My Dad took me to see this when it came out, as he grew up with Zorro as a lad in the Fifties, and I had never seen him laugh so much before or after. It's a real treat to see it again and hear my Dad's laughter once more.
George was an undiscovered comedy actor....I love how embraced the role, creating a rarely now seen comedy that is a close runner up to blazing saddles.
This is, no kidding, one of the 20 most quotable and hilarious movie ever made. It is Airplane for the Zorro series...you just have to go with it, and not judge it by 2024 standards but like Airplane and the best of Mel Brooks, a movie that loves its characters enough to be insane with them.
Its been years since I seen this movie. Many moons ago there I was in front of the TV eating those little round corn chips with refried beans and cheese on top. Now years later here I am at the same house, same wood paneling in the living room and watching this classic movie. Thank you for posting it. Love it!!!
This movie, along with Love At First Bite (I think that's the title) were broadcast on television back in the 1980s. This was a silly movie, I can't imagine anyone under 40 having any idea this movie exists. But now it's here on RU-vid, so that's great. I hope it still holds up.
you just unintentionally unlocked a memory of mine. I remember watching gay blade and love at first bite with my dad. I've recently been thinking about a random vampire flick where the vampire gets the woman. Then he and her fly away into the night in bat form, having casual conversation
Love this movie so much. I have been looking on all the sites to try and find it. Then it randomly pops up on my RU-vid. Me and my mom use to watch this movie and quote it to each other all the time.
'Zorro the Gay Blade' is one of my favorite comedy films of the 1980s, and I did see it in the theater when it was first released in 1981 when I was 25. Outrageously hilarious. I had no idea it was uploaded on RU-vid 8 years ago. Thank for doing that Peep Raie!
This was around the time when the two other sleeper hits had hit being a Cannonball Run and Arthur that I recall them being the kind of movies where my parents went and saw it first and they came and told us kids were going to go see this movie and we all enjoyed it all our friends coming over to watch it at our place they'll they all thought it was the funniest things I've ever seen. As a matter of fact a friend of mine I saw at a yard sale there was a video tape of Cannonball Run so I picked that up and I was telling him you got to we have to watch this movie today was it turned out he loved Burt Reynolds but he loved everybody else in the thing as well and there was a few things in there obviously there's Jackie Chan in it which shot the hell out of him that Jackie Chan was in movies back then but specially there was a few things that Burt Reynolds said in there that the other guy said around me when he would talk about somebody that he liked he would say something like they're very likable very likable and it was like as soon as you heard them saying that he's like that's what I've been saying I said I know it said the reason I wanted you to see this movie and he was by the end of it he was like that's the best movie that I've ever seen that was so well done for for it being so low budget it still was perfect
Saw this in the theater when it came out. Great halarious movie. Bought it on VHS right after. Seen it a million times and laugh every time. Saw an interview with Ron Liebman who played Esteban. He said he had the most fun playing that part than any other movie he made.
I used to watch this film over & over on HBO back in 1982 when Cable TV was relatively new. I was 8 years old and obviously not hip to the comedy or gay innuendos in the movie, so it's funny to watch now as an adult. I remember in the early 1980's, HBO would play this movie and others like Legend of the Lone Ranger, Willy Wonka, Grease 2, Clash of the Titans, Swamp Thing, Under the Rainbow, Super Fuzz, Flash Gordon, and Elton John Live at Central Park all the time.
I too watched this the same year same channel. Also my bloody valentine and hell night and terror train, on the right track with Gary colemon. Happy memeories
When I came across this I was sooo happy!!! I remember watching this at the movie theater. I always though George Hamilton was so good looking. Loved him as Zorro and in Love at first bite.
I could never decide whether he was a self-obsessed Hollywood hack, or a very clever man who could turn his talent to anything and still have everyone believing that he was a hack!
A thousand thank you's for putting this up! The Tanned One is an underrated actor, and will always be a crush ❤ And Ron Leibman was his absolute match. This cast, this movie, an absolute joy to watch.😅😅😅❤❤❤❤
Oh, my word. I love you. This is my favorite cheesy pleasure. It's like the best parts of Velveeta with real flavor. And the "it's not politically correct anymore" crowd can shove it. This is frankly one of the better treatments of a gay character the 1970s had. And I'm speaking as a TBLG rights activist of 20 years' standing. So laugh at Bunny if it makes you feel better about being forced to realize other people are human no matter who they love. I'm laughing with him and always have.
Fun fact: the stunt co-ordinator on the film was Victor Paul. Mr. Paul was also one of the two stunt co-ordinators on the Batman series, and doubled for Burt Ward.
Dude, this movie holds up now just as well as it did when I saw it as a kid. So freaking funny and smart. No complaints at all. I'm 33 and this was before my time, but I'm so glad my parents showed me this as a kid.
What a really fun movie. Long before WOKE & The alphabet people. We could all enjoy our own lives without being hated. I’m not gay but I have friends who are and they didn’t know this movie, so I turned them in to it. 😂 we don’t hate , we enjoy each other’s culture.
SAME HERE, I SAW IT WHEN I WAS 10 TOO, I ALSO LOVE THE BONNIE WIGGLESWORTH CHARACTER AS MY FATHER IS FROM PORTSMOUTH ENGLAND ,HILARIOUS FLICK IT WARMS MY HEART TO SEE IT AGAIN.
Best line...You agree, Sir, that I have a point? Indeed, it must be difficult to find a hat that fits it properly. Close second...thank God for small favors! Loved this movie since the day it came out. Thanks so much for letting me enjoy it again!
I remember when we were at the theater and that line was said everybody in their howled with laughter that was so funny oh my God and then whenever we had family members who came over and visited us if we played the movie for them we would have to explain to them what what we were laughing at why that was funny because they had no clue what Luis Obispo from Bakersfield meant because to them it was just a name it wasn't an actual city or town. Love the humor in this it's just so perfect lovely both The Alcalde actor the henchmen and Brenda Vaccaro and Lauren Hutton all perfect in their roles.
So happy to see this gem on youtube. I havent seen this since it used to be on tv. Highly understed comedy. I could not stop laughing back then. And i cant stop now.
19:56 - "My Dear Son, I do not call you by name because I do not know which of you two brothers will be the one to read this, but whoever does inherits the greatest gifts I possess. The sword with which to fight injustice; this mask with which to deceive tyranny; and this hat which needs a reblocking. Wear them with honor for in time of need it is the destiny of the Vega men to become Zorro."
This film is an absolute treasure and my life is better for it. George Hamilton is pitch perfect in both roles and, although I’ve seen it countless times, I still laugh hard upon subsequent viewings. The rest of the cast is also outstanding as well. Certainly a movie no one would make today, but viewers should just enjoy it for what it is, a very over the top comedy that pays respect to its source material and can laugh at itself. This came out during the Summer of 1981, which was probably one of the very best summer of movies ever. And this one takes its rightful place as a great addition to the excellent company it shared at that time. Please watch and just lose yourself in the entertainment this movie is meant to be.
I saw this in the theater! I was 11 years old. Of course I didn’t understand a lot of the “gay theme”but when I watch it now, I just love it! Fantastic movie.
This is was designed as being in the vein of a Mel Brooks production. Lots of movies have tried their hand at meeting the high bar set by Mel & Co. Few, very few are up to snuff. Zorro the Gay Blade is inarguably up to snuff. I howl through this whole movie as I do with Young Frankenstein. Top shelf.
I had the insight to purchase this movie on VHS back in the '80s after seeing it several times on HBO. It wasn't cheap: about $75.00 US. Watched it over and over again, long after it was no longer available on TV. I no longer have a VCR to play it on, so it was a great surprise to see it here. Thank you!
0:24 - "In the late part of the eighteenth century, the peasants of old California were oppressed by tyrannical landowners. To protect the poor and downtrodden people, there emerged a mysterious swordsman who pledged his life in the service of justice. To the people, he was a great hero who would live forever in their hearts. To the landowners, however, he was a real pain in the ass. He was known only as Zorro."
I am a very big fan of mr Hamilton artistry I cried seen this movie the life we had, all your movies I had seen, and the enjoyment it brought me, mr Hamilton, thank you!! I got to go, went to you cigar and bar! In every hills, i saw you and you are gorgeous I had a great time! Again thank you!
Man! I haven't seen this film in years! I think the last time I saw this was when I was a kid & not too long after it 1st came out! To show you how long ago that was! Glad I happened to stumble onto this film after all these years! I never watched the black & white or old Disney versions of Zorro, but if they had the same theme song, I won't look at Goonies the same ever again! It's the same theme that is used when Sloth saves the gang on the pirate ship. Never picked up on that reference before. I just thought it was a song from a Eyro Flynn film. Extremely enjoyed this! 🙏
