I'm kinda late, but you forgot about the "other" game, that one people never talks about. Zone of the Enders - The Fist of Mars, aka "Testament" for the gameboy advance. The game itself takes place in 2173, after ZOE1 and before ZOE2. And as for it's relation with Dolores, I honestly don't know, haven't watched that yet... and despite ZOE FoM being the less known game of a franchise that's not even sucessful, and also being a game for the GBA, belive it or not, still counts as canon to the Zone of the Enders franchise, despite never being mentioned officialy again. Also, it was released shortly after the first game, still in 2001, meaning that this IS the true ZOE2, despite not being a direct sequel to ZOE1, or to make it simple, it's a side story to the one of Jehuty and Anubis, the same with dolores, because as far as I know, that is an original story, only making references and such, but not actually being the main focus, if you know what I mean. Both still canon tho. And ironically, Fist of Mars is the story with most character development and progression between the three games. After all, since the other two mainly focused on combat, this one, for it's limitations, couldn't do the same thing. So they focused a lot in story, meaning the game itself is almost entirely text based. The other parts being gameplay, which is... uh... different, to say the least... Instead of "High Speed Robot Action"; we get "No Speed At All, Turned Actions. Jokes aside, the gameplay was alright, not bad, but not completely annoying. You could even play as LEVs instead of having only an Orbital Frame the entire game, in fact, this game has the most mechs in the entire series, from playable LEVs to OFs! And the best part about Fist of Mars was as I said, the story; that to me, beats the other games, speciallly because of it's characters... well, some of them, at least. The music was also exeptional, being one of the best soundtracks ever released in the GBA system, belive me...! Holy cow, I talked a lot again! Anyway, if you seven years later still didn't knew about that game, now you do, and I would recommend you playing it, if you ever read all this, of course.
