Sort of, but not really. Only two of them were involved in recording the original version; Matty Lewis on raps and Ali Tabatabaee for the singing. Then they made a version with the rest of Zebrahead.
Zebrahead version is my favorite one with vocals, and Solaris Phase 2 is my favorite instrumental version. Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), or simply referred to as Sonic '06, is considered one of the worst video games of all time, and is the game that destroyed Sonic's reputation because it was rushed (ironic, huh?) As you can see, the music is the best part of this game. Luckily there's a fan remake in the works called Project '06 out that hopes to fix the damage this game caused the brand.
I wouldn't call it the worst... Heck, compared to recent rushed projects it is nowhere as bad at its release. More like it was one of the first games that was very hyped up before release... And upon release we got very mild result... Where most of its problems can be clearly seen in lack of polish (optimisation, character movement, bugs and final story stretch) while having a SOLID core (this is the whole reason PROJECT 06 exists). Overall '06 is way less of a case like Redfall (Where there was NO SOLID CORE) and more like Cyberpunk 2077 (Arguably '06 was not even THAT bad at release like C2077 If you think about it - the difference is that '06 didn't have a luxury of getting patched after release so until PROJECT 06 came along no one bothered to FIX it)
@@Ghostel3591 There are things about '06 I don't like, namely the story, the bugs, and I hated Silver, but I can safely say it aged a bit better. It's not even the worst game in the series now, that goes to Rise of Lyric and Forces.
@@seanibarra-loredo7290 I'd say Rise of Lyric is closer to a bad game 'cause trying to cram Cry Engine 3 into Wii U was obviously a bad idea from the get go... And every other problem stems from that and development hell that ensued after. Meanwhile core problem with Forces... Is not that it is bad... It is VERY BLAND. Like a filler Episode in terms of length, story and gameplay. You get it and feel like you bought Level Pack DLC for Sonic Generations for 60$. Also Silver ended up for Sonic community same as Nero in DMC and Raiden in MGS - negative reception at the start and nowadays most warmed up to the character and wish he had more chances to reappear (I mean Project 06 shows it can be FUN If you do it right)
I loved this flop of a game's soundtrack The original his world will always hold a special place in my heart because it was the first version I heard, but I feel like zebrahead's version fit sonic's energy the most Crush 40 sounds like a version for shadow and the original sounds like it fits silver more, which may have been on purpose considering those 3 have their own stories in this game (Also the singers from the first version are the singers for zebrahead, the first version's instruments were done by an orchestra and sega's sound team, the whole band wasn't available to record before the game was finalized so you can only find the zebrahead version in the actual album to the game)
If you didnt know, this game was meant to be a reboot to the franchise that modernized the game, but it flopped hard due to sega putting a deadline on sonics birthday (Sonics birthday was one year after their last major game released and at the time the team was split into two and they lost their director mid-development because everyone was overworked, so basically every bad decision that corporate couldve made, they did)
I, personally, would have listened to Solaris Phase 2 over the E3 version, but all versions of His World are great. Zebrahead version is my big favourite though. I just find it interesting the different moods all of them give off. I love the Results version with how calming it is.

I'm super late to the party, so you've probably already researched it by now, but to answer the question about who did the original version: the vocals are still performed by Zebrahead, but the composition and arrangement was Sega's in-house team of composers/musicians, primarily lead by Tomoya Ohtani, who was assigned the job of leading sound director for the game. As for other 3D titles, Ohtani was also the lead composer for Unleashed, Lost World, Forces, and Frontiers, but Sonic 06 was his first time taking the reigns. His World captures the vibe and tone for Sonic better than any other theme (this is coming from a 90s kid who grew up with him).
There's actually two more versions other than these. Of course the already mentioned Solaris Phase 2 but there's also a Bentley Jones version that everyone forgets about.

So happy you listened to my recommendation and glad you enjoyed them. I do hope you can listen to character theme songs next but there’s so many of them throughout different games. I recommend listening to Sonic Adventure first cause it’s has the most with 6 different songs

Best one is eeeeeasily the main one. As a matter of fact it's so good it should be the character's main theme post-06. It Doesn't Matter doesn't fit Sonic's modern characterization at all (and it never did anyway if you ask me), His World is goosebump inducing, it's a main theme you can place up there with all the greats of all time. His World (Theme of Sonic) > His World E3 Trailer > Solaris Phase 2 (it's basically an orchestral version of His World) > His World by Zebrahead > His World by Crush 40, that'd my personal ranking.

Personally I prefer NateWantsToBattle's cover of the song far far FAAAAAR more than any other version. One of the rare instances where I like a cover more than the original.
Does anyone else hate the chorus of the official 06 version of the song? I can't stand it. Zebrahead pretty much fixes it for me, but I do miss the strings and soft start.

If you heard the lyrics of any of the songs for the first times with no previous impressions of sonic you would know it’s absolutely the dream of a 10 year old’s dream about being cool. And it works.
