The level of respect Mihawk showed Zoro is insane. 1: He took out Yoru as a sign of respect and even outwardly stated it. 2: This was a fight to the death and Mihawk chose to spare Zoro because he had too much potential. 3: He spared Luffy purely because of the kind of man Zoro is and the fact that a man like Zoro chose to follow Luffy

Since you’ve commented on the outfits a couple of times, they actually are from the manga. Every outfit they wear on the show (that isn’t their main one) is either from a cover page of a chapter, or from a color spread. The clothes aren’t canon to the original story proper, but they are canon to the characters. It’s a neat way to integrate Oda’s various artworks into the live action.

People with superhuman strength, speed, reflexes, etc. does not automatically mean they have powers which make them that way. Training can make it possible to perform superhuman feats in one piece. People with powers that are specific to them have eaten a devil fruit. If someone has eaten a fruit, they will usually announce it like buggy explicitly saying "I ate the chop-chop fruit". In Garps and Mihawks case, they are just that strong. Also Sanji smiled because he knew what zeff's reaction would be.

Missing Mihawk slashing the ship in half is NUTS. They even slowed the slash down and showed the path of the bladewind so people could easily see it, and lingered on the shot for 5 seconds with secondary ship explosions. Man, there is so much in this episode I don't even know what to say. To me the Mihawk fight is the turning point in the series, not in the sense of "now is good",but in the sense that you see how much you actually don't know about the world,how much the straw hat have to grow and how insane their journey can become in the blink of an eye. As Mihawk puts it "they are a frog in a well" and this was their first look out of it. And is a very direct showcase to the reader of the journey to come, because One Piece can't end without every strawhats dream being fulfilled that means that the difference in strength between Zoro and Mihawk is the difference between the start of One piece and its eventual end and oh boy, is that difference huge, now to the trivia. One piece of a time: in the colored manga Oda paints Mihawk eyes red. In the anime whoever they change it to yellow to fit into his epithet of "Hawk-eye" but there is a type of hawk with red eyes although is kinda rare. and another because you guys mention it in the video, there is not a single character in all of One piece that has an eyepatch but according to Oda he is saving it for an important character in the future.
@Envoy-io5vn
@Envoy-io5vn 11 месяцев назад
fun fact: the garp reveal was technically spoiled before chapter 1 of the manga came out. when Oda published his first draft of the manga he replaced shanks with garp because he wanted to show shanks for the first time in the official chapter 1. so basically its not too big of a deal that the live action revealed it so early even if the manga's reveal was so much better
@heatth1474
@heatth1474 11 месяцев назад
That is not true at all. Oda speifically hid Garp's face for all his early appearances in the main manga, and in this pilot chapter he was never referred to by name. While I do agree the Live Action's early reveal is not a big deal, Oda actually made sure to not spoil that reveal on the manga.

It's important to remember that the marines aren't the bad guys, pirates are reeeeally bad, just look at Kuro. As Luffy says, he's a different kind of pirate, but the fact that Garp hates pirates shouldn't really be a surprise or odd, they're generaly really bad people.

@@mikki6158 That marines aren't really the bad guys. That's not clearly evident even in the anime, as we definitely see a lot of bad marines. That said, it would have been clearer if they had included the good marines at shellstown. But outside those marines telling the girl sorry and saluting Luffy/Zoro being aware of what they did for Coby, we get no impression of actual good marines in One Piece until a later character(don't want to spoil if the reactors see, but 🚬).

@IamGrimalkin
@IamGrimalkin 10 месяцев назад
That's kind of not true though. They whitewash the marines a bit in this series, Morgan is far worse than depicted in this show. And the longer you go in One Piece, the worse the World Government gets. You do have good marines who work within the system (like Koby and even Garp), in the same sense that you can have good and bad pirates. But as a whole, the World Government is the bad guys. You find out how bad later on.

Like you have a certain picture in your head but Garp and Mihawk completely shatter that, especially bc they obviously don't have a devil fruit as it didn't get announced. I was literally shook. @@yamikagevg7841 Gin clearly said that the entire fleet was destroyed in the Grandline and that he was the only survivor (not something like escaping with the last ship like in the manga). But this can't be the fight against Don Krieg that we see in the live action because this one is clearly in the East Blue and rather close to the Baratie. If you don't think that Mihawk can now simply teleport around the world nothing else makes sense - there is way to less time between Garp's call and Mihawk's arrival at Baratie otherwise. @yamikagevg7841
@yamikagevg7841 11 месяцев назад
@@f.carasind4188 I see what you are saying, but there are still ways to make sense of the situation. First of all the Grand Line is a line of sea that goes around the globe and has multiple entry points. We could assume that the Baratie is close to one of those entry points. Also Garp called Hawkeye right after Luffy escaped him and we dont know how much time has passed while Luffy and his crew were wandering in the mist. Nami saying "He hasn't said a word ever since..." (refering to Luffy) when the "camera" got back to them in the l.a. indicates that quite some time has passed, and then even more time passes when they actually get in the Baratie. Assuming my first point is true, this could be enough time for both Gin and Mihawk to reach them from the Grand Line. Or you could just be right and those were supposed to be 2 unrelated events in the live action 🤷

You almost got the significance of the Garp-Coby exchange. Garp isn’t about corruption or turning Coby to the dark side, it’s about teaching him the realities of this world as Garp sees it. Garp seriously sees the Marines as the only force for good, even if it’s corrupt. What he was teaching Coby is you have to choose the amount of corruption you can live with in order to do the good you want. For him, he could have more power but that would come at a cost he isn’t willing to pay.

This. The marines are corrupt but like they've said in the show, there are good marines. And those marines have to work around that corruption in order to have the freedom to do good. Just like pirates. A majority are heinous criminals but there's some in there that just want to be free and do what they want (mostly of "lesser evil"). Which still makes them criminals.

In both manga and anime, Mihawk's facial hair seems to be shaven, and not musache, so adaptation of it is pretty much on point. His whole design was pretty accurate, and if I had to nitpick really really hard, maybe his hat feels slightly too small, but not by much. Even Yoru seems to be roughly correct size, but here we have problems with it changinf sizes from time to time on panels, which is a mistake that can happen to anyone, and doesn't really matter. 35:50 Don Kried was more of an Ironman than doomguy, in manga he had seemingly limiteless arsenal of so many different weapons, it's wild. His whole shtick was that he was very weak, but he was compensating for that with way too many weapons. And of course in manga he had more screentime and relevance, but in grand scheme of things, this version changed a lot, but also nothing really of importance. Well, besides one thing, but if you know, you know

20:40 for some reason the live action doesn't make this clear, but this guy's fleet that was destroyed was indeed done by Mihawk. It was that fleet with Don Krieg we saw him demolish earlier in the episode, but the timeline feels weird for this guy (Ghin) to come to Baratie in time here.

Gin (the starving guy) IS Don Krieg's crew in the manga actually, though it may be different here because the whole sequence of events is different. (Don Krieg attacks Baratie in the manga so their fight with Mihawk takes place there.)

Garp being Luffy's Grandpa is a spoiler from around the 300 episode mark or so(not sure exactly). That said, him being Luffy's grandpa isn't really that much of a spoiler, as we aren't even truly introduced to Garp until then anyway, outside of him just being the guy in charge of Koby in a cover story. So all it spoils is about 2 minutes of "oh shit the Marines are here and we aren't ready... Oh wait... What?", which you got out of the live action anyway. The scene that Garp would normally be introduced can still happen and still has more to it that you won't know or need to know until then. The only loss from that scene will be the 2 mins of tension before knowing it's Luffy's Grandpa. So truly, it doesn't ruin anything for you moving forward, nor does it change ANYTHING about the structure of the story moving forward when compared to the manga. It's a non-issue, and that's coming from a 15 year long fan of the manga.

Regarding why Garp hates pirates, you have to realize the vast majority of pirates are murderers and thieves just like Kuro or Buggy. In general pirates are characterized as selfish people that trample over others in pursuit of their dreams.

NOTE for new comers: Oh nyo the seven warlords are not including Roger and Shanks but Mihwak and more different 6 warlords (that we know who they are) °w° Also the next opponent of Luffy in this Baratie's arc was Don Krieg but unfortunately it was cut due to the limited budget even the costume was ready and well done, it created a bit of disappointment for the japanese audience since he still an iconic villain of East Blue saga UwU
@ZarathosDaimaoh
@ZarathosDaimaoh 10 месяцев назад
I don't think he was cut for budget concerns ... he was after all used instead in a big budgeted scene , and one of the best of the show . He is just honestly a weak cowardly throwaway cannon fodder villain in an excellent arc . He was there to hype the dangers of the grand line , hype Mihawk , and shows that just having a fleet does not matter . If anything the LA proves that you can do the same arc without him as a main villain , and without impacting the plot . There are good reasons he is still one of the villains the manga does not even bother showing or referencing again . And it's obvious he matters so little that Oda lets him get killed in the LA

You have a good eye. In the original, Gin (the guy who's starving) *is* part of Don Kriegs crew, and it was Mihawk who did it. I think they kept it deliberately vague so the grand line feels more dangerous.
