Zorba the Greek was my late mother 's favorite movie. Whenever she walked into a video shop she always asked if they had it in stock. She must have watched it a 1000 times😂😅
🇦🇹🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏👏👏🕺🏼🕺🏼🕺🏼🕺🏼🕺🏼🕺🏼🕺🏼🕺🏼🇬🇷
Yes a Brilliant film and Anthony Quinn could play so many characters with different nationalities..Brings back memories of my father I'm half Greek Cypriot my father from Cyprus ..
RIP Anthony Quinn (April 21, 1915 - June 3, 2001), aged 86 And RIP Sir Alan Bates (February 17, 1934 - December 27, 2003), aged 69 You both will be remembered as legends.
Even though Anthony Quinn was Mexican American instead of Greek, from what fans and I saw, he was perfect for the role. After traveling around the mediterranean, I discovered Latin Americans are so similar to people from the mediterranean. :)
I was at the Greekfest all this last weekend in New Orleans and it was a blast! They have a super tight knit Greek community here and their balalaikas playing the bouzouki music is so romantic and soulful. The Greek band always finishes up the event each night playing Zorba the Greek. It's a sight to behold with many people young and old doing that soulful Greek dance. 🇬🇷 OPA! 🇬🇷 OPA! 🇬🇷👍🏻
Anthony Quinn always played characters with different nationalities he is such an wonderful actor so many films his been in that are very wonderful to watch..my father was from Cyprus and he would play this music often
@@monichat is A man with a truly unforgettable spirit. He was a very skilled painter and sculptured he had exhibits of his work in San Francisco and New York.
It's such a beautiful piece of cinema. A quiet, insignificant moment between two friends. Life is imperfect, life is chaos, life is a trial to be endured. But you can still have a bit of a dance, and laugh.
This is a great masterpiece of a story ... you hear the music but there is nobody playing it on the scene. That means they have it in their hearts and minds ... and there is something more important developing, once the dance is getting under way ... ``you are getting it" I watched this for 100 times, and it always seems to give different vibes. That is real art! You can write your PhD on this....
It's called extradiegetic music, no need for a PhD :) (But the whole film Zorba the Greek, is definitely worth watching by all lovers of arts in general, and cinema in particular) :)
@@Pandemonis That is good to know. I have seen very few movies that have that kind of deep expectation from the viewer. Almost like Tarkovsky or Stanley Kubrick
"Nothing left! Nothing!" The very last word of the film exactly the Cretan spirit of Kazantzakis---life is "nothing," a dream, a bubble, but squeeze out every drop!
As i can see on the hearts with your comment that it must have been such a good experince you have had together with your father. I know there is some hard scenes ln the film, based on the novel by Nikos Kazantakiz, that must have been hard to understand for a five year old child, but there is still so many heart warming scenes beside them to remember and it is also a fantastic adventure to be introduced to. Love to you and your father - your father who i guess is maybe dead now
Always worth a visit to this magic. Especially if you have experienced the company of the Greek people in remote areas of their land and shared food and drink with the. As I have, years ago.
For thirteen years I had a house in Liopetri, Cyprus - and it was always this, Zorba, or Melina - Never on a Sunday. I'll never forget my Cyprus friends - both Greek and Turkish xxx An honour to be one of you ! xx
A man who has captured the Hellenic spirit so accurately and with such vigor (and in more than one film btw) MUST really be a Hellene inside! GEIA SOU LEVENDI KAI XANARTHEIS STHV ELLADA MAS!
very touching. a great movie with an awesome ending. Used to listen the that song played by Herb Alpert and the TJ Brass as a kid. Watching my Irish-American parents dancing to that song!!!!!!
Anthony Quinn is the man, in every film, every scene he owns the part, In Lawrence of Arabia he is the 'a river for my people' , very few match his talent and everyone circles him in this movie like a moths around a candle .
One of my dear departed mother Anna's favorite actors was the incomparable Anthony Quinn! So earthy and human and virile and strong, yet conveyed profoundly poignant emotions that touched the core of one's heart and mind and soul! Rest in peace, dear great and good man Mr. Quinn! You left a magnificent legacy of exquisite and most compelling characters in film!

I remember this movie as alternately confusing and horrifying until this scene. All of a sudden it made sense. I can't believe it ws almos 60 years ago and I still remember it so well.
I just LOVE the instrument in this music. And Anthony Quinn of course - a force larger than life. I wish someone would do a scene with this song similar to MamaMia the movie 2018, but on a Greek Island with yachts and the azure sky and dozens of people dancing the Zorba. It would be spectacular!!!
@@AllRequired thank you🙏 I read the mandolin was played as well - not sure if both instruments were used at the same time but the bouzouki seems to feature more in writings about the song.
Even when it all comes crashing down, you can give into a little madness, a madness that frees a man of worries of consequence, of responsibility, of the weight of the world. Here we see two men, unlikely friends, after a grand journey and a grand failure. Dancing in the madness, laughing, as if they could do it until the end of the world. After all goes wrong, you can still have a friend that will be there by your side, dancing and laughing with you. "Boss, I have so much to tell you. I never loved a man more than you."
