the kick drums don't sounds like joey's cause he's using triggers.. so every single hit on the bass it's all on the same volume. Jay's is the organic sound and much harder to achieve..

It's a mix of both, and joey did use triggers too, also on his toms, doesn't make either of them less of a player

Apparently, he has 2 20" A Custom Crashes on both sides but to me it doesn't sound like it, sounds like a 19" on the left and 20" on the right. Or a standard 20" on the left and a 20" Projection on the right idk.

I think he's a good drummer, but in the blast part his snare is nearly completely silent. When you drum, too, this can be really annoying to hear. And his bass is really sloppy. I don't want to be a hater, but that is something I don't like about Jay

Slipknot why did you choose Jay? Should have gone with Betto or Krimh. Actually Krimh is pretty good fit for Septicflesh.

Krimh is good and he fits at septicflesh. Imo Jay fits slipknot because his of his style. If krimh was in The band then it would have more blast beats, maybe faster double bass but it wouldnt fit Slipknot music style. Slipknot isnt death metal and it doesnt need very fast drummer. Jay really made a good work on. 5

Jay was watching Slipknot play from the time he was young. He's a perfect fit from the band, and they've known him for years. They requested he audition, and in my opinion, he is may more qualified for this role.

I'm a guitarist but I know a good drum beat when I hear it (don't even get me started on the 1 drum beat for all songs drummer from 5FDP). And I thought Joey was sounding tired/lazy on All Hope Is Gone. Seeing these vids from Jay re-iterates my thoughts that it was the best move that Slipknot have done. Jay's fills, feet and symbol work just blow me away

Nope, he just doesn't trigger his snare so it's harder to hear them. Blast beats are practically ghost notes on the snare because you hit it so quickly.

Ummm there's plenty of metal drummers that don't trigger their snare and you can hear the notes clearly. Look up some Danny walker playing with murder construct or Kai Hahto playing with rotten sound or wintersun

Call me a hater but I just really don't think this guy is that great of a drummer. Everything he plays sounds stiff and sloppy. I'll give him some props for his energy and I know it's hard to play for long sets like these. If you watch Joeys drum cams from the disaster pieces dvd you'll see how much more solid he was. Also if you listen to the drums on .5 they just sound boring and uninspired but that's just my opinion.

Radya Mardika I agree. You can't compare Disasterpieces with this. Joey's drumming back then in 2002 is so much different to Jay's drumming now. But the only similarity is that both Jay and Joey were young and were at/close to being at their prime

The whole young in their prime thing is dumb. Tomas haake from meshuggah is in his mid 40s and he still nails the meshuggah parts perfectly live. Also meshuggahs double kick is a zillion times more complicated and physically demanding. Honestly neither jay or Joey are/were that great in general.
