The cool thing is she actually reflects this mindset when she fights, truly a great fighter, not just in the female division but the ufc in general

I think it's the opposite: she's always been a very disciplined mma fighter. Her lacking was really in the basics, with wrestling and BJJ being her weaker points. Shea's always a very mentally & physically strong person, with superb athleticism, power, and mobility, with powerful strikes. But those things obviously aren't always enough, when you're fighting another elite fight (with comparable skills) who has better tactics, like Rose. Rose won due to her better tactics (which allowed her to eke out a win in the second fight and which also allow her to out maneuver and suprise Zhang in their first fight with that out of nowhere kick). I have always felt Zhang needed some Western coaches --- who are more experienced in dealing with both elite fighters and the UFC --- to add to her core Chinese coaching staff.... because almost entirely the elite fighters she'd face are from the West (Europe, North America, South America, etc), not from Asia. Few, if any, of her Chinese/Asian coaches had experience fighting as former elite fighters or trainers having trained other elite Western fighters previously. THAT lacking was not, is not insignificant... It impacted Zhang's game planning. Very few athletes could just "wing it" and win the most important contests of their lives; MOST need elite coaches who design good fighting strategies and tactics... so a good fighter could maximize his or her skills, at the various crucial points, where a tiny wrong decision or wrong move could cost you the fight, even if skill for skill you're just as good as your opponent or even better...

I think the translator added the brick and wall analogy. I speak a bit of Chinese and the direct translation is more like "no champion wins forever" and about doing the small things right every day. The translator changed quite a bit of it.

Carla couldnt take down Joanna in their fight. She will get murdered by Zhang and she knows it. It would not surprise me if she pulled out of the fight.

Very philosophical, I think it's an acceptance to her first defeat to Rose where she didn't accept it at first. The second time she was defeated, she readily accepted and then went on to work even harder. It's a healthy mentality to have to not be over-obsessed with the possession of the belt where ultimately, you can only control your own conditioning, training and strategy but not the outcome.
