Thanks for watching, mere mortals! Sorry for the late post today! I heard that Typhon was breaking free out of Mt. Etna so I had to step away from editing and handle him real quick.Won't happen again! » Sign Up to be notified about the first Mere Mortals drop! meremortals.store «
Solo never needs to apologize. His videos drop when they are meant to drop. Thanks for making all the videos. How I have gotten my children to love stories/mythology as much as I did when I was a kid and still do.
"Please don't strike my house" cracked me up. I really appreciate all the time and effort you put into reading and sharing these stories with us. You do so much leg work/research and then tell it to us in such a fun way that it helps keep us engaged and entertained while educating. Love your videos man.
hey thanks for saying that TerryFedora! 😊 the team and I have a lot of fun researching these stories and by the end of that process I’m always amped with anticipation to share what I learn with you.
If I recall correctly, Athena had serious issues with Arachne showing off the indignities of the gods. Showing Zeus' follies probably isn't going to help your insurance rates 😵💫
@vallen8660 I'm not sure of Hestia having an Egyptian counterpart. I guess the dwarf god Bes could be seen as similar....but not entirely. I've always assumed Hestia stayed on Olympus through the entire ordeal. Furthermore, Hestia is the beating heart of Olympus (the sacred hearth of the gods) I highly doubt she would have fleed Her home. Hell had Zeus not been revived, Hestia may have fought Typhon Herself. Which would be an interesting fight.
@@JonSoloMy cousin wants to be an archeologist thanks to you. They got off of video games, and into visiting lectures and museums. A very happy birthday present for me.
@@illesghost3956 I what are you talking about I was just stating the Olympians god and chthonic God are 2 different groups and Hades is a chthonic God and the Olympians god doesn't want Hades to be apart of their group do to his domain
Heck no, Athena is notorious for hating women the most. Look into the myths of Medusa, Arachne, and the trial involving Elektra's brother. I'd rather have Hestia as the wisest.
Not sure if there’s any mythos in regards to Atlantis that you can cover but it’ll be super sick to watch you go on some deep dive or something based on them
If you wanna get a bit more info on Atlantis, go check out Miniminuteman. Hopefully that helps! Unfortunately, stuff that is linked to Atlantis is also deeply rooted in ra**sm and was used by a certain failed artist with bad taste in facial hair styles.
"Then along came Zesus! He hurled his thunderbolts! He knocked up all the girls in Greece! They're pregnant! And Hades is shaking his head in despair for being labeled 'the bad guy'! Thanks, mouse!' And that's the Gospel Truth!" I couldn't resist and have no regrets! :D
I love these stories, and Jon tells them, I mean just imagine, pause for a second and just imagine the pain and anguish not to mention the inconvenience of having a Sickle removed from Uranus.... on the positive though it makes colonoscopies a lot easier and space flight more filthy than filthy frank
It's true what they say. The bird is the word! Hades would be a fantastic ruler of Olympus. He's sane, rational, and can be reasoned with. Rarely ever gets caught up in personal issues. He'd be more likely to run things and not do terrible to people. Probably keep the other gods from doing it too.
@@auxane_mdb Hades is the oldest son of Cronus and Rhea. Hades is not the oldest child however. The birth order of the sixth children of Cronus and Rhea is (according to Hesiod) Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, Poseidon, and Zeus. Due to the fact that the older five sorta had a second birth reverse birth order is used as well. Homer used reverse birth order calling Zeus the oldest son of Cronus, and Hera declares that she is the oldest daughter.
Seems like birds have a good track record when it comes to winning wars. Also I’d put Hades in charge. Though given that much power might effect how he behaves….
I heard Heaphtus got between Hera and a drunk Zeus who had her in tetters (handcuffs for your ankles) and Zeus threw him down. Cronus at least never did that.
@@johnnycage112after birth making the only thing they knew were the intestines of their jailer and he through his brothers back into prison after freeing them
Hypno put Zeus in a sex nightmare Millon eons....years......n nyx rapes Zeus n have him in a sex dugeun getting drain of all his power till do whatever she tell him
The part about the link between Egyptian gods and the Greeks was fascinating, I would love to hear more about it if there are other links, also loove love love the art on all these episodes
I like the first story, all three were new to me but it was nice to finally learn why Hera never went after Zues for his infidelity. If I were to put someone else in charge of the Greek pantheon I would say diefy Odysseus. I know that doesn't count though, so probably Athena.
I will literally never hear another person talk about history or myths ever again, nobody can keep a video goin with so much energy and charisma as Jon Solo, one of my favourite dudes to hear talk.
I would put Hades in charge since he is the most responsible with Athena, Hestia, Persephone, Promethuis, Thanatos, Hecate and Eros as his council since they are of the nisest, smartest and Just gods
“Cloud-cuckoo-land” lol that sounded like a reference to the Lego movies but that the literal translation. If I were to choose a member of the olympians to replace Zeus… It would be Hestia, because out of all the gods, she values hospitality and order of the home and would maintain such in the cosmic sense. She would be and probably is the one goddess that represents most of the ideals of Ancient Greece. She even receives sacrifice tax from all the sacrifices and if she decided to call off all harth fire, she could literally starve out the others.
While I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, I think it would be interesting from a mythological point of view to see an entire council composed of each Greek deity. Imagine what untold chaos would result from their squabbling.
Yo Jon thanks for all the content. All the myths I've learned here actually helped me with some of my own writing projects. Between you and Google I learned a lot more than I knew before. Maybe later when I can publish my work I could get your input. I'd like to see what you think
You know with the story of Zeus vs Typhon it reminds me that there is a lot of similar stories around the world where there is a God related to the sky versus a Serpent like: - Ra vs. Apep (Egyptian) - Susanoo vs. Yamata no Orochi (Japan) - Thor vs. Jörmungandr (Norse) - Indra vs. Vritra (Indian) - Marduk vs. Tiamat (Babylonian) - Yu the Great vs. Xiangliu (Chinese)
And when he isn't explicitly getting involved with some woman, Zeus still plays a part in problematic things in other myths. Just take a look at the story Hermaphraditus, he only makes an appearance in the last part of the story, but he still manages to ruin someone's life in a way only the gods can really do. On another note, I have suggested Jon do a ranking list of Hellhounds for the Halloween season.
I keep seeing your shirt and thinking of that old RU-vid Balloon Shop Sketch. That CAN’T be what you’re referencing but man, I haven’t thought about Balloon Shop in a hot minute. Also, that one side character we never see that Kevin yells at in Steven Universe.
ngl that part "you kinda cut me off there" freaked me the fuck out i paused the video before it to take a shit and came back and hit play and thats what you said to me
The only other God that i think could rule Olympia justly would have been Hades. Through out mythology, he really was not that bad a seemed to keep his word
I feel like EPIC the Musical is blowing up. So even though ive always loved Greek mythology, Im eating up this kind of content even more. Even reading the Illiad.
I'd probably put Athena in charge. Maybe I'm biased because she-as Minerva-is a symbol of my alma mater University of Louisville. But how can you top a woman who gives her father a splitting headache? And she's a scholar. I don't think you can get much better.
Anyone else notice how much the other gods are chickens, minus Zeus and Athena it seems. I mean Set, Horus and Ra every night fought The god of chaos Apep/Apophis. These greeks gods for all their power seem very chicken whenever some half powerful creature turns up. I do think Zeus was doing all the real heavy lifting and work during the Titan overthrow.
For a God to be Zeus’s replacement on Olympus “Please Don’t strike my house.” I’d go with Heracles. He’d probably keep Hera and the other Gods in line.
If i were to put another Greek god on the throne,I’d probably say Athena just because she’s literally the god of practical reasoning which means she’s actually good at decision making and won’t go around making babies with her grandchildren
Zeus showing Hera the Abyss is how we get her in Ragnarok as an ethereal being in another dimension. Seriously there's so many different versions of The Greek Myths. Apparently Hephiteus was thrown down by Hera for being swarthy and ugly.
Who would I put in charge of the universe instead of Zeus? Either, Gaia(The Mother or Eve) or the Grim Reaper(he exists in both realms, knows everything we do in the present and can forshadow the future) 😎🙏👍
If u think about it since Sonic the Hedgehog was a compilated version of the same story and has greek origin relation...Sonic was rised by an owl(Longclaw) and saves hum from being kidnaped from a clan of echidna...amd in the game Sonic has to save flickies( birds traped in robots) through out his adventures. There's so much more to that story and Sonic just like our history we are finding what's been left out like a historical mad lib. Think about it🤔😅( especially at the end of most games when Sonic is super and all the birds are flying with him after defeating Robonick/ Eggman)
