I am looking to purchase my first gimbal and the zhiyun Smooth 4 has been recommended as a great option for the price. And yet, I noticed there is a newer version 5 (and even a newer version that that!) Since both the 4 and the 5 are about the same price at my retailer, I found this video very helpful. It showed what the two gimbals can do and the upgrades for the 5, so I opted to purchase the 5. Thank you very much!

Fantastic comparison video. I liked all the points you touched. With all the features Including the vertigo mode Smooth 5 offers, Yes it is a must upgrade from the Zhiyun Smooth 4 . Thanks alot man. 👍
Smooth 5 is not yet supported by Filmic Pro. I contacted them directly and received this response this morning 11/19/21: "Thank you for writing in with that question! As the Zhiyun Smooth 5 has only recently been released in the United States (where we are located), we have not yet been able to investigate whether the Zhiyun Smooth 5 will be compatible with FiLMiC Pro. However, as we support the previous version (the Smooth 4) we likely will attempt to support this one as well! We investigate each new gimbal as it's released to determine whether it's a good fit for FiLMiC Pro, so we will investigate the Smooth 5 as soon as we are able to get one. We will also need to wait for Zhiyun to release an SDK for the Smooth 5 before we are able to support their device if they have not done so yet, so at this time I unfortunately cannot give you an answer as to whether we will be able to support it until we have more information about the gimbal, though I know that we would like to support it if we can! I hope that's helpful even though I couldn't give you a definite answer! Best Regards, FiLMiC Pro Support"
On the Smooth 4 you can press, then press and hold the lower trigger for Tilt & Pan follow mode, and if you press, then press and hold the upper trigger you can activate the go (Sports) mode.
So far I have seen the last mode of 5 on this gimbal; notated with a "V" referred to as the "Vertical" mode, the Vortex Mode, and uniquely: The "Vertigo" mode - which you pronounced: verteego mode, lol! So... which is it? Actually it's Vortex Mode (I checked) - I just found it interesting how many RU-vid videos explaining features or giving instruction on this got it wrong. Hmm. So even the pro's don't rtfm? Amazing, lol!!

Before opting for one or the other, I have two questions: 1/Is it also possible to add sound or light for example with : Ulanzi PT-3 Triple Hot Shoe Adapter for Microphone and LED Light - Compatible with DJI OSMO Mobile 3 2 Zhiyun Smooth 4 ? 2/ Can the Smooth 5 work without an Internet connection?

As of the last two weeks I am actively shopping for a 12 pro max gimbal to buy right now. I currently tried the FeiyuTech g6Max - but trying to balance a phone - i gave up. I just received the Crane M2, and the Moza Mini P arrives tomorrow; like I said, I'm actively shopping right - but the Smooth 5 looks perfect. QUESTION ONE - Do you think the Smooth 5 phone clamp will wrap around a thin phone case?? (( I noticed one of your clips showed a case with a lens filter )) QUESTION TWO - Do you know what the payload capacity is on Smooth 5 ??
Can you use the same footage to compare the smoothness of video between the 4 and the 5. One had a target to lock on, which helps with stability and looks overall unfair to the 4.

Thanks for this thorough comparaison. Would a comparaison between the Smooth 5 and the Crane M3 be in the stars? As the M3 also has mobile filmmaking ambitions, I wonder which one would be the better choice for shooting video with an iPhone 13 Pro?
@@smartphonefilmmakingpro Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I do use the Moment range of lenses with the iPhone… The one thing that seems uncertain for the M3 is FilmicPro integration. It seems that Zhiyun is not likely to issue the necessary SDK for mobile integration for the M3, at least they haven’t for the Crane series in the past.
I watched your video and bought a om4 last year. I am now using iPhone 13pro with a silicone case. When I am filming nowadays, Sometimes I feel the clamp is not strong enough. Do you recommend I upgrade to smooth5?
So, 5 months later, has your opinion changed? Is this still your daily go to? It looks like it is not possible to attach an external mic to the phone when using this gimbal?
If you have a heavy phone, then yes. Mandatory upgrade. The max payload increase is huge. Can't wait to receive my Smooth 5. This fucking iphone is so heavy :( If you have a smaller phone - not a pro max, or pro model phone - then the smooth 4 is still fine.
I've noticed you won't answer questions dealing with the Note 20 ultra, if you don't know anything about the limits and capabilities just say so. I'm trying to figure out why my Zhiyun 5 goes limp at times
Why I have to pay some functions of the app if I have just payd for the gimbal??? Also, the app has many issues. I am very very nervous. Where is the Zhiyun reputation? Quickly solve all issues and give all free for your gimbal customers. Hop, hop, come on!!
@dariusharris8308 originally I was leaning towards the go pro as well, but personally have never used the gimbal and wanted to try it, but my dilemma is that note 20 ultra is pretty heavy and I have a case on it on top and not sure how good these things are when it comes to handling big phones.

both are horrible when it comes to that unfortunately! With the smooth 5 it's a little better, because the motors are stronger, but still, both not ideal in that regard
Sorry for being rude. But I laughted at first bit about casing. Not all Smooth 5 come with soft bag case or a light. The version I got didn't have these. Secondly, I also have the Smooth Q3 and because it has a portait / landscape motor, I find it can copy with over balancing much better than the Smooth 5. For example, I was using the Smooth 5 at a music event, wanting to reach out a little and the gimbal went nuts on me. Testing this again at home with both gimbals and the Smooth Q3 handled this much better. For example, it you extend out too far, the phone would rotate. This is not possible at all on the Smooth 5. Not even the Smooth 4 can do this, which I also have
I filmed this two weeks before the official launch, I didn't have more infos back then.. Yes the landscape/portrait motor on the Smooth q3 is definitely nice.. for me it's not a big deal to be honest
nice vid, the fact that the motor on the smooth 5 is at the side so my oppo find x 5's ultra wide (hopefully , won't 'see' the clamp) i haven't bought the smooth 5 yet but it seem the obvious choice . Really immature t shirt though.
