I have one of the low end $10 Zippos from Walmart. Stainless steel was too slick a surface so i wrapped the whole thing in black duct tape. Better grip, customised (lol), and some surface water protection all for pennies! I really enjoy how informative and relatable your videos are, keep it going man!
I agree I love Zippo lighters just classic iconic America one of the great American products still available and still holding on to the quality that America still should stand for great video keep up the great work
I wish ZIppo made a regular flame insert, I know you can get a third party one, but I'd rather stay on brand. I get more use out of it as a candle than I do lighting cigarettes these days, but I still always keep it in my pocket.
I've carried and used Zippos for 40 years not because it's American made but because of their quality and reliability years ago I started using the cheap knockoffs that were half the price but they weren't as good and usually would fall apart within 6 to 9 months and the wicks would be destroyed and would need to be replaced within 3 months
I own a couple of Zippos, but my current EDC is a 1941 Replica in Black Ice that I've had for a few years now. A couple of months ago I decided to try one of those Thunderbird butane inserts, just to prolong the refilling process. As soon as I got the insert, and purchasing the butane fuel for it, I did not like it. It was actually defective in that it leaked all the butane in a matter of minutes! So even though I could've returned it for a new insert, I decided to get my money back and go back to the original Zippo insert. Like you said, there is just something about that smell that goes along with that legendary Zippo sound effect.
They're beautiful pieces of engineering, but the way fuel leaks out of them bugs me too much to ever want to carry one daily. Maybe I'll get a butane or arc lighter insert zippo someday, if just for a functional fidget toy.
Be N S O N I have heard that the Vector Thunderbird inserts are really awesome for Zippo Lighters. Hopefully mine will get here soon, can’t wait to try it out.
I can see the opening on the dark one from here :D One should never depend on a zippo unless they carry it inside a special made container. It definitely leaks like hot damn... Capitalizm aside, even if I were a US citizen, I wouldn't support or use a zippo. It is nothing more than those hollow brands you mentioned. Just some item with probably some sentimental value. Or "a brand" engraved into our minds using 80's capitalist propaganda (I still remember that "evil" Malboro cowboy). Let's admit, it was something of a character defining carry item for us, when we were young. Until they kept throwing them into the fuel without any remorse in those cheap action movies. As if they couldn't use a piece of paper, rather than loosing that precious-only-in-our-minds zippo... Which actually was a couple of dollars. Well, even dollars is not what it was :D Like I mentioned earlier. It was so important, so sentimental; that after getting one stolen I had quit smoking... What a looser I was to have such a mind set :) Anyways, thanks for the video. Even if I do not find them zippos precious today, you definitely made me think about all these stuff and how our minds evolved in time... Have a nice one...
You can take HD out of the mix of American company's since they are happily outsourcing most of their production to Chinamart. Sorry, still bitter about that one if you couldn't tell
Have you checked out the Armor series? The casing is thicker and supposed to be "ding proof". I'm a non-smoker, and I carry a tumbled brass armor series every day, just because I love it. Cost me around $20 on Amazon. I chalk the weekly/bi-weekly refills up to CODB... Keep up the great reviews and videos!
Actually, the Antique Copper one in the video is one of the Armor series. There is one geometric copper one that I have had my eye on though. Really like the looks of it.
TX Tool Crib the two that I have work fine, I have one Dual Jet & One Soft flame…I know Zippo is manufacturing their own butane & arc inserts so I’m curious to see how those stack up
Something tells me that this guy doesn't even smoke! So he carries around a Zippo petrol lighter everyday, refills it as it constantly evaporates, because he thinks it is an icon! - AStart smoking, it's good for you and toy will get to use your Zippo more than 20-30 times per day after a year or so.
