nothing people haven't already said, but this is absolutely incredible. goes to show how the only reason a lot of microtonal music isn't as much joy to listen to, if not more, than normal boring 12-edo stuff is that almost nobody has the patience to get this deep into a particular scale and just, internalize it the way everyone does 12-edo. this feels so effortlessly beautiful, it's so wonderful to see what can exist in these harmonic spaces out so far past the shallows of "hmm yes I will write a microtonal piece now, ok how does this work"
My baby boy Archer and I are both listening to this for the first time. He can’t speak yet, only just turned 1, but he’s singing along with his vowels and is trying really hard.
The harmony on this are just crazy. It's kind of other-worldly really, stuff you'll never hear in 12 TET. You hear the dissonance but like it feels more like wild colors than dissonance. Keep up the great work!
This is total genius! Totally eternal. I'm at the moment exploring some aspects of your primodality, in an orchestral setting. It's a life altering consept.
I’ve been slowly looking into microtonal music to better understand it, and these performances are directly responsible. Thanks for making lesser appreciated musical concepts accessible!
I let out a sigh of relief when I put this on. Listening to this wonderful song has really soothed my heart. I'm having a little happy cry just before bed, I should get some good rest I think. Thank you Z! 💜
i love the phrase at 2:39 where you pivot around upper notes in the melody. having the same notes played at the top while the harmony changes is such a nice textural change. and idk if this is right but the iim9 -> V7(11) -> Imaj9 (?) cadence im hearing here to end the phrase is just so pretty, the pentatonic voicing is so vibrant your usage of harmony and chord voicings is so powerful, the diminished chords are amazing, i wish i could write music like this
Thank you. Your work is meaningful to me and I thank you for holding the worlds hand while you take us through concepts that should be better known. Xenharmonics have changed my life
for some reason this really reminds me of the sound of mourning doves, which I think really adds to the peaceful feel. Listening to this makes me imagine resting on a community bench in an arboretum or botanical garden during autumn.
Been very interested in exploring the possibilities of tuning systems outside of 12-EDO recently and everything you put out is so gorgeous and fascinating!
I got to know you through the last Destiny stream, and wow what a gem to find. I've always been a piano player but this inspires me to go to new heights, when you asked him if he knew Barry Harris my ears perked up. You are such a talented Creator, keep spreading the love 💝
Yay! Ever since I first heard about the Lumatone, it shot right to the top of my controller must have list. Love you're having so much fun with it! Continuing to improve my voice. Working on opening up the top end of my alto. I'll get there! Thanks to you!
Heard you on Destiny's. Not only did I enjoy your music, really enjoyed the conversation. I listen at 2x speed and your music was soothing at 2x and even more at regular speed. I'm looking forward to your future content.
Absolutely and completely amazing. Wow. I’m just wondering, what mapping are you using on the lumatone? like how many 31-edo steps is each of the directions? is it like the default Bosanquet-Wilson or do you use something else? Love your music!
This song makes me think of a cafe from a retro futuristic anime, where an android is pouring you coffee and raising one cybernetic eyebrow like “dessert menu?”
Oof, so good. I've only spent time with 12\31 through diasem or 5L1s scales, I had no idea it was such an accurate 17/13, and I had no idea that 31edos diatonic step was such an accurate 19/17. While watching this all I was thinking was like, *how are you getting such JI lock from such unusual chords in an EDO*? And also *this is really pretty and I dig your timbral choices*. Makes sense now though, that's really cool. 31edo has a lot of nice surprises in it. Also what synth / sampler plugin are you using here, if you don't mind sharing what it is?
