This is Gunstock Mountain in Gilford, New Hampshire! This particular Zipline is the Recoil Zipline, which is about 3,900 feet long and reaches speeds up to 65mph. I am currently an active Zipline guide there and the guide at the beginning of the video is a friend of mine. That brake handle is designed to only move your trolley when you pull it down. The reason this person "crashed" is because they didn't let up on the handle when they were supposed to (because they were facing backwards). The "crash" was actually just them hitting a long line of springs designed to slow them down in any case of emergency or somebody forgetting to brake. I have done this line more times than I can count and highly recommend it if you have the chance!
@@TonyEnglandUKSold more tickets to what or where? Definitely not this zip line place. Now that it has been explained it isn’t a dangerous place, more would go. Just my opinion.
@@nevric7374 Slow down the video and look at it frame by frame. Do you see how high the rider is compared to the person on the platform? Also the rider is kind of sitting. There's no way they would risk people hitting the ledge of the platform. Do you see the springs at 01:11 on the other zipline? That is the brake system. The spring compresses and slows you down. Looks like the camera is mounted on the helmet and it hit that plate in front of the spring. It might be hard to to change which way you are facing, depending on the harness. I've only ridden a 300m long zipline FYI.
I did this in Costa Rica in the jungle during a thunderstorm pouring rain. You get moving and I could see how you can get seriously hurt if you don’t have a brake line to slow you down. Also I see he spun around which is tricky to get yourself back facing forward. Took me a few lines to understand how to turn myself around.
I did it in many places but while I was in Costa Rica, I did it in Dominical. That zipline went through a lot of rainforest and at the end it came to a stop where you unclipped yourself about 20 feet above a swimming hole. And dropped into the water.
@@maxdavies9958 I imagine that stopper is also an emergency stop. There's no way on earth there would be a zip line this high, long and fast and there not be some emergency break
@@jakejancook Yes you're supposed to slow yourself down nicely before you slam into the emergency stopper at the end, this guy clearly ignored that advice and went for a full whiplash experience.
Didn’t look too bad. In Jamaica the workers threw a brake up the line from the bottom that arrested the speed of the rider. Worked very well but was pretty abrupt. That’s probably what happened here and the camera wasn’t firmly attached.
Nah, that handle he is pulling on is how he controls his speed. All he needed to do was let up on the handle and a brake pad would be pushed against the line. At the bottoms are springs on the cable, starting at 5lbs resistance and working up to 80lbs. Shouldn't have even hit them at all, that trolley is perfectly capable of stopping you in advance, springs are there as a backup.
You pull the line to go, you can see them pull down to start. You let go and it WILL slow you down to a stop, but you kind of need to let the brake engage to see if it works, not just fly full speed into the emergency stops
In Victoria BC I had an accident by coming in too hot. The stopping blocks were faulty and I too was landing backwards but was spared serious injury. I like zip lining especially in a forest setting.
@@terrypearce9925 Yes, it was! And a great course it is. Then after we turn in helmets and harnesses, it’s next door to the 17 Mile House Pub for some beer and burgers.
i was on such a zipline without a break. I turned myself during the ride and couldnt see where and when it ends, so i crashed backwards with my head against the tree where the line ended. I smashed my torax with my head and had to go to a hospital. a horrible accident. so watch out when you go to such a park if the constructions are safe!
Just an FYI for anyone wanting to zip line. The insurance you get before traveling does not cover injuries relating to this type of activity. Food for thought.
Guess you didn't listen the the instructions you're supposed to use wind resistance too to help control your speed. I did it up in WhistlerBC before it became a thing and wasn't crowded kinda like that south park episode.
All he had to do was pull on the thing in front of him to get spun around. It’s connected slightly ahead of him so he could just keep force on it and stay forward. Did he have a brake? Was he told to slow down towards the end? Lol
I can get a bit of a thrill by watching that, and not risk my life! (I bungee-jumped 25 years ago, in my thrill-seeking days in spite of being an acrophobic, rafted some serious Clas 5+ white-water, SCUBA dived, but I think not, on the zipline!) How can I see that same view more safely? I fly an aircraft, but I wouldn't get that close to the trees or brush! (Funny how when you put on a few years, longevity starts to look very appealing!)

Damn I was getting agitated watching this and turning my head and twisting my body trying to turn around even though I have no control whatsoever. I'm yelling out "TURN AROUND TURN!!!! DAMNIT TURN AROUND!! WTF ARE YOU DOING?!"
There's no fuking way Im getting on some sketchy ass third world country implementation of an over the top thrill ride. Plus, this is how Toby broke his neck... "it's nice to have visitors"
We made our own zip line we called it the later skater back in the early 70 s got the idea from Wild West with Robert Conrad Took the cable off the back of a UI truck put up 40 feet pine tree 150 ft run it was spectacular no safety just hold on and jump it lasted a couple of months After one broken leg and a broken back we put it to rest 😂😂
