A side by side comparison of two bags for the Zoom F6. I'm learning wildlife field recording, so aimed at mobile use rather than film making.
I'm not a videographer, so don't expect a polished edit!

The side velcro on the Orca bag is for the SoundDevices MixPre recorders.

Thanks for the review! The velcro straps at the top of the OR-268 can be wrapped around the rails of the F6 (like the lower straps) and closed tightly at the top, so you can reach all the controls and the recorder doesn't move around if you don't use it with a big battery. I don't blame you for not getting that right away, it's anything but intuitive.

Good spot, thanks, that would certainly help.

Thanks very much for posting this. It's extremely helpful. I bought the Orca and had exactly the same issues and concerns. I'm going to return it and get the stingray. Edit: here's another reason for choosing the stringray instead of the orca: the handles on the orca zippers jingle constantly. It's incredibly annoying. The stingray is silent.

That was a tremendously honest and helpful review/comparison there, Robin! You addressed the purpose, the suitability and the features of each bag with a transparency and thoroughness that allows the decision-maker to make an open and honest choice as to which they'd prefer-well done, mate! I thoroughly respect the amount of effort you've gone through to produce this, and fully applaud your selfless efforts to inform others. I thank you, with sincerity, for your effort and final production! :o)

Yeah K-Tek has me. Think I'll be getting this setup next as I Love K-Tek and they look like they NAILED this one. Love my old F-4 and K-Tek stingray but it wears on my back after a day or 3. Plus I can still hang 4 Sennheiser packs on the straps outside which helps when you need it.

Loved this video! I learned useful information, but also it was really pleasant to listen to you talking. Your voice and the way you hold yourself have some sort of calming effect. Thanks.

Thanks for the comparison video, from what I saw I would personally go for the Orca due to the additional space made for wireless transmitter as the Stringray looks like you have to hang them outside te bag and need an extra bag to store them.

Yes I'd agree - the Orca has more space for bits and pieces like that. Enjoy

The Stingray looks like a clear winner but I do like a little more room. I use power banks to power the F6 and that would be an issue with the Orca and the way the F6 sits in it without a battery attached. That’s really odd how it does that. With the Stingray, I would hate putting stress on cable joints, it makes me cringe as I’ve had damage to cables at that point, hence liking a little more space for them. Great video…cheers 👍

Thanks - I totally understand the fear about cable stress. You'll have noted my surprise when it seemed to work. It would be really easy to leave the zips open to avoid that - the covers don't flap around. I think you could perhaps get power banks below the F6 in the Stingray - I had that huge battery attached, so depending on the dimensions of your power banks it could work. They might even fit in 'front' of the bag as there is a little space there??

The biggest downside on the Stingray is that you can’t reach the volume for the headphones, if the sides are closed. And this is an absolutely no go for me!! The Stingray also doesn't stand on a Table (face up), while the Orca does. The mounting system, for the F6, on the Orca isn´t the best, I totally agree. I 3D printed my own mounting system.

Any chance you'd be able to share more details on that mounting system? Would be interested in doing something similar

Thank you for making a side by side comparison of these two bags! I wish the k-Tek bag came with internal storage, otherwise it would be perfect! Do you think that two wireless receivers can be clipped inside the front pocket of the orca bag? WIll the zipper close without the antenna sticking out? Also, does the orca bag work worn around the waist? Thank you!
@bnarna
@bnarna 2 года назад
The Orca bag has lots of space for receivers etc - what appear as zipped pockets give easy access with elasticated straps to hold them in place. I didn't check the orca bag round my waist as I had already decided by then, but I don't see why not - the plasticsed attachment points are strong enough to hold it firmly.

@@bnarna Thank you. If I attach two wireless recievers in the front pocket, will the antenna stick out? Or can I tuck it into the main bag and zip the pocket closed?
@bnarna
@bnarna 2 года назад
@@hpultman6703 hmm, not sure if you could tuck them in. I don't use them so didn't think about that. Have a look at this review ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-At4Jb0NwggI.html

Hi there. I enjoyed the video, great comparisons and answered several questions I have. One question, what tripod mount are you using. I am going nuts trying to find one just like it. Thanks
@bnarna
@bnarna 2 года назад
Hi Paul. I've not actually used a tripod in anger with this but did test it out for size. I've always used Manfrotto tripods with quick release plates and it's just that I would use here so it's part of the tripod rather than a separate device.
@Paul-js9eq
@Paul-js9eq 2 года назад
@@bnarna Hi thank you for that, what is the clip you are using to attach it to the tripod at 34.51. As in all things it is knowing the right question to ask. Thanks Paul

What size npf battery are you showing when putting it into the orca bag?
@bnarna

I think it's a 970. I've got 2 and this is the larger one, still with plenty of space in the bag

What battery are you using with you F6 recorder?
@bnarna
@bnarna 2 года назад
It's a Sony L-series type. Mine is an unbranded NP-F970 I got previously with a 2nd hand camera. I've got this big one and a smaller version which I use all the time - lasts forever.
