A felvétel Bécsben, a Baumgartner Casino-ban készült 1989 dec. 28 - 30 között. Ugyanakkor felvette még az Elégie, Serenade és Mélodie c. darabokat az op. 3-ból. Ebből Zoli az Elégie-t emlegette később, hogy milyen kár, hogy nem jelent meg a felvétel. A Serenade-t és a Mélodie-t később még egyszer felvette, a Philips 446 220-2 CD felvételének második fázisa alatt, 1994 dec. 19 - 21 között.
I might be four months late with this reply, but surprisingly, Philips is not the guilty party here; my father is. For some odd reason, he didn’t feel this was ‘good enough’ at the time. Crazy right? Later in life, he changed his mind and planned to make a sequel to his 2nd piano sonata album, which would have contained this very recording and the 1st piano sonata (Op. 28), among other things, but he sadly passed away before he could even set foot in the studio.@@fp8035
