Right lol. But they are made to last too for the extra bucks. And if you’re a experienced butane filler which I am not. Been with zippos since I was a kid.
True. But you didn’t mention smoking preferences. For looks 100%. For smoking on the fly flame height and flame, Dunhill. For me anyway. Love that thing. Cartier is a great one but if only the tank didn’t make it as hard to alter the height based on who’s using it.
I got a black laquer/palladium dupont. I have a dupont fountain pen and cutter as well. I love it and already want another one. Its annoying to see all the people saying they have one when so many fakes are out there.
I've had six du points over the years, two stood the test of time but the other four broke and required servicing (two of which required servicing multiple times)... my experience is that they are form over function and I use them no longer.
Yeah, I found my grandpa's old Zippo from when he worked at one of the companies and he got it from them. Ended up just putting some more fuel in it and it works perfectly fine.
Both are great lighters and have their own charm. I love that vintage style Zippo as much as I appreciate the classic and timeless elegance of this line 1 model. When I was young I had a lot of Zippos. Very accessible, robust and just cool. I still have most of them but when I discovered S.T. Dupont lighters I just got hooked. Over the years I collected some line 2, gatsby, a small line 1 and recently a new line D. Love all of them.
@@djovakucomedy6085 There are also larger versions of the line 1 which are nearly the same size as the Zippo. Those are considered men's models whereas the one in the video is a women's model. But I don't care abou that. I have the same one silver coated and use it regularly.
I bought that exact model of ST Dupont (small, line 1) lighter about 20 years ago, same pattern in silver. I found it in an antique store for $150 (Australian dollars). It is stil working perfectly.
I used to really like my dupont lighters but I fell out of love with them. Having to carry around adapters or specified fuel... and every one that I have every owned has broken eventually requiring servicing. My zippos have never let me down. Just my 2c.
Keep it classic keep it American. I’ll use a zippo to light up every time. When there’s no butane in sight but gasoline is I can use it. Windproof built to last and a lifetime guarantee. Right now I’m using a Vietnam era 1972 brush chrome that I’ve cleaned down and rewicked myself. Works beautifully.
@@i.c.wiener2750I gotta agree with you on that one. I still haven’t gotten my hands on a DuPont yet but I will soon. I have a few dunhills as well. In my own personal opinion I hate refilling butane lighters as opposed to lighter fluid ones. Wick, cotton fuel. I use pure naphtha in all of mine now.
@@G.H.O.S.T.F.R.E.A.Kdo you smoke cigars? I’ve never lit a cigar with zippo fluid so I don’t know from experience, but it’s said that zippo fluid negatively affects the taste of cigars. What’s your experience? Does the naphtha burn better and have less of an effect on taste?
@@ChimRichalds750no sir never use a zippo to light a cigar either do it the classy way using a stick match or a torch lighter. The lighter fluid will ruin the taste of a good premium cigar my man. Thanks for the question. Happy to answer it. Like the original comment the gentleman said above me, duponts are great for those too.
@@pootis388 both Bic and Zippo are tools, just Bic is the cheap Harbor Freight tool and Zippo is your nice quality tool inherited from your grandfather that will never break haha
Dupont. I have a vintage small silver ligne 1 that works flawlessly. i also have a zippo that's still in it's box. never liked the smell of zippo. for EDC use, a slim bic. reliable, light and cheap.
The du pont is the tradesman with 40 years experience while the zippo has 10, still good but the other is next level and charges you appropriately lmao
Zippo is for people that like class but still like to have a lighter they can beat up a little, Doupont is more like for the actual rich people, i mean i like zippo more because its just iconic but doupont is also very nice
The Zippo adheres to the classical principles of American design-simple, reliable, and versatile. You do not get this with products that do not have a range of tolerance built into them to allow the final quality.
JD Zippo all the way, something you can actually use and not worry about scratching it. Dupont lighter is stupidly well made but costing $1,200 id never want to use it.
That Dupont does not have a gas regulator, that is a stopper only to stop the gas when you change the flint! The flame is way to high you van easilly lower the flame by turni g the “thing” where the gas exit from!
They both have their ups and downs. Zippos are awesome but they need maintenance. Butane less maintenance but more issues down the road and less rebuild more replace. Harley vs German Honda .
the DuPont is also a butane lighter, while the Zippo is a wick naptha lighter. You'll pay more for fuel with the Zippo, but its wind-resistant compared to the butane yellow flame.
No hate towards DuPont though I love the look of their lighters. Fancy and luxurious. I may pick one up one day. Dunhills are also pretty cool too. I have a WW2 era one that I use scarcely as to not damage it, it’s kept in the box it came in from 1944 most of the time.
@@chaicharinand if you wanna get even more classier, get a 10K gold filled zippo or a 10 karat gold filled DuPont. You’ll be living like it’s 1955 and you’re on top of the world lol.
And you forgot the legendary IMCOS. The triplex 6700 series. Those suckers are older than any lighter ever made. I believe. Zippo was 32 IMCO was 1918.
What I truly love about Zippo is how durable they’re in every possible situation. High temperature, low temperature, high humidity, rain, snow, wind, a god damn tornado, doesn’t matter, it always lights up if you take care of it. The worst part is that you need to take serious care of it. You always need to have a certain amount of fuel in it, to keep the wick moist, unless the wick gets burned pretty easily. Also there’re some gold plated Zippos but almost none solid Golds or Palladiums. So they’ll eventually rust. They sell solid Silver ones, which probably will rust faster than the Chrome plated ones. Even though chrome is extremely rust resistant, it’s just a playing layer. The non-plated brass ones are probably worse on that front. But at least their inserts are made of stainless steel, which is still not a Gold or Palladium, but lasts much much longer. So unless you preserve your Zippo with great care, someday in the future they’ll just rust away. People revive Zippos of course, which is cool, but I don’t know, I wish the original ones could last as long as a DuPont. Although they’re not practical at all. And they mostly won’t last more than two centuries, the incredible reliability is just amazing. No butane lighter, even a DuPont can’t even compare to its reliability. And a lifetime of durability is literally guaranteed by Zippo. Even your grandchildren can send the lighter to the Zippo to get it working again. Which is an amazing feat for any company to achieve. They have my immense respect just for this policy. And that’s why I won’t ever buy a DuPont. I’d rather buy 20 Zippos or a gold plated, solid silver Zippo, or 3, I don’t know, but I would spend that money on a Zippo. Also preserving a Zippo shouldn’t be that hard if it’s gold plated I believe. You just shouldn’t use it, to not to wear off the gold plating.
That is all my grandfather would drink but minus the coke and only few ice cubes in the short glass. I tried that when I was younger and felt like my mouth was on fire. Then later on when I was old enough to drink it still burns and makes my eyes water. However, I can appreciate the flavor and the after taste is one of a kind.
One uses butane the other fuel. This comparison is weird. Personally i find retro non zippo-type lighters more reliable, and i enjoy fuel type over butane.
nice video , thats not the correct way to adjust the flame on ST dupont Ligne 1 BR model . you have to turn the nozzle with a small Pliers . make sure to not turn it much , just a little bit . then try to turn the lighter on . that bottom is only for closing and opening the gas for changing the stone , you have the adjust the gas height with a turning the nozzle with a small Pliers .
Guys why sometimes I see ( most often in old zippo) made in ZIPPO USA and upside Made in ZIPPO USA. In both cases the lighters claim to be real no replica. Can you spot the difference on a fake one this way or?
The insert doesn’t have zippo written anywhere nor is it stamped with the month it was made and year. Also the chimney is a different design and cam and rivet holding the flint wheel in place is different. I can accurately describe you’re using a zippo from the early to mid 50s so it’s real. That’s how it was stamped then. Block lettering, MADE IN ZIPPO U.S.A and the patent number at the bottom 2517191 PAT PEND. It’s authentic brother.
They didn’t start using date codes until the mid 50s it was a experimental stamp I presume. I own a bunch of vintage ones I fix them up and clean them down and display them. Know when they were made and how to accurately date them, I’m a bit of an expert on this sorta deal. Your zippo is from the 50s. I have one just like it. A 55. For the middle to late 50s you had “dots” to show the date it was made all the way to the 1960s and stopping in 1963. 1964 you had “lines”, 1970s you had “slash marks”, all the way up to the late 80s and the to the 1990s you had “Roman numerals” like X XI, VIII etc etc… starting with the 2000s a Letter from the alphabet indicates the month it was made on the left side of the bottom and zippo in the middle as usual, with a number like 01, 02, 03 and so on. These are the modern ones seen today. Hope all this information helps you out buddy. Keep on collecting.
Zippo more btter bc you can change it easy and more cheaper and stronger other one Is deadly the usual zippo is for smoking but that one is for who likes zippo more but second doesn’t recommended it can burn house easily
The one in the video sold and I have two available in my Ebay store. One is small and the other is large. www.ebay.com/itm/334758697350 www.ebay.com/itm/234888582754
