Zone 2 Cleaning for the FIRST TIME | Working the Fly Lady System 

I've been following Flylady for 22 years. Needless to say my house is decluttered, my kids are grown and out of the house. I do my A.M and P.M routines and this makes the zone cleaning very easy. It literally takes 15 minutes a day. All this to say I clean under my fridge every month. As well as under the stove, dishwasher, washer and dryer. It's fast and easy because it doesn't have time to get dirty lol. As someone whose done this for years, let me just advise you that you are doing way too much at one time. Sweetie, please slow down and trust that it will eventually get to where you want it. Love watching these videos. I hope you continue to film your journey even after the first month on the program. Would love to see how it gets easier for you!

First and foremost; I absolutely adore you, your personality and your family! I appreciate how honest and real you are. You had me choking laughing about the wedgie! Hahaha As far as under the fridge cleaning- I always heard you should pull all your appliances out once a year for a spring cleaning of vents, coils, etc. That being said, even though I know that and used to do it as I get older and that is harder to tackle it definitely does not happen once a year. I also think having dirty dishes constantly in the sink and such is just a normal part of a house being a home. There is only 3 of us in my household and even with the dishwasher there’s always some type of dishes in the sink no matter how many times a day I empty it. Lol. Hang in there I think you are doing great!

I've been doing flylady the secret slob way for a few years now... Rarely do the zones, focus on the other daily routines. Just a reminder you don't need to do all the zone items every round. Do what you can and continue on where you left off last time. 3-6 months later it's magic and easier every time! Cheering you on!!!

Loved your opening! As for the fridge, I pull mine out every quarter or every 3 months- after a spill in front of the fridge by my husband years ago (I wasn’t home when it happened) where a lot of the spill went under the fridge and the proceeded to smell and I couldn’t “find” the source. Even a few months later of scrubbing everything and everywhere in my kitchen EXCEPT under and behind the fridge, my husband finally told me about the spill and that he cleaned it up, and I asked if he had pulled the fridge out to make sure the gallon of liquid (jar of pickles) hadn’t seeped under the fridge- he gave me this look of “why do that?”, so we pulled the fridge out and there it was! Black, sticky, dead bugs and dust bunnies in it like the La Brea Tarpits along with other common things that get under a fridge like legos, dried rice, magnets, etc. Bleach was our friend that day 🤢! It had probably been a few years that it had been pulled out prior to that, so now, I pull it out once every 3 months- usually when it’s the day before or the day of a grocery shopping day so that fridge is lighter to move since it’s pretty empty and that’s when I clean the inside of the fridge and freezer! You did awesome by the way!

I have not pulled my fridge out in awhile, but I do vacuum the front grill. Lots of pet hair! Just a few tips, once you clean and de-grease top of cabinets put wax or parchment paper down so next time only have to replace paper. Oven: after spraying down put cling wrap on it so the spray stays damp and works better. You are doing an amazing job!!

Have never seen behind my fridge. Been in this house 1 year and 4 months and haven't seen back there. Definitely believe in no judgement from me! At least you are cleaning and moving forward! Great job!

Tip I use for cleaning the fridge shelving. Fill the bathtub with Dawn and water. Put the pieces in the tub and use a new toilet brush to scrub, then rinse. Less mess in the kitchen.

Wow, you did a lot! My understanding of this system is that you put a timer on for like 15 - 30 minutes, and do whatever you can in that time in that zone, every day for a week. And then the next time you are in that zone (next month), you can check off some more on the list. In other words, everything does not have to be checked off in one day, or even in one week. I am amazed at all you did, and with a smile on your face. :)

Pink Stuff is AMAZING! Tip- use it to clean shower screens and mirrors. Take a sponge. Wet and squeeze out. Take dab of Pink Stuff and rub over mirror. Leave to dry. Buff off with dry cloth. Shiny! And it doesnt fog in steamy room! X

Hi Shannon! I'm married to an HVAC and appliance repair man, so he takes care of cleaning behind/under the fridge, the filter in a dishwasher, the dryer exhaust vent, etc. He does most of it a couple times a year. We have 2 kitties and 2 parrots, so he cleans behind the fridge a little more often to help keep everything running well. All the feathers and hair clog up the condenser. I hate to admit it, but I would probably rarely do any of it if I didn't have him. Lol! I really need to hit zone 2 hard, but I'm dreading it. Thanks for the inspiration! The tops of my cabinets are sooo dusty and my blinds are nasty. It's tempting to buy new blinds because they're so bad! Ick! I get caught in the perfectionism and all or nothing traps too. It's hard for me to start when I know I will have to do something imperfectly, but I am learning to embrace progress over perfection. I have a limited number of spoons to work with these days. I just cleaned under my fridge last night. I’ve lived in my apt for 4.5 years and I’ve never done it before. It was so so so bad 😩 but I’m glad I got it done. I’ve been doing fly lady for a full 5 weeks now and I am loving it. It’s the best cleaning schedule I’ve never found. It’s so doable and not overwhelming. I agree with the other comment about jump in where you are. I don’t think the house has to be perfect to start the program in terms of clutter. That will go away in time. If you add declutter to your weekly zone, it’ll end up getting decluttered in time. You’ll get burnt out trying to declutter a whole home while also doing daily routines and zone cleaning on top of normal life of being a mom/wife.

You are my current go to for declutter videos because you are real - wedgy and all.

I clean behind my fridge and stove every 4-6 months. I also clean the tops of my cabinets every 3 months. My cats like to sit up there. I didn't notice the wedgie until you mentioned it. Good for you for embracing it. Love your personality!

You definitely have a keeper there! My husband would have done it but gagging all the time! We moved from one townhouse to another townhouse when my 1st child was 18 months old! The owner of the townhouse we were moving into had evicted the previous renters. The day we were supposed to move in the previous renters weren't around and they hadn't moved everything!! Sheriff's office had to come and remove the locks. We ended up moving in the back patio door as the previous renters moved there stuff out the front door! Yes, they finally showed up!! Never cleaned out their fridge or behind it and the stove was stuck to the floor....pot of grease had been dumped behind it pot and all!! Poor owner was beside himself and gave us break on our rent!

Sweetie you don’t have to get everything on your zone list done! If you only get 2 things on it done this week your golden. There’s always next month😀 Live following your channel!

I pull my fridge out every couple years. Recently I pulled it out, and it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. I did buy a long cloth on a stick that slides under the fridge. It removed dust, dog hair, and other dirt. It took a few times, however it did work. And, it is machine washable. 👏🏻👏🏻

The only reason I clean behind my fridge and stove regularly in my current house is because they are pretty much free standing so it's easy to kove them. My other houses I dont think I ever did😂

I have not done it in 4 years! Yikes! That's when we bought our new one. Bless our husbands that help with a project like this.

I do my cleaning of back/underneath of refrigerator, every few months. Also, put on list clean junk drawer(s) & storage areas. You could take to put travel packages with utensils /napkins & straws for tumblers in their own locations for on the go moments.

I have used the flylady system for 5 yrs.and I love it! I have learned so much about getting my home and life organized. Stay with it and you will be amazed how it helps. I am subscribing to watch your progress. Good luck!

I cleaned behind and under my fridge in the fall for the first time in about 5 years! 😀 thanks for another motivating and enjoyable video. I am excited about how easy this zone will be in a couple of months when you are caught up on all of the things that haven't been done in awhile, like the crime scene under the fridge, lol!

I clean behind my fridge and oven about every six months. That way it’s never hard and not a lot of work. Plus vacuuming out the fridge filter makes it run more efficiently

I clean behind my fridge and stove twice a year when I spring clean and again when I do fall cleaning. Living in NJ Keep at it.

I have a self cleaning oven now but when I didn't you can slightly open door and pull up and take the door off oven. Then you can reach in there and scrub better. Simplifies things!!

You go Shannon💪, and Steven thumbs up for being so supportive of your wife. Shannon if you use zone cleaning a bit loosely you will get behind the fridge maybe twice a year...big win! My fridge will also (maybe) moved twice this year to be honest (after 4 years...I am really proud with such an improvement) FLY lady system helps me to keep routines and reminders of the big cleaning tasks, to help me, not to give me more stress with more To Do lists. Try it as a support system not to improve yourself, you are already good enough (I am Dutch so excuse my English if it is to bad)

I have cleaned under the frig twice in six years. One because we moeit😀you look so good in the blue shirt you had on when cleaning under the frig!

Great job! I did Fly Lady years ago - like 17 years ago! I liked it, not sure why I dropped it! I have been thinking about getting back to it, and you've inspired me.

I noticed you have drip marks between the panes of glass in your oven. I just recently learned that if you open your oven door and unscrew the top part, you can easily clean between the panes! I've had drip marks on mine for forever and just learned how to clean it, so I thought I would pass that along in case you wanted to tackle it the next time you're in zone 2! You did a great job. I love your videos and you always inspire me to tackle my house

The good thing is that you know you will come back to it next time. And eventually you will have to spend less and less time on it because you do it on a regular basis

I try to clean under mine twice a year. But honestly I probably have managed to do it only once a year. I usually get behind there to clean and vacuum the fan on the fridge so the fridge doesn't have to work as hard with all the dust on the fan area. You're doing a good job , Shannon.

My husband and I clean under our stove and fridge about twice a year. I have a microwave cleaning hack for you. I put a coffee mug full of water in and microwave it for 3 or 4 minutes and then let it sit while I am cleaning something else--usually 5 or so minutes. The steam from the water loosens all the gunk and it's so easy to wipe out.

I try to get it every 6 months or at least once a year. I get back there and vacuum the coils to keep it running well. Having pets will have you doing it to keep up with the fur balls that you know are back there.

I’m so proud of you for starting over on your high usage areas! I have the same issues but include my upstairs bathroom and living room too. No matter what I do they NEVER stay clean. I clean under my appliances annually (whatever Saturday is closest to April 1). I have shedding dogs and broke a refrigerator by not vacuuming up the dog hair from the fan area.

I'm late but I'm here...!!!!.we bought a house 2 years ago..bought new appliances...haven't moved 1 appliance out yet to clean behind it!!!

About every four years! I too will add that task a little more to my to do as, from memory, last time I had to get down and scrape up cemented in grub off the floor just like you did. It's just and unseen space and therefore unthought of - that list you have is what's needed to keep it in mind!

LOVE that there was a copy of a cleaning plan behind your fridge! Ha! I've lived in my house almost 3 years, and haven't ever moved the fridge to clean behind/under it. Definitely need to do that, and the stove, too. I'm new to your channel and I love the honesty, which I much prefer to watching people clean/organize their PERFECT homes.

I LOVE the FlyLady! I found her many many (many) years ago when my kids were little (they are in college now). One of my favorite things is "15 minutes". The other was getting rid of things 27 items at a time. It look a LONG time -- but once a week, I would drop a bag at goodwill (didnt always have 27 items but sometimes it had MORE).

We clean under my fridge spring and fall. But my hubby was in the USMC and they're a little obsessive about cleaning (and he is the one doing it 😀).

I feel the under the fridge mess. I moved it for the first time when I was painting the kitchen- 4 years after we moved in. I was impressed by how bad it wasn't. But I got it clean!

Do what you can as you can 🥰. I probably pull out my fridge about every 6 months and try to vacuum around and behind it every month or so.

I loved this video. I am so glad you had your husband's help with the fridge move and above the kitchen units. I have help to do these things and many other things that I would find to hard for me to do. You got so much done. My advice to both you and myself is to keep up with my dishes counters and hotspots daily so when I tackle zone cleaning it will take less time. Monday's zone cleaning for me helps to make zone cleaning on other days much easier. Your cutlery turned out great . Mine is full of everything and so untidy. Great job. Well done you. Jodi Dunn on You Tube cleaned her oven using Pink Stuff and a Scrub Daddy sponge and had excellent results. And no fumes. You may want to give that a try next time. Love your channel and your motivation, sense of humor and for keeping it real. TFS.

About a month ago, the guy installing my tv service pulled the fridge out. There was nothing under there. the people I bought the house from either cleaned it out or it was clean on its own. Yay!!!

I have open top cabinets to. I put paper towels on top so I don't have to clean them, just change the towels.

Honestly it's probably been 3 or 4 years since I've moved ours. It's a tight fit & not easy to manage. Kuddos to hubby for cleaning behind the fridge. I laughed so hard about your wedgie. Lol! We have all been there.

I did fly lady pre Covid and really had it together. However I've let it all go to junk over the last year. SOOOOO I searched fly lady to get some new inspiration and found you. I cleaned behind mine a few weeks ago. I can't move the fridge, so I was waiting for my husband to move it for me. It was the first time I had cleaned behind it in at least 4 years. It looked almost as bad as yours without the spill...but that's pretty pathetic considering we're empty nesters 😆I think in the future I will try to do it once a year during Spring Cleaning. I can't see the point in doing it more than that. Oh, and your husband is a sweetheart!
