Hi, gonna need some advice from you on power requirement for similar dinghy that you got. Tried searching the internet but its confusing. Lets say for 10-12 ft inflatable dinghy...how much power in outboard one needs? Most of the time will be used to carry 2-3 adults. At what power will boat achieve plane? Also portability is the factor, living in apartment doesn't help with getting into water hobby. Looking for inflatable dinghy that can go about 10 miles off the shore where sea might get rough quickly. What's your recommendations?
The most power you can get on your dinghy. 2-3 adults is a lot more weight than I normally carry. I would get something like a 15 or 20hp. I think ~10 would be ok for 2 people and gear but for 3 people and gear probably not.
15-20hp is needed for 3 people on a 12ft boat. But are you are seriously thinking of going 10 miles off the coast with a 12ft inflatable? Just think about it again.
How do you carry a such heavy outboard? I have a Yamaha 6HP like you (I think you still have it) and I am also thinking in a Tohatsu 9.8 (my boat is a F-RIB 360, boat weight is 48kg), but 37kg are more 10kg than the weight the Yamaha 6HP has, and I am not the stongest person in the world...
the tohatsu 9.8 was tough to carry so i got rid of it and replaced it with the yamaha 6hp. No its not as fast but the weight reduction made a big difference.
