Mistranslation… Mihawk isn’t necessarily the world’s strongest man, but he is the worlds strongest swordsman. Just to clarify

I just love how Mihawk reacts to Luffy saying what his goal is. So far everyone either laugh at him or dismiss him. But not Mihawk, his response is just "that will be hard". He knows anyone can make their dreams come true with enough willpower.

Two of the seas greatest swordsman, and still Mihawk called fighting him with his sword "Hunting a rabbit with a canon." The biggest diss to ever sail the seas and he ain't even wrong lmao.

Mihawks introduction here is insane important for 3. reasons...1. It show what it really takes to fight in the Grand Line, it's not the gimmicks or amount of men and ships that makes you conquer it but something more...2. It's shows what Zoro must conquer to achieve his goal ! 3. First Warlord of the sea and he his alone too !!

At first Mihawk looked annoyed and pissed, called him weak one. After seeing his passion he looked with great passion, as if he saw his future rival after all these years and called him strong one

Luffy is a good captain. He respects his crewmates wishes, but hurt seriously one of his friends and god save you. Besides, Zoro remembered it, Luffy said he had no problem if Zoro tried to get hia dream, because the pirate king will need the strongest swordsman.

"Scars on the back are a swordsman's shame" is such a powerful line

I love zorro’s character development here. He told luffy that if luffy’s ambitions got in the way of his own he’d have luffy pay with his life. But in this fight, in the flashback, and with his final speech we become aware that zorro is no longer just fighting for himself because his dream aligns with luffy’s dream now. If luffy is to become king of the pirates then luffy will need the world strongest swordsman in his crew-which is why he promised he’d never lose to another swordsman again.

I just love Zorro's theme, I know it's not exclusive to him but I believe he receives it the most through out the series

Zoro vs Mihawk is such an amazing moment in the series, and the frog line might be one of my favorites. The show didn't translate it very well though, it goes more like this: As Mihawk prepares to fight the strongest swordsman in east blue with a cheese knife, he says "Little frog sitting in your well, it's time you learn the world is far bigger than what you can see from your well." It's just such an incredible line. The next time it's mentioned is when Zoro uses it himself. Shockingly, nobody seems to recognize the reference though...

Zoro vs Mihawk here is such a great scene. Try to imagine how much Zoro grows in the next 1000 episodes.

I love how he keeps asking what happens if lufy gets hit by a blade despite it having being answer and shown already.

You can't even imagine what will be with this show later. This episode I remeber was one first time when I was like "hold up, hold up, I can smell big scale of the show". Oda is king of world Building (and not only, but without spoilers). Keep it going 👍👍

I wonder how frequently he was watching these episodes as we've seen Luffy being cut and bleeding multiple times by now, and even have it stated that cutting is a weakness to him. Yet Jack is still confused so I must assume he was watching infrequently so that information didn't stick

I always loved the bringing in the final boss at the start to wipe the floor and with you and drive you to get stronger bit here with Mihawk. and I think it was lord of the rings but I remember someone asked if his son's killing blow scars were on the front or back when he died, which symbolized basically did he face his death like a man or did the turn and try to run like a coward

Luffy: I'll be King of the Pirates! Mihawk: That will be harder than surpassing me.

Him being surprised by a 20 Mill bounty is adorable.

Well if you really like mihawk then you better be exited to see him once more and then wait like a hundred episodes or more to see him again

Yeah, Zorro is a famous fictional swordsman, a vigilante character and kind of a proto-superhero who also inspired Batman, and yes Mihawk seems like he might be based on Zorro. And I'm not sure if it's true but I've definitely heard people speculate that Zoro is named after Zorro I remember there was a Zorro TV show in the early 90s that I think was pretty popular, or at least I always had the impression that it was, admittedly I was just a little kid back then (I found it really cool lol). But that was around the time Oda was planning One Piece so it wouldn't be a surprise if that show inspired him (assuming it was also shown in Japan) ETA: apparently there was a Zorro anime that ran from 1996 to 1997 which is literally just before One Piece started, and they spelled "Zorro" as "Zoro" (ゾロ) so yeah....

Jack i watched a mihawk clip and i rly loved it and started one piece and i almost gave up after this ep cuz mihawks voice actor is just not it but thankfully he gets a different voice actor as the episodes go by and now his voice actually fits his looks (Yes mihawk is in fact my favorite character from one piece)

It would have been strange if you meet the strongest swordsman so early on and Zoro would have been able to defeat him. There aren´t many shows that introduce the real big fishes so early on (portraying the enemies as "super strong" etc. but in the end they are nothing compared to what comes later) , so I understand the slight hope that Zoro might have been victirious here. BUt Mihawk is a real one, Zoro had no chance at that time. Also Mihawk respected Zoro enough to not cut him in half as Zoro stood before him, anticipateing the sword slicing him through. Mihawk could have easily done it, but he saw something in Zoro, so he dealed a blow that wouldn´t kill him

Mihawk didn't kill Krieg because in his mind Krieg was already defeated. Krieg was basically just a big fish in a small pond. He had success in the East Blue, but as Mihawk said, the East Blue is weakest of the Four Main Seas. All of his actions in this arc are those a bitter, defeated loser trying to prove to the world and himself that he's still a big shot. But the sad truth is that even if he did win, steal the logbook and the Baratie, he would've just been killed by one of the hundreds of other stronger pirates in the Grand Line. Which is why most fans often forget that Krieg even exists.

It's been stated that Luffy can be cut by blades, and you saw him get cut by Kuro's blades and you still don't understand that blades can cut him. I hate that the anime screwed up that scene in the first episode to make it look like the swords broke against Luffy's body offscreen.
