this guy sounds like he's really stressed out about having to say all of that in front of a live audience but at the same time he has a weird niche interest that he's SUPER passionate about and I relate to that on some spiritual level
How would you feel if parasites killed someone you loved? Or affected their brain so they could no longer think? What if your child had one that caused dementia type symptoms but didn't die, so the child didn't grow & the brain never developed so they are like a 4 yr old for the rest of their life? How would you feel spiritually then? I ask because I am spiritual as well, & I'd like to know how you handle trauma/grief/loss as a spiritual person. Much Love
@@julielea8344 interesting comment... studying the parasites that killed a loved one would be a long spiritual journey. the need to understand is spiritual. so is finding a cure or a way to help the infected people.
"The trade off is that these lady bugs can heal. They can regrow their internal organs and go on with their lives".....that's not a trade off at all. A trade off would be "Oh hey I have super powers now that the parasite is gone."
No, no, you see, you get the sweet, intrinsically worthwhile experience of having been eat alive from the inside by parasites and live to tell the tale.
James76931 - Minecraft Videos How did you make your words font bold. Please tell me. I am curious how we can all do creative things with our writings here along with other hidden smiley too. Thank you if you could show tell us how to do it. :) :)
Since I hate cockroaches, spiders & ants, this video is like therapy for me. Now I know my nightmares have nightmares of their own, and that makes me happy inside 😄
Linus Linuthorax always some smart arse trying to educate me on the matter like I don't already follow National Geographic for years. I don't care, fuck off
madness3200 does knowing that you have a higher chance of being killed by a vending machine than in a shark attack make you want to go swimming with great whites? Knowing an arachnid's role in the ecosystem doesn't make them less unappealing to me. And besides, he's telling me what I already know from all my years reading & watching National Geographic. You too can fuck off
Poorly cooked beef, pork, chicken, fish and lamb are just as likely to make you sick. The difference? Insect parasites usually have a hard time in mammals. Mammalian parasites don't give a fuuuuuuuck.
This has to be one of the best docus produced in a long time, im sick of watching the mesmerize docus that only show great photography and play some awe inspiring music to dazzle there audience, yet learn almost nothing. What ever happened to great documentary's. Edit: ill pretend I didnt see the dubstep part =p
See, now here's the thing, I love insect normally. The only problem is, at this moment I am incredibly high and cant tell is the tingles on my skin are just me being manipulated by the thought that some of those insects might be crawling on me.. or tripping out.. ...I should just not be watching this
+ZukiChaaaaan OR maybe you should seriously consider NOT Getting High because, I promise you, reactions like the one you are discribing only get worse !
wow, mad respect for this guy's efforts and skills. honestly he went through a lot and if it was me i wouldnt even have the energy to do all this but u can defs tell he has real passion in his job. on another note... WE ARE ALL IN DANGER AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH
This was super interesting! Makes you wonder what we don't know about the mind. I have heard that our gut bacteria control much of our behavior/urges, especially food choice.
Our microbiome also seems to control our weight. They've done studies where they remove the gut bacteria from an obese rat and a skinny rat and switch them. The obese rat becomes skinny and the skinny rat becomes obese, while they both still eat the same amount of food
Amazing! I came across the thumbnail of the vid and thought to just take a peek but i ended up watching the entire thing instead of just checking it out and studying Diencephalons for my exam next week hahaha. I'm not even into parasites but wow. Just wow.
I have learned to appreciate the hard work behind these photographs today, my days, that's a lot of work and the level of creativity is beyond awesome.
It is amazing that a wasp can know, innately, how to do reach into the brain of a cockroach and do microsurgery on it's brain and paralyze it. That seems insane ! There is much more to their intelligence than we can even imagine .Mind blowing !
This is absolutely amazing. I didn't know parasites were this complex. I'm not sure if this made me like parasites more, but it definitely increased my respect for them.
Anand's passion in this is very remarkable. It makes me wonder why I'd wasted my life on nonsense when this guy actually invested his in a research worth millions. I admire the mind blowing knowledge bestowed upon us he genuinely taught us. *Encore*
Bug babies: Know how to control the hosts brain. Know how to avoid vital organs in order to not kill their host and then themselves. Know how to make protective cockuns (or however the fuck you spell it) Know how to survive afterwards. Human babies: Shit themselves. Don't know how to eat. Don't even know what is edible and what isn't. Don't know what the hell is going on around them. Can't go to sleep on their own. They are always crying. They cannot even walk from the beginning. There has to be some time before they can walk during which they cannot effectively move. Where did we go wrong as a species......
I find it amazing that a creature can evolve in these incredible and improbable ways. They are so specific and specialized that it is hard to understand how they evolve in these specific ways.
I guess you learn to "like" these things is by knowing how gross, scary, and fascinating they are. After watching this vid and writing this comment, I'm gonna go throw up and watch a kitten video or something. Uggghhh!
just the diversity of biology. if you think about very own reproductive system it can be pretty gross too. a male pent rates a female then injects her with seeds to make a baby grow inside her then 9 months later this thing called a human baby forces it's way out of her pretty much. pretty gross right?
+supercooled Yes, bodily functions are gross, obviously, however, gross, they are fascinating just like in this vid. The parasites are gross, certainly, but, as part of an ecosystem and nature, they are fascinating.
Yes! Just what brain structures or other brain elements does the stinger seek? How could this ability evolve entirely by trial and error? And this was only one of several known examples of parasitic manipulation-of-host behavior!
I like that Dubstep track played for the picture frame video of the worms exiting the crickets... Great presentation in this entire video in general too.
Very fascinating and creepy! One discrepancy though with the cockroach and wasp - actually the wasp snaps off the antenna opposed to using it to drag the roach. Scientists believe it's to test the amount of poison in the system..
Planets are not lifeforms. It is impossible to be a parasite to something not alive in a literal sense. Humans are just using the resources we can get just like all the other animals, but we are a tad smarter, so we should conserve more, because we can get a lot more.
@@solsosoup900 Out planet is one giant ecosystem, one giant life form that lives in balance with all it's creations. We are the only species on this planet completely destroying that balance. Your point is invalid.
@@daerthan I do agree we are throwing off the balance, but wouldn't you say that a lion, if given the chance, would have all of the prey in the world stacked up in it's lap? Humans are just normal animals harnessing their surroundings as any other would, but we are just SO much better at it. That is why we are not parasites, we are simply competing on a whole nother level.
@@daerthan and btw the balance created on the Earth was established by the prey's means, defense mechanisms, and ways of avoiding harm to counteract the predator. If the predators were to have their way, the world would swing in their favor instead, just like how it goes for humans. It's not like we are the only ones not playing nice.
Too late for me. I had a nightmare about me and my wife on a dinner date eating spaghetti. We had a lady and the tramp scene where we were sucking the worms out of each other.
