Perfect color for metropolis. Most people just throw it in a navy board. That’s so much better. I’m super curious of the maglev mount.Hopefully they send someone out a no flex pcb and stiffer plate to review.
Great job on the review as always Bob. It´s too bad they didn´t send you a non-flex cut PCB to do a foam-less sound test. But I do have to say, it didn´t sound as foamy as other boards I´ve heard. when I got stared out in the hobby about a year ago, my first alu board was the Sugar65. That board has flex-cuts on both the FR4 plate and on the PCB. So it´s very foam reliant to sound good. Since like you, I´m a foam-less guy, I tried a build where I took out all the foams and did a two layer tape mod on it. Not ideal, but it got much better.
Great review. Imagine if the board didn’t have the ball catch clasp haha that would have been so many screws for ya to build all those configs. The levitation mount is kinda nuts, sounds kinda odd though. 100% agree with your take on the layout options. Great points about the ribbon cables too. Damn ribbon cables… 😢
To be fair all the mounting systems have a lot of screws 😂 the magnetic levitation and split o-ring use 2 screw per mounting point, so like 16 screws. Time consuming
The foam sound is my gripe with the Zoom series. I'm no longer in my foam phase. I love the engineering of the board and some of the colors. I'm super curious to know if this thing can sound good foamless or maybe just some case foam.
personally top mount and the short arm spring mount sound good. O ring sounds the worst and others, including the mag lev, sound almost the same to me.
I haven’t personally tried the qk65v2. However, I’m a non foam user so I would lean more towards the qk65v2 since I wasn’t able to test this board without a foam config.
