Zhiyun Smooth Q Review - Buttons, Controls and Modes

Hi JZ, I just wanted to point out I had my Smooth Q for almost a year now and I never had to buy an adapter for my gopro 6. All you have to do is turn unfasten the knob and place the phone clamps upside down. Place the gopro there and use the gimbal in selfie mode so the camera point on the right direction.

Yeah I don't like the mounting and balancing process on any of these, but the devices work really well. Congrats on getting 1000 subscribers!

It seems like not a lot of people get the function of the zoom slider. It works best once you are actually recording. If you are not recording it acts as a way to change the from front and rear camera to record and photo mode but if peiole did their research properly they'll know this before slagging the design of the gimble.

the way the mode button works is the stupidest thing I have seen for ages. I really wonder what the programmer who made it was thinking.

I am having trouble going from the default pan mode to locking. I am short pressing, once, on the mode button to lock mode but the pan axis is still moving, what am i doing wrong?

Can i manually move the motors without using the joystick?

I have a question about Full mode. I like that it follows you in all 4 directions, but is there way to adjust the initial position in this mode? Smooth Q automatically goes to it's preset position in Full mode ( tilted downwards). It would be nice to have 45 degree angle in this mode.

When I enter Follow Mode on my Smooth Q, the camera loses horizon, tilting down about 15 degrees. this happens every time. I have calibrated several times and it still does it. Does this happen to your Smooth Q?

Thanks. I couldn't find any visual indicator of what mode the gimbal is currently in. How do you know if you're currently in follow or lock or lock follow mode? Am I missing something?

ive been having issues with mine. it keeps disconnecting form my phone. also all the features you on the menu screen..i dont have them all. oh do i need the zy assistant or just the zy play app?

hey man great review. However, my power button does not work as a shutter button like in your video. Is it because im using Android (samsung s7 edge)? Also my zoom slider does not work too (cant even change camera and switch from back to front camera)

help, my phone is huawei p20 lite i already connected smooth 4 but when i click menu button, click pictureS it tilts horizontal i already watch howcl to calibrate and nothing change is there any solution? tnx

Really enjoy your videos... one item on the Zoom slider...it is a bit awkward to use, but this happens anytime that you make buttons with multiple functions. While you are recording, you can smoothly zoom in and out with the slider, and this is what we expect from a zoom slider. When the phone is on standby, pressing the zoom slider up and holding changes from front facing to rear facing camera...and sliding the zoom control down and holding changes between video and photo mode on the phone. So if you are changing the zoom during standby you have to zoom in or out with short movements of the slider. Takes some getting used to, but its nice that you can change so many of the phone's options using the minimalized control panel on the Smooth Q. Apparently the Smooth Q did not have this separation of zoom options when it was first released, so its something that they added in with the firmware updates. And interesting that Zhiyun has added a number of buttons to the Smooth 4 to separate tasks...and added in a few options that the Osmo 2 offers...

So, from your diagram, 1 click always puts you in Lock Mode, 2 clicks always puts you in Follow Mode. What happens with 2 clicks when in Follow Mode?

hey man ! i measured the adapter at about 125g and the gopro is at 114g, what equals 240g The smooth q is maxed out with 220g so how is it working for yourself ? im looking forward to buying a gopro and use with adapter with my smooth q but im scardes i will damage it. the other thing is i use an external mix so the gopro mics adapter comes on that, so im at 300g or something like that. maybe i have to sell the smooth q ? would be awesome to hear from you

Why is the gimbal butchering the video quality? At first i notice that the videofiles become a lot smaller than it do when take the video with the phone without the gimbal, but the downside is that quality get butcher, why? Is it anything i can do about it? I have change resolution both up and down, it do not change anything at all.

Please make tutorial to update smooth q firmware to latest

you forgot about triple click for 180 degree selfie mode with front camera. also zoom work as it should when recording.

@ 6:00 Zoom only works when recording

all buttons woks great for iPhones but not Andoid...

It’s amazing none of you characters that demonstrate this tell whether you can use your phone case on your phone in the gimbal is there enough room for a phone case no one has answered that question %$&@£¥#
