Um, because they're studying them? They just said in the video they separate them on purpose in order to control how they breed for research. Without the research, we can't help their species that much so it is quite a nessicary evil in my opinion the ends justify the means. As well, they said that the gibbons are monogamous anyways so being isolated for part of their life probably doesn't affect them much. It would be different if they let them mate, fall in love and then just ripped them apart. But.. the Japanese do not have a very good tract record.. when it comes to animal abuse.. just ask the dolphins

@@nicholasgrossman3194 I've been to the Gibbon Conservation Center and they do not isolate them in old depressing rusty cages. Socially this is bad for them and can lead to unnatural behaviors, which defeats the purpose of studying them to learn about them. I would expect this from a pharmaceutical company using them as test subjects.

They're likely captive bred so they can't be released. But look up the Gibbon Conservation Center in California to see a place who provides them with a more natural environment, healthy foods, and enrichment. I visited for their morning song and it's not at all like the abandoned prison vibes this place in the video has.

They need to release them. Zoo’s need to be shut down.
