They're the kind of couple that when you first hear they're together, it doesn't make sense in your mind. But then you see this. They actually gel so well.
I've been a fan of Zoe since X-Men. This is the first time I've seen her this relaxed but also louder than she usually is. Good on you Tatum for making her happy. ❤️
And he wasn't even looking around for it, he specifically asked where the film was with intent! Sorry not sorry, fanboying over others' appreciation of Terry Gilliam here.
@@HotStrange second after... 12 Monkeys or Brazil? or Fear & Loathing. I love all four of those so much but I'd have to put 12 Monkeys number 1 and the other three in a tie for second.
Paris is Burning was such an event when it came out. For me, an 18 year old sheltered kid in Kentucky to have heard of it when it came out and to have SEEN it, you know it was important.
I was forced to watch it at uni and thought how awful it was. A gay kleptomaniac whining about because he's gay he has to steal from people. Pathetic excuse for a human being
@@87WolvesAndADuck Still two of the funniest movies I’ve ever fucking seen. I remember seeing 22 Jump Street in the theaters and there was only like a handful of a couple minute breaks between the whole theater laughing. I feel like he’s only gotten better as an actor since those movies. Respect how he’s much willing to be the joke like in This Is the End.
@@maegantrice936agree! Like he mentioned Kurosawa & fisher king on his own, had his own story for them, she didn’t comment so we can assume he was familiar 🙄 ppl are so dense about their perception of celebrities
"Do you know how long I've been waiting for this? Woo, I'm about to make a name for myself here." I love that Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum are finally here showing their love for cinema. Criterion never disappoints us fans with these closet picks.
Cute Couple Alert!! They were so excited in being here that they never mention their joint project, Blink Twice! Love their passion for film, you see their chemistry and how they bounce off each other!! It feels like the Terry Gilliam streak continues!!
I just found out from reading your comment. Loved her so much in 'Night On Earth' and 'Minnie & Moskowitz'. Always sort of thought she'd live forever bc she's so timeless.
Thelma and Louise is really fantastic film and I own it 4K last year and the restoration looks beautiful and it won for original screenplay which the writing is really outstanding and really phenomenal cast including young Brad Pitt.
Same. What two or three movies would blow you away if they were picked in the CC? Like, automatically, person gets their cool card certified by that choice. 🎥
@@miseentrope Dr Strangelove automatically gets someone cool points, Love Liza or Synecdoche New York too, and maybe a Gaspar Noe film like Enter the Void
1:56 Interesting note for Channing: Kent Williams who painted that Lord of the Flies cover also illustrated the comic series Havok & Wolverine, coming on the heels of you mentioning your film Havoc. Also Kent's stunning book of paintings, Kwaidon, has an introduction by Darren Aronofsky.
Speaking of Havok I just saw X-Men: First Class on TV, which Zoe Kravitz was also in as Angel, and Havok was in that as well. He even "clipped" her wings so to speak.
@@GodLovesComics Retroactive Recognition in full effect. Just funny that Channing and Zoe were both apart of X-Men in some fashion or form and are now together.
Kent Williams illustrated the Meltdown series? That’s wild, I remember reading those as a kid and being just dumbfounded by the unique and visceral perspective in those illustrations.
I never thought in an infinite amount of years that a) Channing Tatum would be in the Criterion closet and b) Channing Tatum picking up the Koker Trilogy in the Criterion closet.
wait i'm an NYC native..how have I never heard Kim's Video Collection? The Wiki article says there used to be one at St Marks yet I have no recollection of a video store being at St Marks.
One of my favorite movies of all time is “A guide to recognizing your saints” and a big reason for me loving the movie is Channing and how great he was as Antonio, I highly recommend watching it
Pretty good mix of films. It’s always fun to see what people are going to pick and talk about. I had no idea they were a couple at first, guess I don’t keep up with celebrity happenings.
In a closet of cinematic delight, Zoë and Channing share their insight. From Cassavetes’ raw, emotional flow, To “Paris is Burning,” with its timeless glow. Harland County's grit, a punk rock past, Gena Rowlands’ performance, an unforgettable cast. The Vanishing's chills and Moonstruck’s grace, They stroll through the classics, each one a treasured place. Midnight Cowboy’s TV scene spins with flair, The Rose’s soulful notes, a vibrant affair. With every pick, they weave a filmic dream, In the closet of stars, where memories gleam.
Whoa, they're first pick gave me chills. Rest peacefully, GR. This was awesome. I wouldn't mind it if these two kept going. 'Moonstruck' is a truly great movie. And 'The Vanishing' does shake one to their core. This was a great episode 🍻
That story he tells about SEVEN SAMURAI and RASHOMON is exactly how someone in a comic book store on Ventura Blvd. in Studio City introduced me to _Watchmen_ in 2001. So this kind of thing does happen in real life. And I find it delightful how short she is.
I love Zoe’s extroverted personality with Channing. She’s a lot more extrovert She’s usually reserved and introverted but I’ve always known she’s not just cool and breezy she’s a joker too. Love thee two together
I love seeing creative people be inspired by the works of other creative minds. You just see their enthusiasm and sparkle talking about what makes them love films in the first place 😊
I miss the video store so much. My favorite thing was going to Blockbuster on a Friday night and just looking at all the movies. I would rent like 4 or 5 and just burn through them. I still have my card in a drawer somewhere. LOL.
Yeah, I buy a lot of really cheap 2nd hand DVDs from eBay (love me some extras & it offers more variety than streaming), but it's still not the same as falling over something you didn't know about, or had forgotten, when rummaging around a proper offer.
How many talk about you guys at? I wanna lay around and call you back……. For years, but more so recently, the Criterion Collection has belatedly recognized female film directors by reissuing on home video examples of their work. Several Americans (Dorothy Arzner, Martha Coolidge, Karyn Kusama and Gina Prince-Bythewood among them) have made the grade, and so have a number of French ones (Agnès Varda primarily, but also Claire Denis and Céline Sciamma). Yet Criterion deserves particular praise for the spotlight it occasionally trains on an even more neglected group of distaff filmmakers, those from the former Eastern Bloc. True, the offerings, chiefly Larisa Shepitko’s “The Ascent” (Russia) and Márta Mészarós’s “Adoption” (Hungary), haven’t exactly been plentiful, but what’s there is cherce-to quote Spencer Tracy decidedly out of context. The latest addition to this small but significant list pairs two important films directed by Kira Muratova on a double-disc Blu-ray set. Though born to a Russian father and Romanian-Jewish mother in what is now Moldova, Muratova (pronounced moo-RAT-oh-vah) is today generally considered Ukrainian because of her decades-long professional association with Odesa, the city in which she made most of her movies and where she died in 2018 at age 83.
Can confirm that Channing is right! Moonstruck is just one example of Cher's "constant state of peak" - it's actually seemingly infinite. Scientists are baffled!
Orange 45 would pick a bunch of classic American films claiming to have seen them, yeah like anyone believes he sat through Gone With The Wind an almost 4 hour film lol.
@@zakwan10 "I've seen all the movies, nobody's watched more movies than I have folks, let me tell you, I've seen a yuuuuge amount of movies" -read it with the lisp-
@@zakwan10 I just wanna see him talk about any film in that kinda manner and exaggerate something about it among other things. Let’s not overlook the hand gestures, I know you can see him doing that in the closet. It’ll be comedy gold.
Finally someone mentions The Vanishing!! SHe describes it so well too. Not in a million years would I have guessed it was going to be Zoe Kravitz and Channing Tatum LOL
Finally! Someone brought up Akira Kurosawa films 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼; Rashamon and Seven Samurai are both iconic in their own way. During the opening sequence of Rashamon Kurosawa’s cameraman created the first tracking shot that wove through the trees of a wooded forest following a man running in the forest.
0:15 Same here, I’m happy we don’t get late fees anymore at the library. I been renting the same book for about 7 months now and only read half of it. I try to renew it every month and a half lmao
Iain't never heard of or seen Paris Is Burning, but they said the cinematography was top-notch, so I checked out the trailer. Man, the scenes are fire! ❤️🔥
Loving their couple vibes! ❤ plus, coincidence how both they and Carol Kane both point out The Fisher King. Criterion, please kindly make more of your library available in the UK, thank you 😊
I already absolutely love them for picking Harlan Coiunty, and for saying that Paris is Burning is the best documentary of all time. But that they also picked Fisher King and Moonstruck on top of that totally blew my mind. These two have incredible taste!
The kind of couple that can go anywhere do anything and the vibe stays the same. No matter what they are doing it’s a great time ❤ this is what it looks like when you have your person.
*REALLY excited for Don't Blink, I think his comfortability with her directing will make for a stellar performance from Channing, and her YSL Purienne book was dope*
Zoe is soo cute, loved seeing them together, it’s so obvious they’re perfect for each other. Only saw half of their movie pics so thanks for the insight.
