Zippo is probably the best company in terms of customer service. I live in France (french riviera) and i own a bunch of zippos, i collect them. I've already broken two (hinge problems usually) and although i buy most of my zippos from amazon (best way to get them, since there are no official Zippo shops in France), every time i've sent them back, and, after like two months, they've fixed it free, no questions asked. Great stuff. Apreciate the vid Jeff :)
My favorite lighter was my World Peace Zippo. I loved that lighter so much. Someone stole it after only a month of having it. Guy tossed it too and I never saw it again. Broke my heart. So I stole his old Jet Black Zippo 😉
I have a 1992 regular zippo that used to be my dads. He did so many tricks that the hinge pin broke. He just stuck in a paper clip and cut off the rest. Now it flips all the way and rests against the body so now you don't have to worry about the hinge breaking. Its been this way for the last 15 years and it works perfect for tricks. I recently bought a 1972 zippo slim and I love it. Its still made just like the new ones but it just feels vintage some how.
It's a common misconception that it's the pin that gets bent that causes the lid to be loose or skew to one side. Its actually the knuckles(the loops that go around the pin). They widen open or loosen.
it happens pretty quickly with regular use too if youre a smoker. alls you have to do is drop it once on the right spot and the lid will mis align. Then you have to bend it back and I feel like that weakens the hinge. hate doing it. Good thing for the guarantee tho!
I keep my 50 dollar steampunk zippo in the wrapper and box still but have many i fidget with and do neat tricks but if i ever broke the hinge ill just mail it off such great customer service
This is why I use a 1941 replica with a 4 barrel hinge. The fact the cap can hit the side of the body with no resistance makes it the best for tricks. I recommend them!
I LOVE THAT ZIPPO! the black matte with red borders is my favorite zippo of all time! is simple, is cool, is cheap and is the first zippo i've ever got! whats your favorite zippo now in days?
So glad you made 7:17 minute video about one sentence, really appreciate the stuff you do! True legend, I now know that zippo will break if Iuse it for tricks. Also thanks for mentioning that zippo will break if used for tricking, really broadened my understanding of zippo breaking when doing tricks with it. However one part is still a bit unclear, can zippo break if I just use it to flip open often or am I putting it at risk of breaking?
Its probably been previously mentioned in the comments of this video, but I think what people mean by "which Zippo is the best for tricks" is what is the best textured Zippo for tricks. Like satin or matte painted or smooth polished Zippos etc. :)
I love my two Genuine ZIppos so when I am doing tricks I use my Star Windproof and keep the one Zippo just on display in my room and the other I carry.
Broke my slim from doing tricks, sent it in for the warranty and got a new one with the tightest hinge that I have ever seen. Seriously, the thing can hardly open.
Whenever someone uses a bic or a crappy disposable one then they have to cup their hand around it to get a light outside, and you have to hold the gas release down.
Sent one Zippo in repair like 10 weeks ago bc the spring in the chimney broke, got it back and literally the same day the Cap flew off bc I did Zippo tricks with it
hey jeff could you do a video or just message me back, so since christmas is coming up one of the things im asking for is a nice balisong, I want to make it easy for my parents to order the knife and went looking for a place to order a benchmade 42, found it very difficult trying to sort out the fakes and then trying to find a legit site, could you tell me/us where the best place to buy high quality balisongs is and what a good second choice to the 42 would be, thanks in advance
Really, just using a Zippo will eventually break it (even if it takes decades or centuries). Anything with moving parts will fail, just a matter of time.
