One of the most divisive decisions the Cincinnati Zoo has made in recent years was replace what once displayed rare hoofstock, including the Sumatran rhino - with a kangaroo walk-thru attraction... Realistically speaking - it'd be too late to drastically reverse this decision. If I became director of the Toronto Zoo, i'd: - Move the current Australasia section over to where the Indian Rhino/Tahr paddocks and Malaysian Woods are. The Babirusa paddock can become a new Komodo Dragon exhibit, while the Rhino/tahr paddocks can become kangaroo exhibit, and add Cassowaries. I like that bird. - Turn Tundra Trek and a part of Wild Eurasia (as well as the former Australian pavilion) into new broad Canadian section.
If I became director of the Philadelphia zoo which is the closest major zoo to where I live I would turn the area that used to have wild dogs and maned wolves into an exhibit for either Bighorn sheep or Mountain Lion. And I would bring back the small mammal house by returning the animals that were taken out of it but also add in new species like mouse deer, Night monkey and many others. Change where the red pandas and otters are back into carnivore kingdom but with new and returning species like clouded leopard, Fishing cat, Bobcat, wolverine, North American river otter. Get rid of the watusi cattle and bring back antelopes and storks, move the red river hogs to where they were before, Bring back Capybara and Mara’s and Add Pacas, Pacarana and Viscachas, bring back rhino hornbills into the aviary and bring extend the aviary to where the predatory birds are and Build an aviary based on the forests of Britain with Capercaillie, Scottish Crossbill, Osprey and an aviary for the white tailed sea eagle and a bigger aviary for Bald eagles and salmon.
At my local zoo we have an empty enclosure that used to be home to capybaras but for some reason there is climbing equptment in it so I would add Gorillas in to that enclosure. (Sydney Zoo by the way)
@@Garryzilla whahahahaha, yes they do sell burgers. But the real reason they named it after delicious food is because the founders last name was Burger. (true story, in NL and BE there even was a tv series about the Burgers family and how they combine their life with running the zoo)
There’s also two types of actual mangrove trees featured in the exhibit! When you visit try to find the black mangroves near the manatee bridge. If you carefully rub your finger under on of the leafs and then lick your finger it’ll be salty :D Trick from one of my marine ecology lecturers
Watching these videos makes me feel like I’m actually at the zoo. Looking forward to the debut of the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. If I became the director of my local zoo (Atlanta) I would add a South American section and add animals like anteaters, jaguars and tapirs. Keep up the great work, Zach 👍
This was a great video! Now the change I would make as zoo director at my home zoo, the Albuquerque Biopark Zoo, would be to make a Llanos de Venezuela exhibit. This would be done after the zoos Australia expansion is complete and would use the old Red Kangaroo yard , the unused and old My big backyard exhibit, and the park stretch. It already has a great newer jaguar exhibit and mountain lions near by. The area on the natural calls for the whole zone being called the americas anyway. The exhibit would have a new home for the zoos capybara ( residents recently passed but I would have to have more), wetland birds that were were moved or previously on display before the new penguin exhibit, caimans (would be new to the collection) , and a new indoor section to show off the zoos Anaconda, matata, and piranha, and though from Brazil a proper display for the zoos Golden Tamarins. Changes made based of my personal bias and college field research. This would also allow for new additions to the reptile house as well.

Sounds like it I know. But actually the man that started the zoo was called Johan Burgers. So the zoo is named after him. Hence the apostrophe behind the name it would make Burgers's zoo..
If I became a director for Columbus zoo, the very first thing I would do is renovate the board walk tiger enclosures near the main tiger enclosure next to the Pallas Cat and Markhor exhibits in the Zoo’s Asia Quest, the board walk would be completely removed the old enclosures would be torn down and completely build a very large, very lush, tiger enclosure basically like the current main tiger enclosure. I still have a lot more ideas for what I could do for Columbus if I’m become a director but to me, this is probably the very first thing I would work on.
I definitely think you should visit the tierpark Berlin rainforest house I’m pretty sure they have the only Javan leopards in captivity outside of Indonesian zoos
If I was director of my local zoo I would probably expand the elephant enclosure, I’ve been thinking about the fact that it’s a bit small for elephants 🐘

If I become director of my local zoo I would add a world of Australia exhibit or the Amazon rainforest I would also fix and reopen world of darkness if not to make it something else
You should be able to get around without any issue in most European countries. Many of us speak English really well, especially in touristy places/ cities.
That shouldnt be a problem. The big majority of europeans speak english almost fluently. I recommend you to visit Pairi Daiza in Belgium. Its my favourite. Moreover you should visit Zoo Leipzig, Zoo Duisburg, Tierpark Hagenbeck (Hamburg) in Germany, Acquario di Genova (Genua) in Italy, Oceanografic (Valencia) in Spain and definetly Nausicaa in France. There is a german zoo channal called „Zoo Erlebnis“. He mostly visit german zoos but i think its definetly helpful. And you should bring enough time to visit the cities also. Hope this was useful 😊

As someone with both work and volunteering experience at Burgers', I'd like to at least add: The crab exhibit is also home to horseshoe crabs and hermitcrabs. And no, there are no posion dart frogs freeroaming the Mangrove.
If I were to be given the chance to make some changes as director in my local zoo, i would love if it’s possible to expand the Australasia pavilion there, perhaps renovate it a little bit to house more unique marsupial species like bilbies and Quokkas and add the platypus in it. It would also be nice for to have a more Australian Dreamtime theme in it.
if I were director of my local zoo which is Cleveland I would modernize the seal exhibit, merge the 3 African Savanah habitats into one, replace the American bear exhibits, move the cheetahs to a new exhibit in African Savanah, add a birdhouse somewhere in the zoo, and make primates cats and aquatics into only an aquarium
On day one, I'd add an animal welfare and research department. Not because the zoo doesn't have good welfare, but that theres always room for improvment and it lacks staff dedicated to it.
I'm glad you're doing Oakland Zoo for the next video. Your next international zoo tour should take place in Singapore's four zoos: Singapore Zoo, River Wonders, Night Safari, and Bird Paradise. By the way, to answer your question, I would make an exhibit themed on rainforests around Africa and Southeast Asia.
First thing I'd do with my local zoo, the Milwaukee zoo, is just update its visuals and add proper theming. The species variety is great and I think the animal welfare is good, but I feel like its a bit bland visually and could benefit from a makeover.
If I suddenly became a zoo director, I'd plan a set of local ecosystem exhibits! A dream would be a restored prairie exhibit with a few bison, but I also think people in my area need to know about the animals they live beside (even when they don't see them often) like racoons, possums, local snakes, etc.
Since I moved to Florida, I don’t think I could ever make any changes to the zoos down there. But because I’m originally from Staten Island, I’d say that I’d totally give the Staten Island Zoo a major makeover, make it feel more like the other zoos in NY. I’d give it more space, add new animals, make it feel like a zoo and less like a city park. I’d also change the children’s zoo, Africa and Rainforest wings (give them both more variety and more space for the animals.) I’d also include another tank in the aquarium (either seahorses or jellyfish would be ideal.) and I’d bring back things like the old prairie dog exhibit where the carousel is now, and fix up the outdoor bird of prey habitats.
Since I live in Arizona and have only been to the World Wildlife and Pheonix's Zoos (haven't been to the Reid Park Zoo in Tucson yet): 1. For World Wildlife Zoo, I'd focus on gutting the old entrance with the carousal, adding multiple pathways between each loop (so that guests don't have to keep going back to the zoo entrance to see all the animals), and modernizing the zoo as a whole where I can by utilizing the space the space where the old entrance was to build newer, modern exhibits to relocate some of the species the zoos has, while gutting their old exhibits and expanding other exhibits into the space occupied by the older ones. I'd also figure out which species can live with one another in larger, mixed species exhibits if possible. 2. For the Pheonix Zoo, I would honestly try to look into adding more Asian elephants if at all possible. Indu (their current and only female Asian elephant, and their only elephant), is the last of their herd of three Asian elephants (the other two died of natural causes in 2020 and 2021), and while she lives with and has befriended an Indian rhinoceros, I'd still like to try and have her integrated into another herd.
Lmao, very surprised that you went there as someone living in the Netherlands. To me, there are better overall zoo's like Blijdorp in Rotterdam or Ouwehands, but the best exhibit in the country by far would be the manatee dome in Burger's. Just a fantastic exhibit all around
First thing I would do if I became director of the Maryland zoo in Baltimore is see if the city can give us more land to expand the zoo to at least attempt to compete with the Smithsonian national zoo in DC
Thank you so much for naming CSFI in this episode. It is really sad that a conservation project of this scale (now over 400 square kilometers) doesn't get the attention it deserves. I was lucky enough to visit this project a month ago and want to thank the rangers over there once again for protecting this area!
