Zila Khan, Indian classical singer speaks about her father Ustad Vilayat Khan. She says, "I am very fortunate that I am a daughter of Ustad Vilayat Khan. I know people expect a lot from me as I am a daughter of Ustad Vilayat Khan but still I am happy with being a daughter of him. I played Sitar till the age of 12 and then I took a decision that I would better be a singer than a Sitar player.
I had a parallel relation with my father as a Guru and as a father. I took so much time to perform in public because in my culture women are not allowed to perform openly but firstly my husband encouraged me to perform in public.
