Zombie YouTubers Are Killing The Zombies Community 

Feel like this is a topic that really needed to be said. If you're a RU-vidr and you see your name or video mentioned in this video, please don't take it as hate or negativity towards what you've built up, consider it feedback and use it to improve yourself and the community as a whole or if you don't agree with what I have to say just ignore it and continue doing what you're doing. One thing I also dislike about the Zombies content is when a RU-vidr wants to make a video about a topic and discuss it, but they try to talk about it while playing an actual game of zombies. The problem with that is that they keep having to stop speaking or stutter because they also have to focus on the game. It's annoying, just record the gameplay and speak over it if you can't do both at the same time.

I'm not going to write this comment and glaze for no reason. This was a really good video, I respect the fact that you've called out so many creators (including myself) for what has been going on in the community. I can't expect a lengthy response because like you said we're pretty much only on neutral terms but I'm probably going to use this video as a learning curve for how to do better not only as a creator but just a member of the community. Actions do speak louder than words and that's a pretty tough pill to swallow. This video has genuinely changed my perspective a bit and I hope other creators begin to understand as well. If it's enough of a wakeup call for me to realise then anyone else I feel would just rather live in arrogance.

Very well said. You know it's bad when the original creator of a popular Zombies series/trend feels bad making content on the same thing that THEY MADE due to how many copycats emerge. I love inspiring people, having that ability is by far the best aspect of being a RU-vidr - but this is 100% hurting the channels that decide to copy, and it hurts to watch. Rushin also made a video talking about Plagiarism yesterday on his second channel, glad to see people stepping up and acknowledging the glaring problem. surprisingly good non boring video from ren wow who would've thought I'm kidding. you're one of the people I noticed trying new shit. Really cool to see. Throughout the last almost 2 years making zombies only content I tried to experiment with almost every video. I seldom doubled up on the success of a video(which is like a big nono I know) and throughout that process I actively avoided watching any other zombie creators to reduce the possibility of consciously or even subconsciously taking their idea. obv It was easier when there weren't as many creators. It's safe & convenient to look at what the best videos are and attempt to reproduce them to share or even take their spot in the algo. The problem is that, that works sometimes. And the feedback loop here is a crazy opportunity for any creator that wants to grow a channel and learn RU-vid as quick as possible. Zombies turned into a retail job with a high turnover rate. The smart ones get their experience and then leave for a larger audience in a different niche that's more receptive & appreciative of their artistic endeavors. And I can't blame them. I still plan on making zombies videos for a while because It's something I can enjoy. But the work to reward ratio in other communities/niche is much nicer. Especially when you finally have more of an understanding on how RU-vid works. Zombies audience loves their slop. And creators love to give it to them. So in a logical business sense, let them have it. As creators, it's very easy to spot who's only in on it for the money. But the viewers don't care. As long as they have 100 easily digestible perk and cne videos to watch that are all the same thing. This isn't even a problem with just zombies, it's a problem with media in general onset by the shift into primarily short form entertainment amongst other things. "Content" has to be more and more accessible than ever before. The video game, movie, music, and many other industries suffer just the same. People want surface level substance. Life is hard and it sucks, they want to relax at the end of the day and be spoonfed dopamine. Anyways, proffessional yapper, I ain't readin allat. I could go on forever. I appreciate you including me in the conversation. It's always nice to see someone willing to discuss things past the surface level. Even as something as innocuous as making zombies videos. This is how greatness is created.

Ive kinda been thinking similar stuff since i just cant find too much interesting content and people arent really attempting to change up the content and or bring anything new so i found it refreshing to find you and chrrism specifically trying out these interesting challenges and or maps so i appreciate you and your content for being refreshing and all since i feel you do a good job at being entertaining while having a new sort of spin on what you do and how you do it. Im surprised you arent a bigger channel than you are since you really deserve it.

Amazing vid! I appeared a couple times in this vid, pretty new to the zombies community, very good critiques and valid points made, I hope no other creator takes this as hate, it’s good motivation to spice up zombies content 👍

i think its also important to mention that even if you dont have a pc to get access to custom mods or maps, you can still have good original ideas for zombies content. theres plenty of things you can do on a console to make content that is unique to you. ive had plenty of ideas i can do on a console that involves the base maps on the current and prior games.

Really well put together video and glad uv said what alot of people are thinking and done in a way where hopefully people can learn.

I would love to see more coop gameplay, just in general. I was a youth in the beginning of the community, when in my opinion it was either Next Gen Tactics or Syndicate, Z house i suppose later on and noahj. In my opinion one of the biggest missing elements is the actual sense of community, every creator does almost everything solo. Part of why I enjoy this channel so much has been frequent EEs and such with other people. I can't help but wonder why there are no "4 player 1 box challenge" where everyone just has fun, and jokes around and need reviving because they're trying to lead trains into the unlucky fellow with a ballistic knife. Modded maps in coop, race to reverse rainbow perk challenge could be fun. Even trying to camp in parts of the map as a team, or map wide training strategies, host lobbys with subs and make little highlight reels doing any types of challenges that way it wouldnt always require other creators. I'm staying subbed regardless, you keep it honest

My biggest issue with the community was RU-vidrs hyping games before release, criticizing them harshly, then later claiming they were great. Their views are driven by nostalgia and a desire for clicks. Many started during the Black Ops 3 era and now focus on making quick money and low-quality content. They criticized Black Ops 2 at launch but later praised it. They called Advanced Warfare the end of zombies, then said it wasn't bad. They hated parts of Black Ops 3 until "Zombies Chronicles" was released. They bashed Infinite Warfare and World War II zombies, only to later praise them. The same pattern repeated with Black Ops 4 and Cold War. Now, with Black Ops 6, they're hyping it up, only to inevitably express disdain at launch.

As much as I love zombies, a lot of the content did get old. Watching your videos, did bring back the fun vibes. I recently came across another zombies channel called withFriends. They brought up some new ideas, and it does kinda feel like you're just gaming with friends

I've also noticed a little hypocrisy with some creators, with them bashing COD for slacking innovation and then proceeding to make the same video everyone else made/is making. And it just becomes my entire timeline. That is always how its been and its just very lazy. Looking at creators like You Always Win, who were one of the first channels to fully cover so much custom zombies content, for multiple games. People can take inspiration from that or just fill in the gaps of missed custom content and still can be successful

another amazing content was the content creator tournament. that type of content has a huge potential of benefit the comunity, and the fact that it hasnt been done more frequently is crazy

This is a thing that's happening in general, not just zombies. There is no originality anymore and when there is, people dunk on it.

cant lie for the longest time I've wanted to get into zombies content, cause well I love zombies, but seeing the brain rot half the community puts out now is deffo a turn off for me

It pained me but I had to unsubscribe from NoahJ and MrT. Pioneers of the community we all loved, now making clickbait titles and thumbnails making half assed "reactions" to other peoples hard work and getting more views and money than the real creator. its disgusting and literal stealing imo.

Going off the SMP thing, I feel like if people started making SMP-like zombie channels where 4 people make content together (challenges, EEs, HRs, etc.) it would breathe some decent life back into the community

Honestly, early on with my channel I definitely tried to jump on the cause & effect train. I didn’t think too much of it at the time. I did change the titles a little bit but my thumbnails were way too similar to FPSpsycho. I had to reevaluate back then after I noticed so many others doing it and I remember thinking this isn’t right. I rarely do cause & effect anymore but when I do I feel like my thumbnails have their own personality now. Also with the 50+ perks I did something similar but with 20 perks over on Bo2. Crazy how many hopped on that one.

Tbh, the only Zombies content I've really enjoyed recently are shreebington's Presidential Zomboys videos, and your videos (especially the Easter Egg videos, as that was how I found your channel). It's sad that Zombies is in a state that it's in rn. 🙁

Yeah it's crazy that my favorite "zombies" youtuber is VanossGaming, and he isn't even a zombies youtuber. He just played it every once in awhile with his friends, put on a modded map, and had a blast.

I feel if there is one thing that saddens me about the zombies community is that if there is a big creator like NoahJ456 or MrT, and they do not like a new zombies map that came out. Then that leaves a bad taste for a lot of other community members or even people who may be interested in wanting to join. Especially if they really aren’t being critical about the map, and just throw hate out because it’s easy. For example, when Attack of the Radioactive Thing came out, Noahj456 always said how much he hates the map for being too big, hates the Brute Crog, some EE steps and so on… Even though, the map is not even that terrible in retrospect given the map is literally a big circle with nicely placed shortcuts and paths. The EE is seriously not THAT complicated either. (The chemical step is literally just finding the radio saying your solution and then adding numbers together to create your bomb) just sad since it’s actually what I believe a decent to great map, lots of space to train, give yourself a challenge and the boss is incredibly fun. Sure it may not look the best, but… personally… sometimes that adds even more charm to a map. And I know Lex is Lex, but come on… When he hates something. Sometimes he gives terrible reasons why. People thought Radioactive Thing was complicated… how about Gorod Krovi with the trophy step where it’s random, each step is different… AND FOR THE BOMB IF YOU MISS IT AND DONT KNOW THE ORDER YOU LITERALLY DIE UNLESS YOU TAKE THR DRAGON TO FLY AWAY AND BE SAFE! anyways, that’s my rant. I do love zombies. But god damn I haven’t bought COD since IW since zombies has gone so downhill after that.. (hot take or not, but zombies is just not good or engaging like it used to be)

As a small zombies RU-vidr, I agree with this statement, I moved to speed running and gained a slightly bigger audience doing as such. But none of my original content got any views so I deleted them. Im trying to make videos, and I thought for a good fourteen seconds, “Can I beat every non-treyarch map in 14 hours” it really is that hard to come up with new ideas, because everyone is sleeping on the non-treyarch games just make some videos on those, but thats my input, good video renzaru (p.s i love you 😘)

I like how people are finally starting to call out big Zombies youtubers' bullshit. Genuinely Lex alone has done so much shitty stuff to the community it's surreal. That stuff aside, I appreciate you talking about these problems with the zombies community, it's been really rough years lately and as someone who grew up and started playing and interacting with the community around bo1 launch it feels so bad to see the direction the community is heading towards. I hope we, as a community learn and keep moving forward instead of bringing each other down, because I love these games, I love to interact with the community, and I love supporting great content creators for the zombies game mode, and it'd be a shame if we keep making the same mistakes over and over again.

I think this is defenitly a youtube problem but you do see it alot in zombies. As a small zombies youtube i'll say my main thing is i need to research the ideas i have more for example i did a 50+ perk challenge but I did a custom map but I noticed after I published it, it was already made. I couldn’t agree more personally. Theres also an issue with gatekeeping in the zombies community. I enjoy bo3 and played it a TON from 2015-2018, but It seems like a lot of members in this community get superiority complexes from the fact they played that title, and they disregard and look down on other members of the community’s who are newer and didn’t get to experience it. People who enjoyed cold war zombies often get dogpiled in replies. Ofc they are entitled to their own opinions on the newer zombies titles, But that level of elitism isn’t healthy for the mode, and will drive new players away.

He watched the entire thing on stream and then uploaded a five and a half hour stream highlight video him watching the video. Keep in mind the EruptionFang's video is six hours and forty five minutes long. Dude pretty much reuploaded most of the video.

What sort of hardware do you need to record? I’ll have to look into it because I thought about making some RU-vid videos. Nothing like the challenges every other Ztuber does but I noticed that since coming back to zombie with my mates, the games are hilarious! We’re not massively skilled but the commentary and laughs me and my mates have is very very funny and I reckon people might watch it. We’re 25 now and it had been years since we played together like we do on Zombies

Stopped at 8:19 in to comment(I am guilty of the 50 perks and in my first vid of it I said “I watched FPSPsycho’s vids on it and it just looked fun”) and you’re 100% right. I’ve done stuff on my channel that’s 100% from other people and have mentioned them extensively, linked their channel, and made sure any support goes to them for whatever it is I’m doing. If I make a vid someone has it’s always “this is theirs, I did not make this, but I’m playing zombies for fun and that looked like so much fun.” Like you specifically got me wanting to do map speedruns and it’s not to rip your content it’s bc you make it look enjoyable. I think as long as the inspiration or credit is heavily pushed and it’s not just for clicks on their own channel and we’re supporting one another and just enjoying zombies it’s fine. But straight ripping stuff, mentioning them once, nothing in a description, or doing it for clicks and not doing something you’re actually having fun with or doing for your enjoyment is killing the community rn. The zombies community crapping on Bo4 is what killed zombies. They made creative maps, with hard easter eggs and challenging gameplay and people complained about the UI (that's cluttered in every game since Bo3) and that the EEs were too difficult. So every game since has been pathetically easy with incredibly simple EEs.

Honestly i hope this gets way more views so that people can actually listen and understand why zombies content has been so bad for uears now, I'll support youtubers and twitch streamers (very few though) and what not but it never takes away from the fact that content has literally been copied and pasted for years, i used to watch codenamepizza consistently but honestly i got real tired of just seeing the easter eggs get done every time like why not try and exceed your highest rounds for each map or just something fresh at least 😂 its like watching constant reruns of your favourite show until you get sick of it 🤷‍♂️

As a small creator I see all these Easter egg trends and 50+ perks trends it’s it’s very tempting to copy because I probably will get more views but I rather stay honest to myself then get more views I 💯agree with u abt the copying catting problem

I feel like the only reason other youtubers coping content is ok is because it might give you a different perspective on how others play the games and they might even have content other youtubers didn't include in there videos

I will say, the Rhoman title for the gauntlet video does say “I tried”. Kind of a bad example. Definitely agree with the sentiment and points made. Personally, I never made zombies content because of some of these reasons. Its sad to see how something that made my childhood has fallen so far

I really think the targeted attacks on RU-vidrs in older cods like bo3 is a big reason for the problem. Everything was good until they couldn’t play online or together anymore

My top 3 zombies creators are 1) Samuel the 17th (doesn't upload, miss the high round content a lot), 2) Lex (nostalgia really, since syndicate and lex were the first zombie creators I watched on yt), and 3) chrrism (doesn't upload, entertaining content). I agree with the overused/milked content. Like the 50+ perks vids. Watched like 2 fps psycho vids on it and one from someone else, and stopped clicking on them since... it got old🤷🏻‍♂️ same with watching ee runs, whether it's speed runs or in so many hours. Seen it done so many times that unless it's some new tech in the speed run or something new, it's just repetitive. Doesn't matter who makes it, the zombies community is very small so we all see everyone's vids pop up in our recommended. And when the thumbnails or content is exactly the same. I either don't click it or watch for a min or two and click off cause it's the same thing I've seen again and again. Would love if more content creators would play with each other and goof around on regular/custom maps like the vanoss crew does. Those were top notch vids back on bo3 with Noah, lex, and all the others did that as well.

Especially these big cod zombies creators always stealing content from others and never doing something original (besides noahj456). The best example would be mrtlexify the kind of fell off this guy had over the last years is so sad all he does is react to other people's content or steal video ideas from other creators it's so sad what has happened to him.

While these clickbait titles are awful, i do understand that it is very difficult to come across new content in the zombies community. If these people can't put their own spin on the video, then they should switch content. You have to be creative in the zombies community nowadays. It's awful that they're not even doing round based anymore. They're killing the creators. there's nothing you can do in outbreak and MWZ now

4:45 Yeah, that's fair. While I tried to make the actual video a bit different by doing all of maxis & richtofen side & all chronicles eggs, the thumbnail & title are just blatant copies. I'm not saying this as an excuse but the reason for the blatant copy of the tags, thumbnail, & title was simply because of the mentality of, "If it worked for him, then it can work for me". I genuinely thought if I titled it differently, or changed the tags, or had a terrible thumbnail, then it wouldn't get any views at all. Nothing else. (Just so you know, there is no beef)

as somebody who watches a LOT of content centered around zombies content, I just wish people would just respect one another more and actually give each other shoutouts instead of being as toxic and selfish as they've been. I've watched so many people throughout the years and most of 'em left because of the "lack of content" when in actuality its just them being too lazy and being unable to milk the same content they've been milking throughout the years. I don't get why people can't just shout one another out and make the community more positive and inviting rather than what it is right now, its all just the same content but with different creators, there's almost nothing unique left anymore which is REALLY upsetting, especially to people like me who don't care enough to watch anything related to MW3. its upsetting.

Definitely an interesting view on the community. I do think that there is an issue with people copying each other and not just in the zombies community. I truly don't mean to self promo here but I am planning on starting to make zombies content however, I don't just want to copy what everyone else is doing just because it works for them. I do think something like 50+ perks could be an interesting video but not if everyone has done it before. That's like me making an easter egg guide on all the black ops 3 zombies maps. everyone has done it and its outdated. I would rather see more zombies content creators reach out to each other and make content together that way its their personality that people are there for as well. Imagine this. I want to do a zombies spawn room challenge. It has been done THOUSANDS of times before so no one really cares to watch right? Now the exact same thing but with a twist. Zombie spawn room challenge but using advanced warfare movement or something random like that. Is that original? YES, you have taken an idea done before many times, added a twist to it and if you bring someone else its even better. Overall people need to stop gatekeeping content and look for other creators/friends that would make the content more original/fun.

Same thing happened to minecraft content where everyone jumps on the same trends lets say 100 days hardcore & than do the exact same concepts such as recreating every biome or making an end base to the point I've watched so many of these videos I have to question if I have seen that exact video before, but it is different just repetitive. No one has a personality to drive this kind of content, the whole vibe is 110 energy at all time. I miss the more relaxed RU-vid gaming scene. In general, MC youtubers always trying to do bigger, better each video makes casuals hate themself for not being able to do what they see on RU-vid cause they don't have 100's of hours for a silly block game.

I think theres one more reason. Treyarch trying to do new things and the zombies communities toxicity to them. If they kept with what they wanted to do with VG zombies it would have probably turned out to be a good mode with more time to cook. but the zombies community wanted to be the most toxic savage animals and forced the small team to pivot to round based.

MrTLexify is the most overrated person in the community tbh, 95% of his videos are either clickbait or him watching someone elses video with a title that makes it seem like he put any effort into the video (great vid btw😘)

Theres alot wrong w the community and alot of tubers have been a catalyst for this kind of stuff since the end of revelations. Didnt help when alot of people dunked on cold war when it was solidly the most coherently good game we've had since black ops 1 in terms of quality. (bo3's launch was horrific with the bugs and glitches, alot of people forget that). The lore guys atleast have been eating good since Cold War, the story is much easier to follow and actually has consistent writing, so that side has been doing good (aside from RoflWaffles, who imo fell off massively after bo3)

hear me out, What if a zombies youtuber tried to play a board game while doing an easter egg. like get 3 friends 1 who likes board games one who loves zombies you gotta play zombies with one of them and try to beat the other at fuckin Candyland or something and if you lose at one you gotta restart. I feel like if your gonna use the same idea as someone esle you should ask and credit them in the title like "Doing Renzura's Easter Egg Challenge". I feel like the most unique zombies youtuber is YouAlwaysWin and they just do there own style and stay out of everythimg.

in regards to the gameplay channels, I would like to play devil's advocate. as interesting as many of the maps and mods are in customs, many of the maps/mods are derivatives of previous maps/mods. for example, there's a family guy map, a Simpsons map, and a breaking bad map I played with my friend a while back, all of them are the same concept of being in the neighborhood of the main character's houses. there's very little to differentiate between them. it's a bit Ironic now that I think about it. you suggest that youtubers pick from the massive pool of maps/mods that are in customs and not to play the exact maps/mods that other creators are playing, yet the majority of those maps/mods are copied concepts. speaking of irony, another thing about the massive pool of content is that it's almost impossible to determine what would be an interesting map/mod to cover because there's too many of them. when you have the amount of content spanning in the thousands, viewers are just incapable of being interested in all of them. so the youtube creator has to pick out a map that somehow stands out significantly from thousands upon thousands of maps every single video. youtube creators can't just roll the dice and pick a random map to play because of that. specially since gameplay channels have gameplay as the viewer's priority, and the creator's personality is a secondary factor. with these two factors, it's common for gameplay channels to get little to no views on their videos. and as I creator myself, spending a portion of your time making videos that you think would work only for it to not go as well as you want it to isn't a good feeling. it's much easier to copy the person getting the views since you know that has a higher chance of working for you. now again, this is me playing devil's advocate. I personally think that making your own content is much better in the long run. relying on trends instead of going your own risky path will eventually turn your channel into a conveyer belt of passionless videos. something I certainly wouldn't want for myself or any other fellow creator

a great example of using the workshop is noahj456 and YAW. Hell noahj furthers that by starting to host custom map competitions for money and YAW has always been known in the zombies community just by playing custom zombies maps.

Nice vid. I too saw waayyyy to many 50 perks vids, took forever to get out of my already messed up algorithm. It doesn't help that the few people left in zombies are mainly in BO3, while those who move on keep getting disappointed by newer zombies releases and possibly leaving, while bo3 is in limbo with the same vanilla maps (thanks goodness for mods). Moreover, bo3 is still at full price, so newer potential players are likely discouraged form getting into the game. I saw a noahj vid sometime ago where he hosted a map competition which had some pretty cool ideas by the community modders, those maps looked really cool. I also noticed that my Rofl feed spiked when MWZ released and he was just pumping out content 3 times a day, had to unsub because it got too repetitive as opposed to interesting theories or guides. Quite an unfortunate state, but it makes sense.

Back then the community seemed like a bunch of friends that decided to make zombies content together, not people who wanted to grow their channels with clickbait. It was so authentic and fun dude, I miss having inside jokes with the entire community, no matter what channel you were on. It was sick

I like lex, but his titles are more misleading than anything, and he doesn’t have any original content. I like Tim hansens personality, Noah j is also getting under my skin recently too. But I like you’re channel because you do you’re own thing, you’re your own person, not trying to pander to everybody

The 50+ perk thing is actually a bigger issue than you think lol. You credit fpssycho (I can’t check how it’s spelled right now) for the 50+ perk thing but just before fps made his vids, I watched the same challenge done by another guy, angel6t4, using the same mod and doing the same thing way earlier. Fps either just had the same idea naturally, or copied angel and from there other people are copying fps. I’m not claiming he stole the idea, and even if he did who really cares, angel did it forever ago and playing another person’s mod isn’t like, intellectual property. Anyways your first real point is actually more significant than you explain in the vid.
