pretty certain it's just air bubbles. Try putting your ear close to it and hearing if you hear a fizzing noise!

If your TDS reader is showing 000 after 3 months of everyday use, then my impression is that you have very clean water. For someone like me with a TDS reading of 350 on average, i’ve had mine for a month, and it’s already showing a reading of 007 Based on this, I do not think that it lasting you three months in general is a good indicator of how good the filter is. I think a better indicator would be if it’s lasting as long as expected. In other words, based on my TDS readings based on my tap water, it’s lasting about as long as I would expect. I can also confirm there are no fish smells or odd or unpleasant odor’s for me either.

Been using a zero water 23 cup dispenser in my fridge for years. They're great, however yes... the fishy smell/taste is a thing. My tap water reads about 209ppm tds on the meter, and after about 3 months or so, I start doing the sniff test when pouring a glass. It all depends on how your tap water is treated, not sure what chemicals it takes, but after they build up in the filter for a while it's all fishy coming out. More odor than taste for a few days, then you can start tasting it. Thats when I change filters, usually around 30ppm on the meter. If I changed the filter at 006 like zero water recommends, I probably would be swapping out perfectly good filters every two weeks. I'll take 20ppm over 200 any day of the week.

Something definitely wrong. I've never had that issue. Either a bad filter or maybe something in your tap doesn't work well with the filter. 114 TDS isn't bad, but it doesn't tell the whole story. Not that I don't trust your local water, but things can happen along the way. Probably just a bad filter and some of the media is leaking. Maybe buy from a different seller next time.

Gist: good point for those thinking it is "bad" to remove the various TDS from drinking water. BUT, the real issue is what comes out of your tap? For example, I'm from the Bay Area of California. The tap water there all comes from the Sierra Nevada mountains and goes through all kinds of processing and chlorine added. I started testing the water with a meter there 30 years ago when I got an aquarium. It was super high in chlorine and had a TDS around 400. I had to use an alternate source for my fish tank there. But here in Oregon, it comes out of the tap with about 25 TDS! Almost no chlorine. So I can use tap water for my aquarium water changes again with a tiny bit of something to remove the chlorine. So check your tap water before going for one of those filter pitcher things. You may or may not need one.

I've been using ZW filters for nearly 10 years now and have mostly positive experience. But what the guy is saying re: their lifespan is simply not true (it cannot be, unless his daily usage is very negligible OR water is pre-filtered by some other filtering systems OR it's surprisingly clean in the first place before getting into ZW filter). In my municipality the TDS reading renders 140ppm (pretty common for the rest of North America). With average daily use of approx 15-20 litters, it gets from 0 (zero) ppm to 5-6ppm in about 3 weeks and starts tasting little acidic (in fact I can sense it when it gets to 2-3ppm so can easily do even without the TDS meter). Hope this sets more realistic expectations...

I was very disappointed. I bought my pitcher expecting to enjoy tasty FISH WATER. But, noooo. The water tastes fresh, clean, and pure! I was mislead by all the reviewers promoting it as a fish water maker. My pet fish are also disappointed, since now I have to go back to drinking their fishbowl water. Seriously though, the ZERO WATER pitcher makes the best tasting water I've ever tried from any other basic home filter system. The only problem is that the drinking water where I live is 500+ppm which causes the filters to have a short lifespan. It's actually less expensive to buy bottled water than buy filters. If a person lives somewhere where the water is 100-200ppm then I think it's the best choice! Great review!!
