Zildjian A Custom logo restoring/rebuilding and Cymbal cleaning.
YOU NEED
Zildjian Cymbal Polish
1x Pencil / Bleistift
Transfer Paper / Kohlepapier
Transparent Paper / Transparentes Papier
Sharpie Ultra Fine Tip Marker
Scalpel / Skalpell
Edding 5200 Primer
Edding 5200 Acryl Colorspray Deep-black / Edding Acryllack
Tiefschwarz
Edding 5200 Clearcoat / Edding Klarlack
Foil / Folie
Rockfall foil / Steinschlagschutzfolie
First of all, I love those Zildjian A-Custom Cymbals and I would never change to another Manufacturer. So all of my Cymbals are proof real Zildjian A Custom Cymbals!
In this video I show you how you can clean your Cymbal and rebuild the logos. After many years of playing with these Cymbals the condition of the signs getting worst and worst. I want the brilliant finish back again! A-Custom cymbals are not the cheapest ones and I pay lots of money to use those great cymbals but the condition was after 10 years heavy played so thats why I decided to clean them and restore all of the logos.
First of all you need transparent paper to depict all signs from you cymbal. If you got all logos you can clean your Cymbals as best as you can. After that you need tranferpaper and
adhesive foil. First you lay the foil then the transferpaper and above them your transparent paper with the depicted signs. Now follow the drawlines with an pencil. Now take a look on the foil underneath. Now correct the lines with an sharpie marker and cut carefully the logos with an very sharp scalpel.
Now put the foil on the right place of the cymbals and fix it with tape. By using paper around the foil you protect your cymbal from any color.
Its time to color the signs by using Edding Primer, Acryl spraycolor and clearcoat. This part takes a couple hours.
After coloring the signs remove the papers and the foilparts as well and the cymbal and the job is done. If your wand to protect your new logos for the future buy yourself rockfall foil. This foil is often used to protect cars from scratches and tiny colorholes on the front

You did a great job on those logos! Even from the factory some of the logos are not solid black over the entire font. I see this with Zildjian and Sabian. It does seem that both companies do a better job with their brilliant finish cymbals.

Great work. I'm running A Mastersound hats and two A custom crashes, and all four are cleaner than Mother Mary's... bathroom sink. :D They say "don't clean them", but that's complete BS - brilliant finish cymbals have been designed to be clean. They also say "why restore the logos and give the brand free advertising?", but I happen to love the logo. An artist created that logo, it's damned cool and I want it to live on. :)

I'm actually considering doing something like this if I were to get a new Sabian cymbal because I personally do not like the new logo

I didn't like the new logo when it was introduced either. After getting a few new Sabians I prefer the new logo. For the old logo I like having only the small sized version on the bottom only. I have a pre 2015 HH Ride and the logo on top is giant. I believe that's why the logo was changed. The old logo became too large which wad a complaint from many dealers. The size was decreased and there was hardly a logo. The new logo splits the difference. It's large on many cymbals however the font is thin and not heavy looking like the old logo became.

They look great!. That takes a lot of patience I'm sure. I have 10 cymbals! 😑😕😳💥 Zildjian should sell a stencil and ink kit. Why are they not doing that?... that's freaking brilliant!, if I do say so myself. Just give you enough ink for 10 or 20 cymbals top and bottom, and whatever size stencils they use for their different size logos. Sell it for $49.99. I'd be all over it!

Thanks - it takes 4 weeks to rebuild, but it's worth it! I would never sell my cymbals so thats why I rebuild the Logos and preserve it for the future

Tried to like this comment multiple times but it wouldn’t let me. And I definitely agree. He did an amazing job on the re-stamp.

Also, do you think i can do it with a pre made logo I buy from a printing shop? It would skip a few steps if im correct but it may work. Thanks

I appreciate the idea but I think there is no need to apply primer because the paint adheres well to the metal. I also suggest you use a laser cut mask because it is more precise and you struggle less.

I know this is old, but for anyone looking to do something like this in the future, check with your local library. I know several in my area that provide laser cutting, cricut, etc which would significantly help this process. However, I love your tenacity, and dedication to this project! That's some Grade A cymbal love to handcut all that!

My local drum store owner says they lose 40% of their value if you wipe out the logos. That makes this very worth while, especially if you want to keep them for at least a while.
