Good info JR. I just got a new Zip and sure enough it had the red markings. Another box checked for lifetime questions I’ve had about Zippo’s. Thanks brother!

The felt pads that Zippo use are better than the nueoprene pads that are used in a lot of the Chinese and Taiwan knockoffs because after a while they shrink which then causes them to leak nearly every time you refill the lighter unless you underfill the lighter

Ohhhh i just my zippo and has the little hole they only gave me one flint for the lighter itself. My zippo was dying quick

Thanks for the info! But what is the point of using felt, instead of some other material to stop leakage? Would the fuel not soak through the felt pad..?

Where can authentic extra pads be purchased? I have a mini vintage lighter that is missing its pad that I would cut down a larger one for.

There may be some on eBay, but you can not buy parts like that directly from Zippo. You could send in Zippos for repair and get new inserts. That’s one way of getting new pads.

I am using the hole because it is much less messy and i also use my scale to measure exactly 5,5g-6g of fluid that is around 7-8ml(if it is kerosene like or 8-9ml if it is naphta like, i am not sure what exactly is zippo fluid made of) of Zippo fluid. When i put over 6g of fluid it is too much and lighter leaks fluid.
