Dude the thing about B&H being on holiday all the time cracked me up!! Ramadan, Hannukah, and St fuckin Patrick's Day, I'm amazed they're ever open to be honest
Probably just a joke but B and H is a Jewish owned company so they re basically closed on all public holidays and all the Jewish ones. HiGHLY doubt they re closed for Ramadan...lol
I actually made a comment about it in one of those chat employee bubbles on their site one time. I was like, "man you guys are always closed when I come to buy stuff" and they gave me a reply about respecting every employee's beliefs or something. Which is fair, but I'm trying to make poor financial decisions IN THE MOMENT.
Beautifully done. Some of the best use of zooms came from a master filmmaker, who ironically generally doesn't prefer zooms: Steven Spielberg, Januz Kaminski and Mitch Dubin, did incredible work in the film, Munich. Ridley Scott still does incredible zoom moves. Personally zooms feel more "cinematic" than adding teal and orange to a color grade.
not sure why no one ever brings up the Fujinon 20-120/t3.5. Bigger range than the fuji 19-90 and much cheaper. fantastic optics and the servo grip is great. Love your videos.
Picked up an older Angeniuex 25-250 last year and with my preston motor its so insanely smooth and precise. Been obsessed with it this year. Bring on the zoooom resurgence
I got to try the Tango zooms at ECE last year, and they seem to be somewhat big and heavy. They do perform well, but not as good as Fujinon or Canon, if you've got the money for those. The zoom rocker kinda feels not entirely thought through, as the rockers on other brands feature a well-designed hand grip and strap -- with the DZOFilm one, I imagine you get cramps very quickly when trying to go shoulder.
19-90 Cabrio owner here... Seems weird how the servo/grip is designed. I feel like for a servo to be well thought out it should be ergonomic and also have a handstrap to help you hold onto the lens/camera... Just my $.02 :)
The zoom shot always evokes a strange feeling because our own eyes cannot perceive the world that way. Always loved that about zooms. Is it cliché to say no one has done them better than Kubrick? Love your videos, Mr. Potts! I’ve noticed Cinematographers on RU-vid biting your style. You’re a trend setter!

I waited for vertigo effect since you have zoom lens and dolly.
I've recently got my hands on an actual cinema zoom after only working with photo zooms or Cinema primes and it's a really fun experience I feel like they're weirdly out of fashion these days in anything but a comedy or mockumentary but I'm loving the versatility (also if you like the lomo Illumina look the lens I got might worth looking at, its the Optika Elite 25-80mm, compact & light as hell with a pretty nice look💕)
There is something about that slow zoom and compression of the scene that is almost nostalgic. Loved the time of day and shots down the street to the house. Be interested to see how it held up with slow moves and any jitter
I shot a lot of run and gun Docs with heavy Fujinon's and Angenieux's, but one would either be slow, the other would not have a good range, these would be perfect! (Can relate to having to lug around a huge camera on the street, with the oconners though)
I just put the lens on straight on out of the box, I probably should of not used the handle bars and instead put my left hand on the lens doing the focus
Reminds me of the stage camera I would film with a while back. You had a standard vertical grip on the left and a strap grip on the right of the lens. Id recommend supporting the zoom controller it with the palm of your hand if you do use it like that.
Not testing a lens with charts and stuff is kind of the move i feel. The charts can be useful but they can lead to you obsessing over one particular aspect of a lens instead of judging the overall pictures it makes
Yeah, I bought a SIGMA prime 35mm lens (Canon EF) and it's probably the worst and best mistake I could have made as a amateur photographer/videographer. It's good because it makes you think WAY more about how and where you're positioned relative to your subject, also makes you a little more conscious about composition. It's bad because sometimes there's factors out of your control like the positioning of your subjects (cause they're walls or buildings, not people, duh) where you really bloody wish you had a zoom lens. And I'm way more of a in-the-moment run-and-gun guy so a zoom lens would be really nice for that portability factor. Been thinking about getting a Sigma 60-600mm F4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM for my Canon EOS M50 which I'm going to have to save quite a while for (meanwhile I'm watching videos on $17,000 lenses). Ironic I mention getting a zoom lens for portability and then talk about getting Sigma's 60-600mm which is one of their heaviest weighing in at something like 2.5kg, has a shite-ton of range among other things which attract me to it (not very good low-light capability doesn't attract me very much to it though 😕). What to do.. so many lenses, not enough time in my entire life-span to choose one...
Hi, I've seen your video and I'm interested in buying this servo, can you send me the purchase link? I'm from Brazil and I bought the 65-280 and I need to invest in this system!
I feel like zooms were considered cheesy for a quite a while and have now become the trendiest thing over the past couple of years. Everything is a cycle!
